In Firefox on my PC, I signed in to PSN and was prompted to verify by e-mail, but I don't think it's related though I don't think I've ever needed to before, so it is probably just a coincidence.
Then, in Account Settings > Security > Device Setup Password > Generate or Manage Device Setup Passwords it says the following
Then, in Account Settings > Security > Device Setup Password > Generate or Manage Device Setup Passwords it says the following
It appears that the device password it generates for you is used instead of the password you set up yourself. This is similar to what MS did on the 360; implementing a device password to substitute the regular one. I just wonder why, as in what is the point, especially now?If prompted on your PS3, PS Vita, PSP or mobile device, you'll need to generate a device setup password. Once you enter this password, you'll be able to sign in using your sign-in ID and account password.
You can revoke the device setup password at any time.
