I was looking through Custom Firmware Tools > Service Tools > Advanced Service Tools and there is Check and Toggle 8th SPE.
How do i know my 8th SPE is activated apart from that check thingy?

Enabling the 8th SPE is pointless unless you install OtherOS. No game would ever use it because it's impossible to activate on OFW, and AFAIK no homebrew uses it either because (a) that would make it incompatible with HEN and (b) it would not run on units with a defective 8th SPU (that's the reason it's deactivated to begin with). It's theoretically possible for homebrew to check if it's enabled and use it (e.g. to increase performance) but I don't think any homebrew app does. To begin with, I'm not even sure any homebrew takes full advantage of the 6 SPUs normally available to games.
Anyway as I said it's only useful if you install Linux and do some heavy computation. Mind though that you will need to write code specifically for the SPUs to use - that's what made the PS3 a nightmare to code for to begin with. If you just recompile existing Linux programs they'll run only on the PPU, which is anything but powerful.
 
I assume if I have 4.8 CEX Rebug I can just install this straight from usb.
Also I assume sMan will still work? Or should I go webman and gunnerZ?

1: Yes. Just update either through the XMB update menu or through recovery mode(i did it through XMB).
2- i don't know, but it should work given that nothing groundbreaking is changed in 4.90.

It should be the first icon under Network column. It looks like this:

If you don't have it, reinstall the CFW. It is possible that it didn't get installed or that it was replaced with OFW or HFW.
 
Hi, i have 4.90 CFW that was working well. Can't remember what happened, i was downloading contents from ps store, shutdown, and now packages does not work anymore with error 8001003A. Every time i switch off the console it ask me to finish download before shutdown (with the checkbox). Need help...

From which store did you download the contents?.
 
Well, in that case there are two things you can try:

  1. Rebuild the database.
  2. Delete folder in /dev_hdd0/plugins/CFW.
  3. Enable dev_blind from WebMAN MOD and reinstall the content from the store.
Bear in mind that error 8001003A is mostly related with stuff that requires changes in dev_flash. Don't know why the official PS Store would need to work there.

Enabling dev_blind seems to be ok, i was able to download a game and to open managunz. More tests next week, thanks.
 
Hello, I have had problems with my ps3 specifically only when using cfw, it turns out that when playing some titles it turns off and leaves the red button of ignition flashing, I wonder if anyone has a solution? sorry for my bad English, I speak Spanish

Do you have webMAN MOD installed? If so then you should definitely use it to check the CPU and GPU temperature (the easiest way would be to just point a web browser at your PS3's IP address). If either exceeds 70 degrees you need to have it serviced ASAP.
 
Previously I took it to the technician for the problem and they changed the graphics chip and some other components that I don't remember but they had specified me, I managed to solve the problem, basically when I activated the manual speed of the console fan it turned off, I opted for the option syscon and it stopped turning off, I would still like to know if anyone knows why it happens, if it could be the fan system, any shorts?
