4.93 EVILNAT (Cobra 8.5)

PS3 4.93 Evilnat w/ Cobra v8.5 - (CEX/PEX/D-PEX) 4.93

Hope you all are doing well! For those who've been testing the latest BETA build extensitvely, I was just curious if you could share your input about your experiences with the CBOMB fix that I'm assuming will be avaialbe in the final verison of the CFW. (In my case I'll be using 4.91 CEX when it releases). Once the final version has been installed, how would I go about enabling this fix? Not too long ago, I started getting the prompt to enter in the date everytime I boot up my console after it has shut off completely (beyond its stand-by phase).

Is it just a matter of enabling it in the CFW tools?

Hi, i have a dead CBOMB and before Beta 2, when i try to set the date and hour up via internet, it give me the famous error 8001050f. But with Beta 2 and 3, when i fix the CBOMB issue in the settings and go to set the time via internet, it sync perfectly and even when i restart or turn off the console, i no longer need to set the time up. But sometimes when the console is off for a long time, it ask to set the date upon turning it on.

I have not tested this myself, CMOS still gravy here, but it appears that way yes. Evilnat's explanation on how it works here:
"Patches RTC with static value (default) or current updated PS3 system date. Useful for PS3 with dead CMOS battery"

and here:

For example, if you turn on the PS3 and it asks you to set the initial date and time, if you enter a very old date xai will put the date and time 11/23/2023 11:00:00 (static, the date that I fixed CBOMB). This date and time are patched in vsh for trophies. Instead of leaving an empty value (with '-') when unlocking trophies, it will also put this date Otherwise if they are later than this date, xai will use it to fix CBOMB

I would enable it and see if it pulls from VSH and doesn't continue to prompt you on next reboot. Good luck!

Hello, I have noticed that ff13-3 jerking the cutscenes, I have an SSHD and tried it over CD and there it did not jerky.

So are you using a Linux server, or did you mean SHDD/SSD? If the latter, I would take a peek over at Berion's thread here:
https://www.psx-place.com/threads/guide-ssd-for-playstation-3.42499/

As far as I know, there are several read write speed limitations regarding SSD's for PS3, and a speed too fast can cause heating and even damage to the PS3. An HDD is recommended, or an SHDD per developer Berion's post linked above. As for Linux servers, I would have to defer you to someone with more expertise than I. I hope this helps!

Any ETA on a final CEX release yet? A bit OT so I might just start my own thread for it but I'm investigating potential correlation with any model of PS3 using NECs and them dying when trying to OC the RSX. Findings so far suggest that ANY PS3 prior to 21XX you should just avoid OCing the RSX as the NECs can't take it. Any info anyone provides (here, PM, or a new thread I might make later) particularly users with both machines with and without NECs running an OC RSX would be interesting to me.

Some additional thoughts:
  1. If you are using Webman Mod, try adjusting plugin memory usage by profiles to allocate more memory to PS3 games. I have noticed memory allocation seems to be running slightly higher on Beta3, at least while running some plugins.
  2. Try disabling plugins you are not utilizing, and see if problem with frame skips resolve.
  3. Check if you have any PKG games installed with larger PNG files and delete the cover, these are reportedly consuming more memory, in some instances, even without accessing them.

Hi, I think you're right, it didn't come back. I think they're right, it didn't jerky anymore, I put on min 320kb and the sequences stayed nicely fluid, thank you very much, it seemed to be Webman Mod. You are good :)

Glad it worked out! Definitely not faulting anyone here, just glad we can keep relevant reports of our experiences coming down the pipes for developers and users alike to have ample feedback and enable them to iron out the last few bugs as they finalize this awesomeness!! Huge thanks to all those involved, and please keep up the great work @aldostools @Evilnat @Berion Team Cobra & Team Rebug, hats off to you all as this has become my daily driver.

I'm really sorry. I talked nonsense, I'm really sorry, unfortunately it hangs again apparently I was only lucky, I think it's the hard drive.

Hey, no harm no foul, this is what BETA testing is all about :encouragement: and unfortunately, Hardware is always a sneaky variable that can throw us for some misconceptions. Well please do let us know if able to test with a new HDD and whether you are yielding similar or improved results and I appreciate your feedback!

Thank you for your contributions on here and your insights - really apprecaite it. I look forward to giving that a try once the full versoin is live. I just wasn't sure how it's enabled since I'm still on 4.90. It seems like it's just toggled on based on what I gather.

My only hope is that it'll work even after plugging my PS3 out of the main outlet and then back in. When it's powered on and off while on standby, with the red indicator light on, I'm not asked to input the date and time again.

Here's hoping!

This feature does not work I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong or this is a issue I keep getting a air error message for this Spoof MAC: Spoofs MAC in LV1 with a valid MAC from "/dev_usb/MAC.txt

Please correct me if I am wrong fellow forum-goers, but I do believe this has to be a genuine MAC from an otherwise dead or alternate console, previously registered on PSN, in order to work... While it can be done with a plugin or dedicated tool i.e. Sen enabler, Webman, or natively with Cobra tools, I am unsure of the best/safest method that is up to date with current firmware and Sony identity heuristics. Check this thread out, may be worth a shot. It is a bit older, has some great info from developer of Ps3xploit tools for both IDPS and MAC.

@bguerville any recommendations for current firmware?

MAC is irrelevant afaik. It's just a hardware address used to uniquely identify your console / PC / phone / whatever on the local network. It's not supposed to be known on the Internet, since routers don't forward the Ethernet header, which contains it. The only way your MAC could be known to someone outside your LAN is if software directly looks it up and sends it to a remote server, which is something that some PC games sometimes do, lacking any better options, but the PS3 has the IDPS, making the MAC identification unnecessary.

Hi, I have my Samsung Evo 870 built in (SSD) and it seems to have fixed the problem, I also noticed that I have faster loading times in any case. I am glad and thank you for your support.:)
