4.93 EVILNAT (Cobra 8.5)

PS3 4.93 Evilnat w/ Cobra v8.5 - (CEX/PEX/D-PEX) 4.93

2. SSDs are not compatible with the PS3, and drives over 1TB have compatibility issues.

Yes, SATA SDDs ARE compatible, you are wrong. I've been using it for years.
About 1TB limits I don't know for sure, someone with more knowledge could answer that more properly. I am using a 480GB XrayDisk SATA SSD.

I think he means there are more misses than hits with SSD, so it's not worth trying them. Aside from less heat, there's no real benefit to using one. Also, without trim, I think the PS3 lowers the lifespan of an SSD.

1. No need to install HEN for CFW. You must use BgToolset first.

About the SSD is compatible, i use a A400 with 960GB but i will buy one with 1TB space.

If you permit me, let me clarify my first question i want to install CFW over HEN because i don't want to erase the SSD itself. I have a lot of games, the PS3 is a CECH 2501B model, Slim version. And the CFW is way better than HEN. Thx for the reply.

Will there a final version released before next ofw update in feb or mar 2025?
Probably never. Evilnat's pretty much switched to agile development at this point. All open betas are suitable for daily use, Evilnat does not release them before he tests for major breaks. Every time he completes work on a feature, even a small one, a new beta is released. It's just gradual updates. There are bugfixes of course, but nothing too serious. If anything, it's actually better now that you don't have to wait long for fixes.
The final 4.91 build will probably be when Sony releases 4.92.

If a technique exist to do that, I think it's not a good idea to install a CFW over a HEN because you will meet issues because these 2 methods are very different.

I highly recommend to backup your useful data from your SSD to an another storage, wipe it and make it completely blank (without partitions table), install the CFW from scratch and restore the previously saved data.

Sure, it's long and tedious, you will spend 1 or 2 days to do this operation properly but you won't spend several days trying to resolve hard compatibility issues with HEN.
Also that ensure you have a clean system.

there will probably always be bugs, but evilnat has been diligent about fixing them. in fact, sony still has bugs in their software, even with access to the source code. sony released 10.20 for the ps5 just today, which probably fixed exploits, but it may have fixed actual bugs. they do release betas for new features though, which you get access to through a psn code, if you're selected.

One success case doesn't mean 100% compatibility. Berion has collected more information on this subject than anyone, with clear conclusions: https://www.psx-place.com/threads/guide-ssd-for-playstation-3.42499/

It doesn't matter which brand of SSD you are using, the PS3 simply can't handle that kind of technology and sooner or later it'll bring issues.

Regarding losing data, you won't. BgToolset only applies a patch to the flash memory. No changes are made to the HDD.

Sure amigo, I will contact you in a few hours ;)

QA Flag button combo only works on CEX mode, your PS3 must be CEX to do it, if you are on DEX you will be unable to do it

Ohhhh I know, I forgot to compile ps2gxemu_stage2.bin and ps2hwemu_stage2.bin on linux, maybe that is causing that issue because my Windows toolchain breaks them

EDIT: MEGA folder updated. I have updated the payloads, if you could check that PS2 discs work now I would appreciate it

Hi @Evilnat I am on the latest 4.91.2 Beta 10 CFW on CECHA00, ps2 physical discs are not working at all. Black screen, the same with ripped ps2 games. Ps1 discs are running fine. I've been looking all over and can't find any solution. Any ideas what might be the problem? Or does anyone else have any suggestions?? Please

@Berion
@GuilloteTesla
Ok, apreciate the answer, them i will buy a HDD of 1TB. Any sugestions of a HDD to purshase?
I was looking at some models i live in Brazil, so any hdd of 1TB should do the job?
Below are some models that i was looking for:
Seagate Barracuda St1000lm048

Western Digital WD10JPVX

ST1000DM048

Mq01abd100 1tb

The last one is SATA II on my understanding the sata 2 is better because doens't force the HDD too much because the interface on the PS3 unfortunelly is SATA I. All of the HDD's above are 1TB and 5400RPM.

Thx in advance.

It might be that your EE/GS chip is broken.
