PS3 CEX vs DEX

Check release notes at rebug.me it will guide you through the easy process that is done through the Rebug Toolbox in regards to switching to CEX / DEX on REBUG REX (make sure you check a REX release notes and not a LITE version)

Will do.

Still not sure about the pros and cons of each, tho.
If your not a developer, DEX is probably not what you want. We're able to get at or near 100% game compatibility through BDEMU/dummy BDEMU, but now that we have Cobra it is completely unnecessary.

I use DEX since 3.55
DEX + mamba or cobra same to CEX,I select mamba
I use ProDG play game from PC very convenient

The disadvantage of DEX is the low selectivity of CFW

sorry my engish

I'm starting to understand a bit more I think.

But if my research is correct, we can only do rtm on DEX..? Using mods on CEX isn't as successful, right? I have been using Artemis successfully but texture mods and such needs to be DEX, or am I wrong?

Is Cex & Dex something that has something to do with the console model? I am new so I have no idea what Cex & Dex are for.

Yes and no.

There exist CEX, DEX and SEX, I believe.

Cex is retail, DEX is developer and SEX is kiosk(?).

But on Rebug you can convert a CEX to DEX.

If you want to mod for real, you usually need dex and RTM is only possible on there, although i really dont recommend RTM tools, as they are most likely going to steal your Cid or even xRegistry, which is rally bad. You can mod games on cex too, but there are less awesome ones (and not that many) and you can use cex mods on dex anyways. DEX was originally thought for devs, who are developing their own homebrew, but very few people are still using it for that. cex is more the one thought for the enduser, who doesnt know all that much about cfw, because you can mess up your dex really bad if you dont know what you are doing. Myself, i recently bought a FAT and first installed rex on it, originally thinking i wouldnt need to convert, but since i really enjoy modding, i converted it to dex. also i have a Superslim with han too, but since i now have a cfw im not playing with that one really that much anymore.

Hi @Spawn ,

I quoted from SE7 Forum first thread.

You may be asking yourself, what does all of this mean? Are they codes in a certain way? What do they do? How are they helpful to me? I can answer all of this in simple ways, but I'd rather break it down.

OFW
OFW stands for official firmware. Official firmware is put out by Sony themselves, and that's what you update to when you are prompted to update in order to play SEN. OFW can be modded, which then turns to MFW, or CFW.

CFW
CFW stands for custom firmware. Most of the time you see a CFW, especially for newer firmwares above 3.55, they are a spoof. A spoof adds access to SEN when your console is on a lower firmware, such as 3.55, it "tricks" your system into thinking it is on a higher firmware to access SEN. If you hear people claiming there is a new CFW for SEN, they are lying. Jailbreaking cannot be applied above 3.55.

MFW
MFW stands for modded firmware. Modded firmware is in a sense the same as CFW, yet it has less features. MFW can also potentially harm Playstation's with a functioning disk drive, so it's just best advised to stay away from them.

DEX
Here's where it gets good. DEX stands for developer/debug firmware. This is what developers use to develop new apps, new games, and even new features. Alas, a setback is that DEX firmware does not allow SEN access. It disables it.

CEX
CEX simply means retail. When you hear CEX to DEX, that means retail to developer. It also is the same as CFW, just a different name.

SEX
SEX is what a shop would have on display. Nothing is really useful with it, just to try games on, and to see features. This is what all of those Demo firmwares are all about, such as the 4.21 exploit made by GlitchyJoey. You can't install anything with it, it's basically just for looks.

Rebug
Rebug is a spoof of some sorts, and adds a bunch of new features. There's:
  • SEN store previews
  • Package manager
  • Trophy unlocker
  • Rebug toolbox
  • Rebug mode

YouTube won't show up, they have has been removed.

Well, I never use PSN on my cfw, I have an OFW for that. However I am highly interested in missing some of my games, hence why I was considering converting to Dex..

Since I have no need for it to be connected to the internet, rtm tools stealing my info is of no concern... Oh, yeah, the I'd and such is banned since long ago anyways, so happy go lucky if they steal it. ;)

So bottom line is that I'm aiming for modding games, or at least using existing mods for them, and if I understand correctly I need to be on Dex to be able to use more than just a teaspoon of them..?

And what does DECR/DECH stand for? :)

no idea. one is a test unit; the other is a reference tool. either one or both have more power than the ps3. for example, double the ram or at least available ram for the game OS. both the 360 and the ps3 have the same amount of ram, but the ps3 has less available ram to use, perhaps due to the needs of the operation system itself. I know the operating system of the ps3 requires 3 times as much ram (around 90-something MBs iirc). that's a pretty big chunk lol

So basically, a DECR/DECH would perform better?
A bit more bang for the $, so to speak. ;)
A DECH is a Debug Station.
Basically the same hardware as retail units with a couple of minor differences.

A DECR unit is not a prototype per se although some models may use prototype components, it is called a Reference Tool & sports additional RAM among other things.

You can check the differences in hardware on psdevwiki. Start here & browse.. http://www.psdevwiki.com/ps3/DECR-1000
Or use this DEX features comparison chart:
