CFW 4.89.3 Evilnat Cobra (8.4) (CEX/DEX/PEX)

PS3 CFW 4.89.3 Evilnat Cobra (8.4) (CEX/DEX/PEX) -

Make sure you don't have PLAYSTATION 3 gameboot, Ultimate Toolbox or something that modifies flash files because it breaks the XMB layout

Install the xai updater PKG from my repository and it will be "fixed":
https://github.com/Evilnat/xai_plugin/raw/latest_release/xai_updater_cex.pkg

If not reinstall the CFW from Recovery Menu and check again if those strings are in the middle of the screen

Actually this screenshot has been taken after the xai_updater_cex.pkg has been installed.

Probably I'll try the 2nd option and reinstall the CFW..Do I've to install the xai_updater_cex.pkg (and run it) after reinstalling the CFW again?

If you reinstall the CFW you don't need to use the updater because the CFW already has the update

Can you tell me if you installed something that modifies the XMB or gameboot?

I didn't install any xmb or gamboot modifications.

One more thing which I've noticed (but maybe that supposed to be like this): the 'Cobra tools -> Create licence' option keep asking me to insert an USB device, despite on HDD0 there is an 'exdata' folder with .rap files. Or would the 'X:\exdata' in the description refer to only the USB drive?

Cobra only search RAP files in folder X:\exdata from an USB device atm

Ok, no problem.

Reinstalling the cfw now..will report back with the results. Could reinstalling the cfw also fix the non starting PS2 Classics problem (even though the system reported the correct target ID)?

I think it is possible, I tried some PS2 classics a few hours ago several times in a row with various games and they have worked without problem

EDIT: I checked it with a clean installation and all is fine

So the problems so far are:

- Can't be installed over 3.55, reported by many users
- Check clock speeds doesn't work for some users. (Maybe the code can be optimized? fps counter by @RouletteBoy always find it and quick.
- LibCrypt problem reported by @L2000 (Dino Crisis works on Mamba and not on Cobra)
- PS2 Playback on BC consoles with SSD
-- Stutters on some games (two guys on twitter, but i doubt it)

I will check all of them, btw can you tell me what is LibCrypt and what it does? Is it a protection system?

Yeap, LibCrypt, a copy protection system in some PS1 games to prevent piracy and is widely used by over 100 game titles, @aldostools added the code to bypass it with the use of LSD files in MAMBA 8.4 and submitted a PR to your cobra 8.4 (already merged), they must be in /dev_hdd0/tmp/lsd

I made a pkg for it here with the files from @aldostools repository

EDIT: i fixed the link

Well.. I've had a 50% success rate:

+ PS2 Classics are running fine after the CFW reinstall

- sadly the update notification's position hasn't been fixed

IIRC its a 4.89 issue, i can't confirm it now, but i had this before not on Nat's fw but i don't remember if the layout fix was applied or not or if i was messing with the files.

If it is working in MAMBA and not in COBRA maybe there is something wrong with my payload, I will check it. Thank so much mate ;)

I think there must be something on your PS3 that is changing the XMB layout, I made a clean installation of CFW CEX and it is working fine for me.

Can you disable webMAN MOD and any PS3 theme you have enabled and reboot the PS3? Do you have any plugin enabled?

Can you provide more details? are you finding the update from system storage (debug system update) or from USB devices?

It's strage you said it was fixed and after that is not, it's the same XMB option? or do you installed any other pkg after the CFW reinstall?

do you have any webMAN script set? (boot_init.txt, onxmb.bat and etc) that can be installing the layout files?

You posted two screenshots with a p3t theme applied and the other without, can you check if the theme is affecting it?

I only have webman mod installed that can modify the xmb and the only plugin is the webmanftp (which is default afaik)..in worst case scenario I'll make a full cleanup (meaning reset the whole console)

If You mean that screenshot which said that after clean install it was ok and then a screenshot that was Evilnat's post.

I was just checking update for a game, and then I've come across this issue.

After the fresh CFW install the result was the same (game update notification misaligned on the screen)
The CFW update has been done by an USB stick.
Also I've no scripts anything. The theme that You're referring to is the Guacamelee theme which is an official store theme and been using it for a while now and haven't had any issues regarding this.

Yes. LibCrypt is mainly a PS1 protection on PAL games that relies on custom subchannel data of CD.

LibCrypt protection is bypassed in storage_ext.c. It reads the custom subchannel data from external SBI/LSD files stored in /dev_hdd0/tmp/sbi or /dev_hdd0/tmp/lsd

Some LibCrypt games still cannot be bypassed due the ps1 emulator recalculates internally the subq CRC, replacing the custom subchannel data.

I remember some people reporting that the game update layout is not fixed even after aplying sandunga's fix ($0ny's fault).

I'll make a Clean install here to check It too

Also the custom RCO's from Ultimate Toolbox still have a wrong layout on Evilnat 4.89.3.

I can confirm that it is working fine with a clean installation, someone on twitter told me the same issue and he had installed PS3 Gameboot, re-installed the CFW and it worked again

@Evilnat First of all, thanks for all hard work.

I have just installed CFW Evilnat 4.89.3 Cobra 8.4 [CEX], everything works great.

Quick question, do I have to install xai_updater_cex.pkg or is it already installed with the CFW?
