PS3 Compatibility List - PS2 on PS3

1. try another iso of the same game
2. try to load a config by installing Managunz and run the game from there

If 1 or 2 doesn't work, the game doesn't work. There's nowhere near 100% compatibility and never will be.

This is the compatibility list, you should bookmark it. According to this Dynasty Warriors 5 works. I don't know if that's the same game or not, but if not it's not on the compatiblity list so no one has added it.

I just downloaded Managunz and used the CONFIG settings from Dynasty Warriors 3 and it worked. Boots up and plays perfectly.
Thanks for your help - I haven't been around the scene for about 5 years so currently trying to catch up.

Sorry for the double-post. Couldn't see an edit option.

I know I'm being a pain here but after getting DW5: XL to work with MagnaGunz it's now stopped working and gives me the three beeps and shuts down again.

I can't work out why, the only thing I'd done with the PS3 between it working and it not was installing Movian. Can't see why that would interfere with it but to be on the safe side I uninstalled that again. I've also tried deleting and recreating the CONFIG file, deleting the PS2 virtual memory card, deleting and reinstalling MagnaGunz, deleting and re-transferring the ISO file, stopping plugins running and i've reinstalled Rebug.

Can anyone think of anything that might be causing it to not work after it has been working fine? Thanks in advance.

It's most likely just not fully compatible then where you can play the game from beginning to end. You can try another ISO maybe even try a different region of the game, only thing you can do now. There's not 100% compatibility there's closer to 50%. it's an emulator.

That'd be my thoughts if the game started and then crashed but that has gone from loading up and playing perfectly to crashing before it even gives the PS2 logo.

Are you having problems with other PS2 games? Where I live it's 105 degrees and your PS3 could just be shutting off because of the heat also PS2 games stress the PS3 more than PS3 games. (sounds crazy but true) It happened to me, i had to turn on fan in sman (you can also do this in Webman I prefer sman)

If it's not cool in the room of your PS3 turn down the temperature or use a box fan directly behind the console and try again. Or perhaps even if it's cool your PS3 could have a heating problem. You could test other PS2 games and see if it shuts off if so you know it's the PS3.

Even if you come back and say "it's only this one game" I had that problem with King of Fighters Maximum Impact 2 it would turn off my PS3 within 5 minutes while other games were fine. But most likely it's just an intense game and your PS3 is not cool enough.

It seems to work if I load the game first through webman and then through MagnaGunz. I don't know why that'd make a difference but apparently it does.

Check your temps via webman. One of my ps3s would do the 3 beeps and shut down after a minute or two due to the cell processor reaching 85C (or around that). Summer is pretty brutal for the ps3. Just open up the playstation button menu on your ps2 game and report the temps you see in the top left corner (both cell and rsx).

I experience that ps3 disconnects and returns to xmb after loading ps2 games with config files by webman. It often happens nowadays.

I know, many may not be interested in the game, but I've made some interesting findings with SSX (2000).

The part where it freezes part way downhill, can be skipped with the X button.
The race begins to start without problems.

I disabled vibration and the sound in the game settings and have been able to complete one race fully
It started to freeze when I wanted to save the race in the end.
.
The other times it freezed in the game when you crash or fall in the game. Sometimes just in the race.

Does somebody know why it's occasionally freezing?

That's interesting. Maybe it is an issue with sound?

Yes, might be possible. I've tried it now a couple times, but the game freezes more often right now, even though the sound is disabled.

Well, at least you can get past the freezing screen part way downhill and drive some seconds before it freezes onroad.

Melty Blood: Actress Again (SLPM-55184)
Code:
3D 00 00 00 57 44 00 00 48 00 00 00 03 00 00 00
90 D0 03 00 00 00 00 00
Fixes the freeze on the initial screen (and other freezes?). VERY little testing, so take this with a grain of salt for now...just sharing.

Game just freeze and music play, or music/sounds stops, and/or loops?

Music also stops playing and freezes completly.

I'll give it a shot. Thanks!

Didn't mean to confuse you, but this config is for Melty Blood and not SSX. I unfortunately do not have that game to test.

I managed to figure out that one of the effects is to blame for the Melty Blood freeze. I managed to disable *all* transitions/effects on the main menu/intro screen where the freeze happens and it fixed 100%, but I'm gonna dig deeper to see exactly what is the cause of it and disable that one. But right now it is working without the vsync delay.

Ok, I thought that it was meant for the SSX game. :D

Someone posted SSX on the compatibility list (unless it was you?) and said the same thing, no mention of a config to fix it so perhaps there's no fix right now.

SSXUnplayableUnplayable?Race starts, then emulation always freezes part way downhill.

Yes, I also had the same freeze at the beginning, but If you press the X button fast enough you can skip the freeze and I somehow managed to finish one race with the ingame sound turned off.

I'm curious why it worked out and maybe someone knows how to fix it? Because the game works flawlessly before it freezes.

To be honest, i dont understand this
You mean to press X repeatedly while playing normally, in a video sequence, or what ?

The race starts with a video sequence. That video sequence runs 2-3 seconds, before it freezes the game. If you press X immediately, when the video sequence starts, you can skip the sequence and bypass the freeze and begin with the race.

However the game freezes after some seconds when you're in the race.

Hope I made it understandable. :D
