PS3 Compatibility List - PS2 on PS3

One there is a HUGE difference between ripping and dumping a game. Ripping is perfectly safe 100% of the time so long as you abide by the LBA. If you just go and rip out a dummy file and don't relink the files and correct the LBA the system is still looking for the dummy file as it is still in the LBA. Ripping the file is not enough you have to redirect the LBA so the system doesn't look for the dummy file and it's just fine.

As stated ripping is usually for HDD/USB loading to save space on a disc the dummy file actually helps as the further the data is on the outer portion of the disc the quicker the laser can read it as it doesn't have to seek the data as much as the further out on the disc the less the laser has to move decreasing time.

This was also common in the first days of PS2 piracy as it turned a DVD into a CD as DVD burners and disc were costly. So dummy files were ripped or video or audio could have been ripped or downsampled to fit on a CDR or even make a DVD9 game like God of War 1/2 fit on a DVD5 as softmods like free Mc boot didn't work with DVD DL disc or DVD DL disc and burners were costly and only worked with a modchip unless the disc was "flattened" to only one layer without a layer break.

And yes Cobra doesn't work with CD due to the mode type. Once going from a Mode2 BIN/CUE to a standard compliant DVD UDF file system it works just fine for NON-BC models as they were not designed to read PS2 CD games as Classics are in DVD compliant images. This isn't true for BC model PS3's as they have the emotion engine.

Edit: I have question to Joonie or any one that have some knowledge about cobra source. Why cd iso format not working on cobra? Is because image mode are not mode2, or something with media checks? Or maybe cobra patches for ISO are coded to add "padding bytes, limg, etc" (that how is work, right?) only for 2048 sectors? Question is only for better understand what is the problem with cd's. Maybe is way to make it work. If not, i just wanna know why.

Huh? I have couple CD rips of PS2 games working on my CECHE01, What cobra usb dev did was to add support on CDDA track support on PS2netemu which is hardly ever needed.

Wait what? I have never ran into a single PS2 game with CDDA, do you know of any? I have a few PS1 titles with it like MK Trilogy. Not saying it isn't true just never seen it on a PS2 title.

I have CD Rips but none of them have CDDA track..

I never tested enough cobra emu i just asking because atreyu187 write that cds not work. I only know that they work as classics, that's why i think is cobra emu problem.

Thanks for the info.:(

Yea the whole whopping two I have that are CD didn't work ripped that way but converted to DVD worked just fine. Dunno joonie is the expert around here this is my experience with them.

Fifa Street and Fifa Street 2 (Both NTSC/PAL), works great in ISO and PS2Classics.

Im having a slight framerate issue on GTA:LCS on ISO.

all tony hawks game past the 3rd don't work in PS2Classics aswell.

I have a bunch of PS2 games to try, gonna post my results tomorrow.

Is also official classic version problem. https://support.rockstargames.com/h...-Liberty-City-Stories-as-a-PS2-Classic-on-PSN Rockstar lying here.. Is old problem and probably nobody from $ony or Rockstar gonna try to fix it. They already got our money so no reason to patch this..

I thought it was just an ISO-only problem. Thanks for the link :p

More ISO's tested, working flawless:

Castlevania: Lament of Innocence
Bully (edit: i was going to try this as ISO until i saw the 1st post :p)
Soul Calibur II
Naruto: Ultimate Ninja
DBZ: Budokai Tenkaichi 2 - 3

I still need to rip the rest of my PS2 games :(

Iso or Classic? I tested this game in NTSC-U version and working good as Classic. But playing 4-5 hours only.

CFW 4.46 Habib/Cobra ISO NTSC-U.. i guess after you have all characters on first town/dungeon you get random battle then stuck/freeze. (5+ hours of gameplay i guess)

sometimes on dialogue it freeze

does firmware affect ps2 game compatibility?

Is possible, sony still doing some small changes in ps2netemu. But i think more impact on compatibility have hack on this emu done by cobra dev(s). That is why this game can work on normal emu as classic, but as im said before i played 4-5 hours and if i good remember i don't reach that moment in game. BTW. That was on some 4.46 (not sure, i'm think it was rogero cfw) non cobra.

I can confirm that these PS2 games are working on PS3 CFW (CECH2104A nonBC) tested by my self... (on 4.65.2 Rebug Rex Cobra + Rebug ISO launcher)

- Bloody Roar 3 EU version (ISO) work fine in battle (with some little glitches/flickers if ýou press Start)

- Dirge of Cerberus-Final Fantasy VII Eu Version ISO work

- Dragonball Z Budokai Tenkaichi 2 EU version ISO work

- Final Fantasy XII (EU) work ISO + PKG (PS2 Classics)

- Project Zero 3 EU version ISO work (Fatal Frame 3 in US)

I have much better results using Sony's emu for games especially the PSP emu as you have a little control over what you are doing g with commands and slight manipulation rather then just a pure ISO.
