PS3 Compatibility List - PS2 on PS3

how to use txt file?

The config.txt is only a text representation of the hex values of the config files that I added.
It is just informative... I used the config.txt to generate the binary files and update the database.

The online database is currently updated with the new configs. They are also installed when you update webMAN MOD 1.47.42 with the latest binaries or if you install the PS2CONFIG database package.

hi who knows why games like ico change 3 times hz from 50 to 60 and not start directly to 60hz from the beginning?

That's fine. Are you sure the cheats are not causing the random softlocks as well?

nope, the game does indeed softlock on fabruary area on the first 4 hours of the game, config do not fix it,i was not using cheats on the begenning, game runs like garbage with smoothing, disable it on ur next config.

i did not get any freeze after the first 4 hours, played for 55 hours till the end.

Softlocks on battles only seem to happen on february next to the castle for some reason

i have spent hours grinding in other area of the game and did not get other sotlock besides the one on the beginning of the game

Btw, in wiki someone mentioned it freezes when escaping from battles, and someone else mentioned it freezes after battles, i have not played, but to me it sounds the same problem

And it makes me remember to a problem that happened in "ni no kuni" (PS3) when loaded in ISO format from internal hdd, the game was freezing always after the battles... and someone debugged it and they realized it was happening because after finishing a battle the game needs to "reload" the enviroment with the music soundtrack... the speed of an ISO in internal HDD is faster than a real BD disc and this was causing the music to desync... so the music was crashing the game

It could be something similar @mrjaredbeta the problem is not in the battles... but in the process that happens after them, and could be caused by a desync

I have already ported the car selection slowdown to GT4 which is much better than the current config that only removes the shadows and does not touch the root cause of the slowdown. The ingame fixes for 3 may or may not work with GT4. It depends on if 4 uses the same graphical effect on specific tracks, and if the light effects are also a cause of slowdown on the night tracks. Otherwise, GT4 is fine without these speed fixes (current brightness/contrast fix does the job). These will definitely help the Concept games and most likely 4 Prologue if not 4 as well.

I still have no idea how to fix the FMVs, though. :(
The ingame fixes are the most important to achive the {{playable}} status, the other day when you published the previous patches for gran turismos i was reading the compatibility list in wiki and thinking in it and having that frustration feeling of "aiiich, is almost there" :D

What amazes me a bit is that you found the graphic effect responsible for the ingame slowdowns on some tracks, i hope is the same on GT4

@sandungas no,it is not the same issue ,ntsc version never freezes after escaping battles,it does softlock randomly after any attack on farebury area on the first game hours,it only happens on farebury area,i have spent hours grinding on other regions and did not get any other softlock.Really weird.

on rogue galaxy also always happened on the prison stage.it seems to happen on specefic points of the game

Ok, in the NTSC versions doesnt happens, but in the PAL version always freezes after escaping the battle ?
This detail is very important because the first step to find the problem is to figure a relliable way to trigger it
If it happens 100% of the times when escaping batles, thats a nice hint for mrjaredbeta and others to help in the research

I cant imagine how the date/time in the game could affect the battles but in this kind of games the "scene" of the batle changes with the "thematic" of the world map (and also the main soundtrack of the open world after the battle)
or maybe depends of the oponent ?, or his attacks, or your equipment ?... dunno, but if you find a 100% relliable way to trigger the bug it could help a lot

Btw, i mentioned ni no kuni because are directly related with dragon quest games, actually, ni no kuni was originally released for the nintendo DS (together with some dragon quests) and as far i know was using the same game engine... so it would not surprise me if the dragon quests does something unconventional (not recommended by the sony SDK) with the audio syncing because is the same people, or... different versions of the same game engine :D

i highly suspect that smoothing causes the softlock, game run really bad with it enabled, will test it again another time with it disabled.

Also do rogue galaxy and dq8 uses the same game engine?

Rogue galaxy is related too https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Level-5_(company)#List_of_games

Edit:
Btw, they made dark cloud and dark chronicles for PS2 too... so maybe some of the commands from the dark cloud config could work for dragon quest VIII and rogue galaxy ?

Chamber of artifcats runs at like 20fps, sky temple has framerate dips the whole time because of rain and it happens a little on other stages after enough blood is spilled and then using certain attacks and going certain areas on some stages. Edit: also using the melee weapons cause more lag because of the trail effects they make.

Forgot to mention I'm talking about deception and armageddon, not sure about deadly alliance. Falling cliffs stage also has lots of lag in some areas and sometimes it makes the inputs drop.

@Rafaelrios @sandungas Dark Cloud's official config uses a 0x09 patch (from gxemu) to disable character shadows and a 0x0F range to improve FPU accuracy (unknown what it is actually improving/fixing as of now). Rogue Galaxy's official config only uses command 0x46 (which is confirmed to not work) and a 0x0A patch to skip over the black and white cutscene filter. Well, the 0x0A patch can be easily ported to DQ8, but it would do nothing for the freezing issues. It would be good to know if these soft locks happen in gxemu as well.

We could at least remove the 0x46 command and disable the smoothing if that is what causes it:

Dragon Quest VIII (all regions)
Code:
3D 00 00 00 57 44 00 00 44 00 00 00
And a black and white cutscene fix could be added later.

When you said rogue galaxy patch using command 0x0A can be ported to DQ8... do you mean are using the same game engine, right ? (or similar functions where is applyed the patch)
In that case i guess it worths a try to see if the game engine from dark cloud (and dark chronicles) is the same too... because you could try to port the other patch from dark cloud to disable the character shadows (not sure if DQ8 have character shadows though)

@mrjaredbeta ur old dq8 config did improved performance didn't it?L2h improvemt was enabled wasn't ?at least it was when i opened netemu secret menu.

can u disable dq8 shadows as well? i think it greatly improve perfomance

ur od config didn't fix freeze but indeed improved perfomance with smoothing off.

@Rafaelrios I haven't tested the game on netemu before today, I was only basing the performance off of what you stated before.

I just found the function that handles shadows and it clears up the performance in the cutscenes with a lot of people present, but it breaks the immersion when the FMV cutscenes have shadows and ingame does not. Also, L2H improvement does not help any performance really. The game does not make heavy use of GS downloads, but it still does, so I included it anyway.

I attached the config to the post as I don't think it should be added to the database just yet. Do you have a save file close to scene that uses the black and white filter?

sorry i completed the game and only have save next to game ending, sorry

there is a black and white cutscene literally on the beginning of the game.

Weirdly enought on black white gameplay segment graphics are normal, only happens on cutscenes.

i was found on site, config for BMX XXX game!

Code:
3D 00 00 00 57 44 00 00 0A 00 00 00 01 00 00 00
10 86 10 00 09 00 00 45 09 00 00 10

Maybe @mrjaredbeta or some others can know what issue was FiXed by that config?
