PS3 CONSOLE SHUTS OFF (3 BEEPS AND RED BLINKING LIGHT) BUT ONLY WITH CERTAIN GAMES

Hello guys, I'm going mad right now, a couple of months ago I started getting the blinking red light shut off problem (mostly with PS2 games). I thought it was a problem with the HDD, I formatted it, downloaded RE 5 Gold Edition (before jailbreaking the console again) from my bought game collection just to test out if the console worked but it didn't even get to the title screen and it shut off.
I took my machine to a specialized technician and he did some work on the CPU by resoldering some contacts and also replaced the thermal paste, the problem kept happening, I completely replaced the HDD with an SSD and it still happens.
What boggles me is the fact that the shut offs only happen with PS2 games running from the internal drive, with RE 5 installed in the drive and Devil May Cry 4 also in the internal drive (any of the other digital games I've tried work fine)
Any game that runs from disk (even GTA V) or from a flash drive doesn't give me any problems.
The console doesn't even reach 65°C most of the time after the technician put his hands on it.

Anyone got any idea what it may be?

ADDENDUM: I just remembered that I tried to uninstall WebMAN Mod twice by deleting certain files, could I have deleted some crucial files that cause the issue?
Then again I installed the whole official firmware all over again after inserting the new SSD

PS2 emulator uses a considerable amount of resources and makes the system hotter than in PS3 mode.
Also while the PS2 emulator is running, webMAN MOD is unloaded from memory. So it is recommended that you set the PS2 fan speed in /setup.ps3 to 40% (or 50% if it is already in 40%).

That setting only works if you mount the PS2 game through webMAN MOD.

If you start a PS2 Classic launching it directly from XMB (or start a PS2 disc on a phat model), it is recommended to use SELECT+UP/DOWN to set the fan speed manually on XMB to set the fan speed manually to 40% or 50% before launch the game.

If you have CFW, I recommend that install Ultimate Toolbox and replace the default ps2_netemu with one of the custom versions included in the tool that show the CPU/RSX temperatures. That way you can monitor the system temperature while you are playing PS2 games. Unfortunately HEN users cannot install the modded ps2_netemu.

I am aware of the load of work the PS3 is put through while emulating, but as I said in my previous post, the main problem here is "loading stuff from the internal drive".

I have another question, is there a way to completely reinstall the PS3 Os? I'm afraid I may have accidentally deleted some important files from the PS3's internal flash memory, so I would like to make a completely clean install of the whole system's os not just the part that sits in the drive.
DISCLAMER: I unfortunately lost my pre-jailbreak dump of the system so I'd like to known if I can find one somewhere, thank you.

It depends what you mean by "internal flash memory", the term can be ambiguous.

If you are talking about the contents of the /dev_flash partition on a nand/emmc console model, where the VSH & XMB files are located, reinstall the current firmware cfw pup file & the /dev_flash partition will be back to normal.
If you applied XMB customisations you may lose them & need to reinstall them.

I am not sure you understood what Aldo meant.
You associated the hdd with the crash situation but it does not automatically follow that the former causes the latter, appearances can be deceiving.
You have currently no idea what the temp might be when running a ps2 game as you cannot monitor it, the 3 beep shutdown is often caused by critical temp & as the fan speed cannot be adjusted during ps2 emulation, if the fan is not set to manual at a high enough speed, the temperature is likely to rise well above the temperatures you get with ps3 games when the fan adjusts to the dissipated heat in real time with more aggressive settings than the syscon originally uses & with the most demanding ps2 games, temps may even reach the critical shutdown temperature.

So he was suggesting to check the temps during ps2 emulation so you can confirm whether or not the console shuts down because of the temperature or not.
If so, you can take steps to increase the fan speed during ps2 emulation.
If not, you might want to investigate the kernel crash output & the syscon error log.

Note that SSDs are not officially supported, various types of glitches have been reported, I have experienced some myself especially with the recovery environment.

I tried reinstalling the cfw multiple times without success.

Also you are both concentrating too much on the PS2 side of things, I understood what Aldo said, and yes, I know how to control the fan speed, I also HAVE monitored the CPU and GPU temp during gameplay thanks to webman and it never exceeded 60°C(both while playing PS3 and PS2 games), I said that it happens with PS3 games as well, anything that runs from the internal drive, PS2 games HAVE to be put in the internal drive otherwise they won't be mounted.

The main problem is the PS3 crashes with certain games, the CPU contacts were resoldered and I changed the HDD I checked and the one I got is supported.

You think that you understood what I meant, but you didn't.
1. webMAN cannot monitor or control the temperature of PS2 games.

2. The temperatures on VSH (ps3, ps1, psp, etc.) are controlled by webMAN, so they are very different to the ones that you get on PS2.

3. You must replace ps2_netemu to be able to see the temperatures in PS2 games.

I recommend that you install the custom PS2 emulator with fan display:
https://store.brewology.com/ahomebrew.php?brewid=315

Or use one of the custom PS2 emulators with temperature monitor included in Ultimate Toolbox
https://store.brewology.com/ahomebrew.php?brewid=326

4. Let say your console is at 60°C in XMB, and webMAN dynamic fan control sets the fans to 30% because it is already cool. If you launch a PS2 Classic or mount a PS2 game with multiMAN or another backup manager, the VSH will be unloaded and webMAN too (therefore dynamic fan control is not longer working). The ps2 emulator will be started in 30% (even if you configured the PS2 fan speed to 50%) because you launched the game outside webMAN and it didn't change the last fan speed. The fan remains in the last fan speed that you had when you launched the PS2 game. The temperatures in the PS2 game will start rising to the point that will beep 3 times and turn off your console.

5. If you started a PS2ISO or a PS2 Classic (.BIN.ENC) via webMAN and the default 40% for PS2 mode is not enough, you will have the same result. The solution in this case is change the PS2 fan speed to 50% or higher.

6. I recommend to change the fan speed manually to 40% or 50% **before** start a PS2 game.
Use SELECT+UP / SELECT+DOWN to change the fan speed manually.

In summary: Your issue with these PS2 games seems to be that the fan is not cooling the system enough and it is shutting down to protect its internal components.

You can reinstall CFW a trillion of times and you will get the same result until you configure the fan settings properly.

Okay, evidently mentioning PS2 games was a mistake, I understand that you probably get questions like these 100 times a day but please let me explain again differently.

Right now my console is running OFW and whenever I launch RE 5 Gold Edition and Devil May Cry 4, which are all PS3 games (I'm also having issues with Batman: Arkham City it keeps freezing when Bruce is about to put his suit on in the beginning) the console shuts off.
Resident Evil 5 doesn't even have time to get to the title screen, the PS3 shuts off almost as soon as I launch it, Devil May Cry 4 allows me to play for a bit, and eventually shuts off as well.

This ALSO happened when I was running PS2 games, WITH manually controlled fan (I even tried to set it up to 70% speed), the PS3 was COOL to the TOUCH, but it still shut off, what's funny is that Silent Hill 2 (PS2), allows me to play for a bit before shutting off, while Resident Evil 5 (PS3) as I said before, doesn't even allow me to get to the title screen

This behaviour keeps happening, even while running OFW and ONLY playing PS3 games, NOT emulating ANYTHING.

I hope I made myself more clear this time, I evidently wasn't clear enough in the previous posts.

HDD games (especially ps2) cause shutdown but disc games do not...i would wonder if it is the PSU.

Definitively it isn't CFW or homebrew related, because it happens on OFW.

It could be caused by a corrupted installation, maybe bad sectors in the disk. Or a system hardware failure like Coro suggested.

You could try playing RE5 or DMC4 from ISO stored on USB to see if the system also shuts off. If it does, the system hardware issue would be practically confirmed.

PS2 games only play from internal HDD or from physical disc on b/c models. Therefore they can't be tested from USB.

Nec tokin caps need replacing on topside atleast for tantalums had this issue many times, and replacing the caps on topside has stopped the console throwing ylod symptoms when playing demanding ps3 games.

Edit.. Just read its only ps2 games forget what I wrote.

You could always try diagnosing via syscon. There's a thread dedicated to it in ps3 section. I would try to reinstall firmware, swap hard drive, then try psu swap. Without diagnosing via syscon it's really just a guessing game.

I tried to launch RE5 from USB and wouldn't you know it? The PS3 shut off, so I guess, as you guys said, it's hardware related

I'll try the diagnosis, I assume I can find the thread via the search function right?

It sounds like nec tokins to me. You can run the syscon diagnosis or just add a few tantalums in parallel with the necs. Then try smaller games and go up until the naugthy dog's.
