PS3 [DEV} PS3MFW Builder MOD

Hi again :onthego:

Is OtherOS coldboot patch working only up to certain firmware level?

I manually put it in and one another patch but this patch did not create effect i waited for like what Glevend reported on him.. should i include some other patches make it work correctly?

By his explanation can boot up to OtherOS++ bootloader directly via power button but it was a miss for me.

Maybe i am missing some?
hi there
tbh, I have not tried the coldboot patch so far, so I cannot tell you more about it. my first thought was, that this is only applies for NAND

well, it is a lot work, but sooner or later I have to revise all included patches myself

Installed the older Coldboot FW works fine on FAT NOR system... I thought maybe its wrapped around that OtherOS patch which is not made for so new FW version? Anyway maybe i stick to this FW version or so for now.

I see, so I definately have to revise the patch. I cannot promise anything here, but I want to clean up the builder this weekend and I also want to install RedRibbon again. btw, does anybody have a valid download link? I have lost all of my old data, cause of broken hdd

The iso download is also one of those sourceforge links unfortunately
ok, I have found new browser now, "UnChromium" :D
Maxthon has completely forbidden this and many other sites now, even my online banking site, lol. it started so nice, but got crap by now

I have to apologize, but this patch is completely wrong and never verified by me
what does the coldboot fix exactly do? does it load guestOS instead of gameOS instantly? as workaround you can do the recovery thing

it seems toolbox does have a similar patch for it, but it is said it will break OOS on NAND. will check it...

It seems been broken longer i checked already older ps3mfw-builders and compared that area what it modifies and it did change much so there is more for it required to work correctly on newer Rebugs in example if not completely wrong.

I know Recovery trick but not good enough for me (need toggle twice on off sometimes..). Now using older FW with this coldboot patch. And yes it loads Linux... or petitboot in this case directly by normal boot up process instead of xmb. No need rebug toolkit rumble to boot linux.

Much better if want use for linux just.

Did think too maybe take a look through IDA how it works in lv1.elf and what changed but thats below my interest level due time as can use older FW for now. Thanks anyway for reply!

P.S. Circled in my mind too that OtherOS++ patch for these older FW actually modifies the related thing for coldbooting too. Other difference i noticed on newer rebug that if i enabled some patch.. lets say GPU 4kb GART Memory patch through the toolkit.. but on next reboot its disabled again...

Anyway with patching manually it stays enabled and thats good.

I have looked at it, but the problem is, somehow exactly this section cannot be disassembled correctly. maybe graf's 3.15 dump has something to tell, but I haven't looked at it

afaik, if you shutdown guestOS, lv1 gets also rebooted, so active patches will get removed

edit
dunno what I have done differently there, but somehow I have a 4.21 database, where the section was disassembled correctly

another stupid thing, I have no spare usb drive, where I can install OOS atm and I don't want to install it internally

Hello psx-place friends. Is it easy for someone to post the patches needed to make a standard cfw, or even a cobra cfw, using the current mod version? the patches shown on a different tutorial from playerkp420 are for another version of this builder.

As far i remember MFW have a feature that allows to "load" and "save" a template with your patch selection
It was intended to share our custom firmware "flavours" with other people, i think thats exactly what you are asking for

And yeah, i think you are very right in requesting one of that templates containing only the patches that are considered stables and compatibles with firmware 4.88 CEX
I cant do it, but maybe someone have a list of them for private use, as said is just a matter of "saving" them as a external file and share it :encouragement:

I think that since Evilnat is the last cfw developer, and boy he did a great job, there has to be an easier solution if he wants to quit or move to something else. We can always use the official update, patch it as a standard cfw and use mamba. Easier to update even.

Is there a mfw builder to mod 4.89 firmware?
I dunno any GitHub repo for MFW builder that is updated for 4.89 which of course does not necessarily mean there isn't one.
In theory, the only thing that might be required (at least for certain features) is to update the keys, that should be all.
On GitHub,search for repos using a query like "ps3 mfw builder".
Get the latest copy from a repo updated recently and that supports 4.81+, haxxxen's repo should do the trick AFAIK.
https://github.com/haxxxen/ps3mfw-builder-0.2.1-mod
Go to the keys folder, duplicate the 4.88 (or earlier like 4.84) keys and rename/label them appropriately for 4.89.

Keep in mind that there's always a potential brick risk when messing with pup files through MFW builder, make sure you know what you are doing, use ONLY appropriate tasks and settings...

I am getting this message, any suggestions on how to fix it.

Anyone can help out on the patches needed for a standard cfw? Something like a template. It would be failsafe for anyone trying to build his own mfw. I asked for one before, but i still hope.

luckily this is not really needed, cause an official CFW release is done most times immediately. I remember how careless I once was acting with mfwbuilder, but without any secured hardware with flasher, I would not even think about it. anyways, I will look into it, but my main problem is this lv0tool, which I still cannot compile myself, what has stopped me from going further. @littlebalup , maybe you can help me here, so I'll try to fix source (for using with isorebuilder) and you compile for me?

well, staying original as possible, is not always the best choice (maybe even in life?). have learned now with a DECR MFW (btw, it is working great), using original dev_flash tar permissions is not feasible, cause of limitations. have to remake the whole tar creation and will set one permission set for all pkgs. also, it seems it wasn't solely a problem of lv0tool all the time, but also wrong encryption setting for isolated elfs. maybe adding another lv0 tool, which can handle uncompressed loaders.

anyways, pretty late I have checked now, so much for being stubborn and blind. will update my git, but dunno when. maybe will look into adding those nag screens about using flasher

edit
btw, those don't like mfwbuilder, I can only recommend using PUAD GUI but only in its v2.00 version

have looked now into patches, and it could be tedious making one, cause there is some index txt file included, which I dunno if it is important, when installing.

so my other test was creating 'kind of' patches, by removing update pkgs, which is working fine. so in the end, you can create a coreos pup, which solely updates coreos, and also a devflash pup, which only updates devflash files. this means, only changing devflash files won't touch any coreos files. great for NOR flash, cause of no hardbrick risk at all and only softbrick. also, no strain to the chip itself, if doing many update tests, like me
