Dex to cex without homebrew apps

I there anyway to go from dex to cex with out homebrew? all the tuts i have seen use some sort of homebrew application.

Not sure why you refuse to use homebrew, but there is no way to do it without it
Sony never allowed to do this kind of changes from DEX to CEX, so is imposible to do it by official means

There is no way to convert a CEX Machine to DEX, without any need of a Custom Firmware and Rebug Toolbox, converting from CEX to DEX requires to dump the EID Root Key in the ToolBox,and Rewrite the Target ID in Flash, and its only possible with Rebug Custom Firmwares.

Without any need of Homebrew you´ll need to acquire a DEX machine from Sony, in other cases Developer Kits/Debug Units, such as the DECR-1000/DECR-1400 "Dev" or DECHA00/DECHJ00/DECH-2000/DECH-4000 "Debug/Test", the Dev Kits contains an additional pool of 256MB o XDR RAM, making a total of 512MB, needed for Debugging and Development, and other Dev Features, while the Debug/Test Units are the same as retail hardware, but only with Debugging Features enabled, same as converting a CEX machine to DEX,but only in the official way.

you can make a cex dump, then use c2d to create a dex dump from it. I think that's the way it was originally done, but I don't remember the entire process. despite that, I still create dex dumps on my computer, possibly due to paranoia. you do need your erk from rebug toolbox or idpset. that option won't be available unless rebug though.

I have a debugging station (which is why i was wondering how to from dex to cex) i want to put Hen on it because the lowest firmware it can take is 3.66. do i need to start out on cex, or will the same steps work on my dex ps3?

Yes, originally it was needed to do it in PC, the reason why is needed the EID root key is because is needed to decrypt the EID area in flash, the process in PC was something like this:

1) Crop the EID area from a flash dump
2) Decrypt it
3) Change some identifyers inside EID
4) Encrypt it
5) Write the new EID in the real flash overwriting the original EID

In concept the process was straightforward, but the problem is there is lot ot room for "human mistakes" and the consequences was a brick
So is the kind of thing that is better made with a software that automatizes everything (like in rebug toolbox), this way the risks of mistakes is much lower :)

The ps3 i have is a DECH-3000a

I'm not even sure if c2d will create a nand dump if something is wrong. I don't think it's supposed to. there is an error in windows 10 in which the open ssl config will be searched for in the wrong location, but you can fix it by compatibility and administrative privileges. I'm pretty sure the error can even be ignored, but that's what to do in case you're afraid something may be wrong with it. the dumps are nearly identical (cex and dex) except for a part in the middle.

There is a DEX HEN and HFW for Debug units. I have not looked for these myself as I have no intention of putting HEN on my DECH4000A as I have 2 PS3s on CFW and another CECH4003A on HEN.

@kozarovv may be able to tell you where the DEX HFW is as I think its on Discord somewhere, as for the DEX HEN, it should be on GitHub somewere, most likely on the PS3Xploit repo or look on @Joonie s repo.

Also you will not be able to convert the Debug unit to CEX as it is a metldr2 and is non-CFW compatible and you need CFW = REBUG D-REX to do this with a Debug unit.

Nice... the AV Testing tool counter part to my DECH4000A... so they are more or less the same model DEBUG units plus or minus a few features per model.

Not seen one of these since I worked making games as thats how I got my DECH4000A. I took it home to do some work and they never asked for it back when I left so it was mine, I originaly used the DECH2000A but the dev who used it before me trashed it so they sent it back to S@ny and I got a brand new DECH4000A to work with.

Its also strange that they never asked for it back as these units were on loan from S@ny so when ever they broke we got a free replacement, and when the company is finished with them they send all the units back. A lot of companies do this as its cheaper than buying the units out right.

A DECR1400 cost £2000 to buy of S@ny back then and the original DECR1000 units were £10,000 a piece to buy.

that's one way sony really screwed up with the ps3. there are like no indie games on the system due to those prices. with the 360, you just had to pay $99 for a license to create your own game. there's over 4,000 indie games on that system.

Thats why most companies just loan them from S@ny, but you still have to then pay for the SDK Licence to make games and thats not cheap either, and its not easy to get one lol. Especially if your trying to start your own dev company and make games. So a lot of them start on PC to get some credit then move on to other things and platforms.

Maybe it's different from ordinary DEX, I try to install using OFW DEX 4.82 via recovery menu, it fails, just loading.

What does its current FW version say it is? Am sure even though these are the same as otrher PS3's hardware wise they have there own FW irrc.

not good for small companies. I think breath of death vii (an indie game for the 360) only had like three people working on it. on that system, the amount you can price an indie game (possibly any game) for is based on total size (i.e. 50MBs and lower being a $1 or 350MBs and higher being $5).

Thats a rarity, probably have some special identifyers inside the EID

@littlebalup look at that, is a DECH-S4000AB, i bet you dont have info about them in the flash check tools :)
