Downgrade FAT PS3 to 3.17?

A friend of mine wanted to play with the original OtherOS features. As I understand it, 3.17 should still have this feature. Since I have a FAT with Rebug 4.80.1 here, QA enabled, I figured it would be an easy test,

Found 3.17 PUP on the internet but the console only says "Corrupt data" from the restore menu or "No applicable data was found" (or similar) from the desktop.

This is with a good USB stick. I even put 4.82 CFW on it just to test and that works fine. Structure is fine on the USB key.

MinVer says its good to 1.9 so can't be that. Anyone have any ideas why that would not work?

are you on dex or cex? you should be able to downgrade to that firmware. heck, you could even make a mfw or that firmware in case you wanted those advantages. ;)

Just downgrade to rebug 3.55.3, then install firmware 3.15, or 3.16. Do not install 3.17, it should be fakeware.

You can not downgrade from version 3.56+ directly, cause old pkg key was revoked/replaced.
So you have to install 3.55 fw with spkg support. Rebug 3.55.3 would be OK.
Then you can go lower.

Edit: Found all the firmwares by googling for "all ps3 firmware download", and they had 3.17 there. Tried it anyway for fun but turned out to be 2.17.
Downloaded 3.15 instead. Currently installing fine from Rebug 3.55.4 =)

To confirm the firmwares are right check here http://www.psdevwiki.com/ps3/System_Firmware
In every page of every firmware appears a hash in MD5 or SHA1
And even a download link (that eventually goes down in the host services)

Incase the link is down... copypaste the MD5 and search for in it google ;)
This uses to work pretty fine, there are many webs that hosts all PS3 firmwares, and they uses to show the MD5 next to the download link... so by searching in google for the MD5 uses to return some valid download links
