ESR

PS2 ESR r10f

One more question (pertaining to patchers like ones from Jabu) and then I'll stop bugging you.

Most patchers I've seen don't come with an option to switch ESR versions (like direct mode off). I had this conversation elsewhere in this forum, but I was never really satisfied with the answer (sorry!). Am I to change the ESR version manually, or do the patchers have that problem handy?

Usually, the patchers DOES NOT includes ESR, they just add the "DVD Video" files.
Jabu's patcher was created to add compatibility with FDVDB, so people can easily patch their ISOs. You can manually change the ESR version to any one you want (even the older ones).

HWNJ, when you say that the Jabu patcher is different from ESR itself, would you also say that the compatibility rates are different as well?

No the compatibility should be exactly the same, because the game is run through the normal ESR.ELF!
Technically there could be a difference, if FDVDB doesn't clean up some sections before executing the ELF but I haven't heard of such an issue.

This version is not for storing on MC (it doesn't matter where You place it or from where launch it) but for launching app which will be given support of fake DVD-Video disc (ESR disc, ESR patched disc, whatever You will call it).

Besides that, it is well explained i readme. :P

I did read the readme, thast why I ask .

for mcard version it says:
The other is to launch elf files in either mcx:/BOOT/BOOT.ELF or mcx:/B?DATA-SYSTEM/BOOT.ELF - "mcard" version

according to readme it is for storing on MC, so I don't quite understand.

This is executable from where this ESR version launching it, not from where must be launched itself.

If You don't need support "ESR disc" in any of homebrew app which support disc media, ESR mc card version is not useful for You.

@nex86 are you sure you know how to read?
The other is to launch elf files in either mcx:/BOOT/BOOT.ELF or mcx:/B?DATA-SYSTEM/BOOT.ELF - "mcard" version
Try to read that again.

Now, a question:
Q: What's the mcard version for?
A: It is used (continue reading the quote):
to launch elf files in either mcx:/BOOT/BOOT.ELF or mcx:/B?DATA-SYSTEM/BOOT.ELF

So, it LAUNCHES the ELF file located at the mentioned paths with the ESR patches.
Again, in case it was not clear enough... IT LAUNCHES THESE FILES. Obviously these paths are NOT for you to paste ESR there. You must paste an app like uLE or something there so it is launched by ESR mcard. If you paste ESR in these paths, it will launch itself over and over and over and over and over................................................................................
And, obviously, you can launch that app from any device you want, like mc, mass, hdd, etc...

thank you for this, and i wanted to ask is there any way possible to update the fdvdb esr patcher with this so it uses esr r10f instead of the outdated one? i much prefer self booting discs with fdvdb esr patcher but from my tests the newest esr version is more stable than the one the fdvdb patcher uses obviously.

i think a while back i tried manually replacing the esr files that are within the fdvdb esr patcher with this here new esr version, but i dont think it worked.

anyway thank you again, please let me know if its possible to do what i mentioned

which version of esr? does it matter? id assume just direct but would it work with direct_off
It will work with Direct Off.
By the way, some games REQUIRES specific ESR versions. Some run only on Direct off and others only on Direct.

harvest moon a wonderful life special edition (SLUS-21171) never gets past now loading screen, i tried direct on and off, and i also tried the old esr gui version too just incase, using r10f btw

Is there any issue with SCES_517.19 ( Gran Turismo 4 ) ? I patched with Toxic then used the Jabu 0.4 pacher which includes ESR R10f direct . I burned a Verbatim and a Ritek, they boot but get stuck after the Gran Turismo logo. Should i use another ESR ? I only have one blank left and these are getting pretty rare and expensive nowadays .
