Hi all
This is my first time posting in the forum! As you can likely tell from my title, it's a very common topic, but one I can't seem to find a definitive answer to. I am hoping for a little guidance.
I recently bought a refurbished CECHC03 backwards compatible PS3 from a reputable seller who specialises in this line of work. I don't know all the correct terminology, but the console has been modded to have Evilnat, Webman, Multiman etc. This includes custom fan controls.
The key part of this is that the console has also had both chips delidded and reset with new thermal paste.
My query is around what temperatures I should be expecting. From searching the forums, I wonder if they're slightly too high considering the work that's been done to it.
I did two tests this morning to produce some results. Results are as follows:
Allowed to idle on the console's main menu, after one hour with the fan set to 30%, the CPU is at 70 degrees Celsius and the RSX is at 61 degrees Celsius.
After being allowed to idle 'in game' for an hour (MGS HD Collection: MGS 3) with the fan set to 30%, the CPU is at 74 degrees Celsius and the RSX is at 66 degrees Celsius.
From what I've read, it's mainly the CPU I'm concerned about. I guess my main bugbear is I'm quite sensitive to noise and the fan at 30% does my nut in. Even turned down slightly to 28% it's much more bearable, but then I see the temperatures climb by two to three more degrees.
I may have gone into this under the wrong impression, but I understood that delidding the console and reapplying thermal paste should make it run relatively cool and quiet. Indeed, it is marketed as such by the seller.
I have spoken to the seller and they said I can send it back if I'm worried and they will reset the heat sink and reapply the thermal paste. But before I go through the rigmarole and pain of packaging it back up to return, I just wanted to see what everyone else thought.
Thank you.
