Game Data, Updates, DLC and the PARAM.SFO

is there any way to modify the names of game data, updates, or dlc with the PARAM.SFO. I figured game data may be impossible without hacking the games, but what about updates and dlc? I tried changing the names of four updates (the only four I have for my short list of games) within the PARAM.SFO, then reinstalling them as stand alone. now, this worked for all digital games, but updates to ISO games didn't. the names are still as they were. I thought maybe I didn't change the right language, but God of War Ascension only has only one title in the PARAM.SFO, so that should've changed if it was right. I'm not sure if it's taking the name from the ISO's themselves or not.

edit: I have an idea. tomorrow morning, I'm going to try deleting the updates (checking the original PARAM.SFO to see what the original names were). I hate game data stuff, because it's as cryptic as the 3ds when it comes to what's what. anyway, I'm going to delete the four updates, then put the modified PARAM.SFO files in their place and try installing the full update, when the update isn't on the system. it may not update the metadata database if the same version is already installed (for disc games only).

we have success! the method I thought of worked. you have to rebuild the entire pkg for retail updates (not digital ones), and the name will change. I deleted the original updates first though. it's possible that by opening the games it would've updated (not sure as I didn't try it). that's supposed to update the database, but so is installing only a PARAM.SFO, so I dunno.

edit: btw, after extracting the original pkg, I looked at the original PARAM.SFO to see what the name and version number was to compare with on the xmb. I looked for the name, then went to information to see version number to see which things to delete, since there's game data in there too. I deleted those, then I replaced the PARAM.SFO with the edited ones, and repackaged (right click folder, Make Pkg).

I finally got all digital/pkg games alphabetized. I had to redo some of them. I wasn't sure where sonic the hedgehog 1 and 2 were getting their names from (which title), so I changed all of them. the default title didn't work. I added a space for uncharted 1, so that it would come before uncharted 2. and, C00 titles, like sonic the hedgehog 1, 2, and ratchet and clank full frontal assault required redoing the entire pkg. I guess the C00 PARAM.SFO is recorded in the metadata and can't be changed if installing the same version. it took quite a while to get everything right. I also changed the - in several titles, which I had originally placed there to indicate there was a subtitle, with a colon instead. that's the way it usually is with the ps3, so I changed all of them back. it was a tedious process, but it's done now. I'll do my four disc updates tomorrow or Friday.
