PS3HEN Getting PS3SX to work on PS3HEN

I'd like to try this out because I heard Mortal Kombat Trilogy runs great on it, and we all know the native PS1 emulator on PS3 has freezing issues with that game. But when I go to start PS3SX on my PS3, it won't even start up; it just gives the following error:
An error occurred during the start operation.
(80010009)

I'm on 4.86.1 HFW (Don't wanna update it, I have my reasons) with PS3HEN v3.0.3. Is there a way I can force PS3SX to work? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Ok so do not waste your time. The app was a quick port that only saw one release and was never done again. Didn't have dynarec support for games. The few that do work run piss poor. There is a dynarec for tue PS3 now but one would need to modify the code to take advantage of it.

You're probably using ps1_emu as WebMAN MOD defaults to it. Netemu should run the game fine as stated by the compatibility list. You can change to netemu by checking the box in the "Scan for content" section of WebMAN MOD's setup.

@atreyu187 : There was another homebrew PS1 emulator based on the RetroArch version of Mednafen. That could be what you're referring to, as I've already tried it and it was too slow to even bother with.

@mrjaredbeta : Just tried netemu and the game still freezes at certain points.

No I am referring to the PS3SX emulator. That came out when we still had to use dongles and CFW wasn't even a thing back then. It was a quick dirty port that surfaced with a "PSP" emulator that was actually code to brick the PS3. Same crap happened when the Vita came out.

@RexFesto696 You're right, I tested it as well on netemu. The freezes (in both emulators) are the same as PS2's backwards compatibility issues.

@arcadekidflo It will as it doesn't matter where the game is being ran from. There are reports of this game freezing all the way back in 2007, and even earlier on PS2.

Yes Trilogy didn't work on every PS1 nor PS2 I am afraid. Well I say won't work but it will for solo play or VS but the treasures lock it up and if you die you will not be able to continue. On PS3.

On the PS2 the game will crash everytime you beat the game and the characters ending videos play.

I just gave up and play Ultimate MK from the Arcade Kollection. But the only success I know of using the PS1 was told to me to rip out the CDDA and place blank CDDA files instead. Never bothered to try as who wants to play MK without the soundtrack. Really wish I had better new for you.

I remember like 15 years ago i swapped the music from MK Trilogy with the one from MK Deadly Alliance / Deception , but i can't really remember how i did it . I believe we become more stupid with age :D

There was the early PS3SX emu on 3.41, but yea was just a simple PoC port and not sure if much ran well if anything on it..

There was also the PS3SX emu from late 3.55 era or early 4.xx with dynarec support from IngPeria (i think i butchered his name spelling)/ That was much better and was a PoC of his dynarec support. .

Later on as a PoC to show why a dynarec is needed, retroarch (in an unofficial build) had mednafen ps1 emulation and the emulation was very accurate it was just slow. Crash Bandicoot would play all the way through (or as long as you could take it) just very slow and choppy.

For best performance those ps1 emu projects need 2 things:

* a SPU based recompiler
* dynamic executable userland memory allocation

Dynamic executable memory alloc support is now provided by Cobra/Mamba but could also be made as individual kernel payload to be used without Cobra.
Existing recompiler code made for PPU would need to be ported to SPU.

Sorry to bump the thread, but I've heard that you can use POPstarter on the PS3 as well as the PS2, and AFAIK MK Trilogy has no freezing issues when run through POPstarter on the PS2. So if that's the case, can someone tell me or at least pinpoint me to how I can get POPstarter to work on the PS3?

I'm just curious how wells runs PS3SX. I also tried to install it on HEN. I even bothered to reassign the eboot but it never work. maybe it's need a exclusive CFW function tp work

some suggestion about running MK Trilogy on PS3 :

-Maybe using some of these patches will magically fix the problem.
https://www.romhacking.net/games/4222/

-I have also read that the PAL version of the game runs without problems on PS2, there is also a JP version of the game that hasn't been well tested

-POPStarter use some cheats codes to fix the frezee of MKT not sure if this information will be any useful for PS3

One thing you can try is to create an EBOOT for the PSP and try to run it on the PS3.

MK Trilogy runs perfect on the PSP, so it's better to use the good old POPS.

PS3 can't run PSP PS1 Eboots.

I tested the Japanese and European version of the game and they have not frozen. but i'm not sure what makes the game freeze exactly. I heard that using the tournament mode or let the continue screen go to cero makes the games freeze. but i had no problem trying those modes.

Used PS1_emu and Cobra PSX Launcher

Just tested the Japanese version on my PS3 and can confirm it works with no issues, so that's what I'm gonna use on the PS3 from now on.
