PS3 (Guide) Jailbreaking With Bgtoolset

ok thank you so much i have hen so i would need bgtoolset because i installed the pup file for hfw...
apparently someone said it should be out today, but i think thats a lie. bguerville hasnt said nun but ps3xploit said by the end of this week

nice I got pup files by envilant but it says file is corrupted can you help someone know why that is?

if you're trying to install cfw over hfw or ofw without patching first, that's the reason why. are you on 4.88hfw or ofw? gotta wait until bogey's toolset is read. ;)

No i know I know people will like to get your ipadresses by sending a fault link or some or brick your console which if you don know how to unbrick youŕe screwed lol

Jailbreaking Using Bgtoolset

This guide is for CFW-compatable models ONLY!

You will use PS3 Toolset to patch your PS3 to allow CFW installation. The toolset was made by @bguerville (who is also a member of the PS3Xploit team). It is usually called "bgtoolset".

Minimum Requirements

  • Your PS3's date and time must be set accurately.
  • You must be on OFW or HFW version 4.80-4.88.
  • Javascript, cookies, and the flash player plugin must be enabled.

If you have disabled the plugin for the current user profile, you may need to switch to a different user profile or create a new one in order to use the toolset. You can enable the Flash plugin permanently by checking the "Do not display again" option in the plugin's loading confirmation screen.

Do NOT try to close the browser while the toolset is performing any operations. To avoid accidently exiting the browser, you should turn on "Browser Exit Confirmation". Do NOT delete cookies between sessions.

Do NOT disable "FMM Strict Mode"! It is a safety feature.

Follow the steps below to patch your PS3 and install CFW:

1. Open ** www.** ** www.ps3xploit.net > Domain no Longer owned by team** (NEW URL = http://ps3toolset.com) > Domain no Longer owned by team** (NEW URL = http://ps3toolset.com > Domain no Longer owned by team** (NEW URL = http://ps3toolset.com)/bgtoolset in the PS3's web browser.

2. Click on the "Flash Memory Manager" tab. If the toolset reports that your PS3 is NOT CFW-compatable, then you must use HEN. (see my HEN guide instead)

3. Dump your Flash Memory onto a USB device. Check the dump using littlebalup's PyPS3checker on your computer. Save the dump and keep it safe! You might need it in the future to repair your PS3.

4. Use the Flash memory patch option "Load patch via https". If validation is successful after download, apply the patch. If you get an error, do NOT continue to patch (although it should not let you anyway).
...you can download the file called "nofsm_patch.bin" from littlebalup's github. Save it to a USB device and use the "Load from USB" option instead of https.

5. If patching validation is successful, make a new dump and check it too. Save this dump with the other one but remember to give the files good names so you will know which is from before and which is from after patching.
If any error is marked "danger", do NOT reboot or turn off your PS3. Seek guidance in this forum. Do NOT post your dumps! Only post the log file from PyPS3checker. Always mask the IDPS before you send a dump to someone else to fix it. If you receive errors marked "warning", they are generally okay but you are welcome to ask about them.

6. Reboot when the toolset tells you it is okay. Finally, install a CFW version equal to or higher than your current firmware version. If you get a validation error, do NOT reboot or turn off the PS3. Seek guidance in this forum.

* Remember that after you install CFW, you should NOT install OFW or HFW! Only install CFW or Dualboot pup files.
This will cause you to lose the ability to install CFW. You would need to use bgtoolset again to rejailbreak. If you want to mess with HEN or play online with maximum safety, use duelboot pups instead - they are OFW and HFW pups that are patched to allow CFW to install on top of them without having to use bgtoolset again.
Is there any way to do that(the patch memory thing) without the tool? Like manually, because i cant open the web(idk if its because my Internet, also i already try it using wired connection), its worked when IM in 4.87 but now i cant open the web idk why

you can always use a hardware flasher but that is not for everybody (some soldering required).

the only offline software solution was not updated past 4.85. (it would be very hard to update it because the patch used has changed.)

Nvm it worked now, my WiFi is just drunk that time, ty

Many thanks bguerville! I just used your tool to recover my PS3 after unwisely flashing HFW over CFW. I appreciate the effort you have put into this. Thank you

When i enter the tool set web site it just freezes on loading and it doesnt load
Post a screenshot of the Toolset with the logs tab opened when stalled.
You can open the PS3 Toolset directly on the logs tab by using this url:

I had issues with the toolset freezing on 1080i video display settings. Setting it to 1080p fixed it. For anyone else that was having that weird issue.
I must admit I find that a little surprising, the video display settings is probably one of the last things I would have suspected the Toolset to have problems with.
But everything is possible when it comes to vulnerability exploitation which by nature is messing with regular system execution.
If this turned out to be true & not just a coincidence, it would help me in the search for a fix & provide a workaround for users in the meantime.
But before rejoicing, we need one or more users to provide confirmation...

Hey @Coro I was wondering how to un-jailbreak my PS3 Slim running Evilnat 4.88 CFW.. I don't find CFW useful anymore so I was wondering if I could un-jailbreak it and return to HFW or OFW.. suggestions?

delete all homebrew apps, ISOs, and other files and folders not needed on OFW. then install OFW. (also delete any fake psn accounts.)

If you wish to revert back to OFW, all you really need to do is install a OFW PUP.

Regarding the optional hdd cleanup (if there is any cleanup to do), you have 2 options:

1. you clean the hdd contents manually while still on CFW, uninstall homebrews & delete the files you won't need anymore, remove fake accounts if any...

2. you want to be thorough & reformat the hdd then reinstall the OS but you would lose your game installations, saves etc...
You may be able to do some official backup & restore operations but it is neither a quick nor a practical process & often you still end up losing part of your stuff anyway because of the limitations.

You should choose the most appropriate method for you in your situation.
If you intend to use HFW/HEN anyway, the hdd cleanup needs should be limited, but going from CFW to HFW/HEN is not exactly a common move, it doesn't make much sense imho except maybe to lower risks with very specific PSN related practices & even then it's really a gamble because there is no statistical evidence of risk variation between CFW & HFW/HEN.
