PS3 Guide To Installing PS3 Firmware (And Link Repo)

Hey i can't update the console via usb because it tells me that there aren't any usable update files.
Does somebody know how it'll recognize the .pup file on the usb Stick?

The USB device needs to be formatted as FAT32 with MBR - GPT partitioned drives are not recognised by the PS3.
 
I've been trying for weeks, even ordered new usb drives and i still get the same error..

Issue updating the PS3 system software0x8002F997Error occurred while checking update data; file may be corrupted.

I've checked the files and the md5 matches, i've uncompressed them in multiple ways and formatted the drives with different software. tried rebug, evilnat, etc..
I feel like I have exhausted all my options and I must be missing something absurdly obvious cause I can't get the CFW to install for the life of me.

Someone please help me!

I have a fatie CECHA01 running 4.84, just installed a fresh bluray drive and its working great, i just want to make it region free.

I'm succesfully running Evilnat 4.89 with Cobra ON and there is not a single PS2 disc that I can run.

I have a FAT CECHA1 and the only reason i wanted the custom firware was to make it region free.
Can I please get some help? PS1 works fine, even Japanese and backups play like a Charm, but I want the same for PS2

Hey Im on 4.85, should I use the HFW 4.85.1 download you provided? After that I can use the Autohen, right? I also tried autohen before realizing i need HFW. Are those downloaded files gonna be a problem? Thank you for answering!!
 
So I have a CECH-4201B on official 4.90. I'm trying to install Hen 3.2.1 which, in release notes, says I first need to install HFW 4.90. Made fat32 mbr usb with HFW_4.90.1_PS3UPDAT_03_01_2023.zip. XMB system update from storage reports "no applicable update data was found" What could I be doing wrong?

are you just placing the zip file itself on usb? you have to extract the pup file from the zip.

if you have the superslim with 12GB memory, you must use safe mode to install pup file.
 
Thank you for the safe mode solution - this worked and have successfully installed Hen 3.2.1. Wikipedia reports the super slim 12GB is CECH-42xxA but is there a way I can check if mine has 12GB flash memory? Also can you suggest guide/package to connect to a NAS?
 
Is there any location that you can point the updater on hdd0? If the usb ports are down is there a manual way to update a firmware not using the system update function?

no, any firmware install attempt will fail. ps3 will then be stuck in bootloop and be useless untill repaired.

if you are on ofw 4.80 to 4.82, you can install hen without installing hfw first.

if your drive just stopped reading discs, it may still "work" as far as the ps3 knows. however, unplugging the power from the drive would make it appear faulty even if it is not. sometimes people unplug it because it is not reading and that is the only reason they can not update.
