PS3 Guide To Installing PS3 Firmware (And Link Repo)

Why would You thinking overwriting each sector is impossible on dying HDD? Bad sector means magnetically unstable area, which means all data written there (i.e 512 bytes) can be easily changed by other factors than strong magnetic field by head as normally should.

Maximum write speed for Your device multiplicate by

You will not know if there is or not issue with HDD if not check S.M.A.R.T report from at least short test...

For such task, first You must solve the error number issue. You have said that You formatted HDD, so this for sure eliminating damaged FAT32 partition when update package is copying during updating firmware process.

If HDD report return fine values, then maybe You didn't patched firmware to be able to install CFW? Are You using bgtoolbox? You should because it easy and brick proof.

I followed the Mr Mario YT tutorial step by step, unless maybe I missed a step. Im pretty sure this is the bgtoolbox method. I will go back over my steps.

Thank you

Ok, one thing I have noticed is when I use the bgtoolset. when I apply the patch it takes 5 seconds where as Mr Mario tutorial it takes around 2 minutes 40 seconds.

I don't know if its quick on my system because the HDD has been formatted.

I will try the update again now.

are you sure he's not dumping the flash? I've heard it can take a little while, because it can only dump so much data at any one time. it's also dependent on if you have a NOR or a NAND console.

edit: iirc, nand is 239MBs and NOR is 16MBs.

Well the update did not work again. I have the original disk drive that came with the machine installed. I do have another drive I could try if you think that might help, alternatively I could format the drive again and try the steps from Mr Mario one more time.

@MrMario2011 is a member here. I think this is the same person as the Mr. Mario from youtube, so you might ask him for clarification. I've never used bguerville toolbox nor seen the video you mentioned, so I don't have any experience with that.

For some reason I am unable to message him directly, I guess he is a popular person and might be inundated with requests.

I'll have to hope he might see this thread :)

"NAND Patch Should Take 6 - 8 seconds to apply
NOR Patch Should Take Roughly 1:30 - 1:40 to apply"

As stated by PS3Xploit's official documentation found here: http://**ps3xploit.com >Domain no Longer owned by team** (ps3xploit.me =new)/help/bgtoolset.html

As for an error not allowing you to install CFW once patched, I usually see this happen when people are trying to install a lower CFW than the OFW they're on. If you're on 4.87 OFW, you cannot install 4.86 REBUG immediately after patching. You have to install any CEX CFW 4.87 or higher first, then once jailbroken worry about downgrading later.

@MrMario2011 , I like your tutorials, though the only time I ever used one was injecting the latest hacked xbox compatibility files with the 360 (the ones done by Math that allow the guide to work with xbox games). I didn't realize I had to enable access to the xbox partition (hddx) instead of just copying over the files. it worked btw. I did it with Aurora even though I use FSD2, but I think FSD2 has that option. anyway, I got that idea from your video tutorials.

as you can see, it works. I'm playing an xbox original game, mega man anniversary collection, and the 360 guide works. godreborn is what I changed my profile name to with probahbly le fluffie app or something (can't recall), because godreborn had been used on the xbox 360 officially. my name was similar to that beforehand. this was way before pinky.

Thank you for your input MrMario.

So I successfully downgraded to 4.86 but one thing puzzles me, I cannot in anyway get the rebug toolbox to run! I have downloaded new versions and also tried the version pre bundled with the CFW but all I get is a black screen. I did try leaving it for several minutes but nothing happened.

I rebooted and i'm now wondering what to do next.

My goal is to run FSM to re marry BD but im stuck with what I should do next.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Ok I think I understand what has happened doing some reading now.

I think I need to install a NOBD version of the Rebug CFW, but before I do this I would like to ask another question.

Considering im only using CFW to repair or more specifically re-marry the BD disc drive, will I actually even be able to do this using a NOBD version of the CFW?

It would be so much easier if Sony had released some tools for this lol :)

Thank you all anyway.

yeah it sounds like you need nobd cfw (untill done with remarry at least).

Good evening, so I successfully (well I got an error when re marrying but I understand this is ok) managed to re marry the drive. The instructions do jump around a little but I think I have it but do just want to check if thats ok, sorry to be a pain.

So even though the re marry process was successful (I got the failed message) I do need to install a version of CFW without noBD in order for the disc to show in the XMB?

Thank you
Dathh

p.s. how cool is multiman! never used it before what an awesome piece of software.

yes. if the regular cfw will not install, then the remarry did not work. in that case, reinstall the nobd cfw and try again.

Ok so I managed to get it working…sort of!

I installed a CFW 4.85 REX and did a remarry with message "succeeded".

• I inserted a blu ray movie but nothing.
• I inserted a ps3 game disc and got a disc icon and tried to run and got an error.
• I re-inserted a blu ray to try again, still nothing!
• I re-inserted a ps3 game disc, now this doesn't work.

I suspect a possible faulty blu ray lens.

• I inserted. PS2 disc and it worked flawlessly.

So I think tomorrow I will change the laser, but good progress has been made.

thank you to all.

Evening all, just wanted to report that after changing the laser the PS3 is fully working in every way.

Thank you to everyone who assisted in helping me get this working with your advice and support material.

I'll give the machine a nice new thermal past the weekend and all will be well.

I had forgotten about that or this thread. I kinda remember mentioning to @Coro about the misspelling of @habib 's name, but I forgot I posted yesterday. good long term memory, bad short term one. glad you got it working though. congrats! :)
