Help!! Ps3 won't show video HDMI

Hey guys I I haven't touched my ps3 in months I'm running rebug 4.82. I tried to start it up after all that time it was sitting there and I was greeted by a black screen. I tried doing a video reset by holding down the power button until the second beep and it does a quick yellowish flash and then it takes me to a screen that says "hdmi input was detected" I press yes and it stays black after that but I can hear the audio. I tried switching hdmi cables and I tried switching to another TV and it's the same thing. What could be causing the problem? Is there any solution to this? Is my hdmi port malfunctioning in my ps3? I already ordered some component cables but I am still waiting on them. Any help would be appreciated thank you.

I am thinking about the IC Encoder chip, but if that was bad, both Analog RCA/Component and HDMI wouldn´t work, so that would be a Green Light without any activity, which it could be the RSX or North Bridge, but for that the button combination wouldn´t work.

But since you have a video signal by pressing the button combination, you´re in luck, which narrows down the issue.

It's a weird issue. I have a 2 year old toddler and he's very mischievous I know he had something to do with it lol
It could be what i was suggesting here:

A lifted pin of the hdmi connector, broken solder, etc...
The HDMI connectors of the PS3 are soldered "throught hole", this means you can see the pins at the other side of the motherboard

The tricky thing is by looking at that pins with your bare eyes you are not going to see if the solders are fine (most probably will look fine, but is because you cant see the "break" line all around)
So is needed to use a magnifyer glass/loupe
Also, a good trick is to connect an HMDI cable and move the cable around (slowlly and firmly, but with lot of care dont dont break it even more)
If you see there is a pin that is moving... BINGO ! (because obviouslly a soldered pin should not move at all)

In other words... if you move the HDMI cable and there is a pin moving with it, you can be 100% sure the solder of that pin is broken

I can't see any physical damage but I plug in the hdmi cord and move it around and it has alot of play. I dont think that's normal

Regarding the hdmi connector. I'm very bad at soldering. I found the connector on ebay. Is it simple as in removing the old one, and the new one just plugs in, or is there more to it than that?

But dont buy a new connector, most probably the connector itself is fine

What you need to do (incase there is some pin moving) is to resolder that pin
Is tricky because the pins are very close to each others

Removing the original HDMI connector could be a complete mess... to remove it (in a single movement) you need to melt all the pins, and the two "metal posts" at the sides... everything at the same time... this means is going to need lot of heat (especially in the pins of the metal posts because the heat is going to spread along all the metal "shield" of the connector)
An easy way is to use hot air... from a solder rework station... or a hair dryer (yes, hairdryers generates lot of heat)
If you try to remove it, most probably you are not going to find the way to melt all the solders at the same time so you are going to be struggling "left and right" with it trying to desolder one side first, then the other side... and all the time with the melted black plastic

The result of all that heat... is the black plastic of the connector is going to melt like cheese
This mess with melted plastic happens always when trying to remove it... no problem because you are supposed to replace it by a new one, but well, you know... if you are not much used to solder jobs at home it can be a disaster

What i would do is to use a solder iron with a fine tip, and resolder the pins of the old connector... this should not need much heat

Just a thought but if HDCP has been somehow disabled in the DEBUG menu settings then this can also cause this problem. You get sound such as the coldboot, but no visual. When you reset the video you will get visual as this is in safe mode but as soon as you select HDMI it will go black again as HDCP is still disabled. (I accidently disabled this using ProDG once and it caused this issue)

Try setting up and SD resolution connection for now and check in the DEBUG menu at the bottom of the settings menu on the XMB and look for HDCP. Or you could reinstall your firmware from the recovery menu and that should set HDCP back to is default settings if it is this.

Hey guys the component cable arrived. This is what I did. I plugged both the component and the hdmi at the same time. While on component I went to manually configure the display settings to hdmi. All the definitions work in hdmi all the way up to 1080i but for some reason it wont display 1080p.

I'm not home right now but when I get the chance I'm going to try Cypher's suggestion. And honestly I dont have the experience to even attempt resoldering the hdmi connector.

In case this is confusing. The hdmi display works. But I get a black screen on 1080p resolution.

Hey Snake,
I may have that issue. No sound, no video with neither hdmi/analog.
What would I do about the ic encoder chip?
I believe this system (CECHA01) has Not been exploited.

No Sound, No Video from AV or HDMI, No HDD Activity or DS3 Sync, GLOD or Dead RSX most likely, reflow it at 150°Cs the chip and the substrate shall restore itself temporarily, but if the console boots with a reflow, then Reball a new RSX.

Ok, I jumped the gun, maybe lol.
I checked hdmi port for loosening, solder looked a little "greyed out" I guess I would say, kinda cracky I guess.
So I put my heat gun to it, just to see if maybe it would re-seat. Did the reset video output with power button.
Here's what I got (pics below).
Video on screen froze in 4th pic but still had audio. I could hear the clicking from going left to right as it makes when scrolling xmb.

UPDATE
So I made sure solder was good on hdmi, and replaced the hdd. System boots fine, all menus work, no issues.
But Now, when I try to stick in a game disc, you can see in top right corner in clock area that it's trying to load, and you can hear blue ray drive working, but no game disc shows up on menu and screen freezes. Still have sound, can click over (from memory) to select shut down and select and turn off console with controller.
Any ideas??? NEC issue????

UPDATE:
Ok folks. Been discussing this in post/thread PSXPLACE

https://r.tapatalk.com/shareLink/to...share_fid=179881&share_type=t&link_source=app

So if anyone agrees, disagrees, or ideas I think this issue flits better there, and doesn't interrupt this thread.
Thank you all
