Help Upgrading from 4.81 REBUG

Hello All,
I have been away for the PS3 scene for a few years. I primarily use my PS3 to play Rocksmith with custom songs. It works really well and I have not wanted to risk messing it up.
I can see that the newest OFW is 4.88 and there is a CFW for this version.
Is there a guide for me to follow to get safely to the CFW 4.88?
Is it still possible to get a a new consoleID to unban and get back into the PSN?

I am not sure if I have a REX version (or even what that means anymore). I have mmCM 04.85.01 installed and the firmware shows 4.81 [SC-35 | PL3] and my mode is COBRA 7.5.0 compatible.

I know I was using REBUG when I did it years ago and it shows REBUG on the XMB screen.

yes, you can update the way you would normally just with a cfw pup. it's about as easy as it can get. as for getting unbanned, you'd need another idps, a legit one. you can get one from a nearly broken beyond repair console. don't buy one from someone. chances are you'll be ripped off, because he's probably sold the same one to someone else. once someone does something stupid you're all banned.

I will give it a try and yes I am aware of the rip off. I am a victim of that a couple of years ago. I have found some fairly cheap working slims for sale locally. I will go that route.
