Hi, I'm new to custom firmware and need help.

I've had this error before, and I thought it was because it won't copy over large files, but I looked around and apparently it's due to having a long file name and file structure.

What does your current file structure look like for games? Example (G:/folder/folder files/ file.iso)

Thanks for the rescue man!

I'm now inside irisman and on the right side it says: ntfs0:/PS3ISO

and on the left side, it says: /dev_hdd0/PS3ISO

I'm trying to transfer the last of us into the internal PS3ISO folder using multiman

The full name of the iso is: The Last of Us [BCUS98174].iso

Anticipating your response! :)

Edit: I renamed the iso from The Last of Us [BCUS98174].iso to just The Last of Us.iso, I'm doing the transfer now, to see if it will work.

Edit 2: Can you also use pen drives over 1tb to store and play your backups? I have another pen drive here which is over 1tb and I'm thinking of using it instead of this external hard drive which has very limited space. I was gonna use it for work purposes but since I'm still quarantined, I think I'll just use it for the ps3 if it's possible. What are the pros and cons of using a pen drive compared to using an external hard drive?

Edit 3: It still did not work despite renaming the file. Still got the copy error when it hit the 20% mark

I don't recommend USB drives for storing games of that size because they die faster than HDD's and are incapable of constant read/write data.

Did you try to run prep ISO before transferring it over? See if that works.

Ah, not yet. I'll try. But I was under the impression that you only use prepiso if you're going to play the game off of the external hard drive. Or if the game you want to play doesn't appear anywhere in your ps3

That's exactly what it's for, but it also helps with detecting the drive itself elsewhere.

No, PrepISO has nothing to do with accessing hard drives from programs like Irisman. Nowadays, Iris Manager forks (like Irisman and ManaGunZ) use their own standalone library for NTFS (detection and read/write access). Only MultiMan (and wMM, for some non-integrated functions or when auto-scan is disabled) require PrepISO for detecting ISO files in NTFS drives and such.

You could try using ManaGunZ to transfer your files, to see if it fixes your issue.

Edit: ManaGunZ allows you to open multiple file-manager windows to transfer your files, but I would recommend not doing so for now. The latest official release (v1.40) has a bug that may freeze you console if you use multiple windows to transfer your files. For now, only open one window and work with that.

Weird, then where would this copy error come from? I've had it before and somehow fixed it. My initial thought was because of the file size.

I was then able to copy Ratchet and Clank tools of destruction to the internal hard drive which was 20 GB.

Ok I will try this after AlxRhine's suggestion and will keep you guys posted.

Doing this right now. Will give you an update as to what will happen afterwards.

Additional question about using the flash drive, if I'm getting this correctly, the reason why you don't recommend using a usb flash drive is because of lower life span as well as read and write capacities? What if I'm going to use the usb flash drive (pen drive) just for the sole purpose of playing the backup games from it?

Also, I tried to transfer using managunz and it did not work, stopped at around 6 gb

Thanks for the help guys, really appreciate it!

Anticipating your responses! :D

Yes, the shelf life is relatively low. Also, playing the backups on it is where the read/write data comes into play. Eventually your games will slow down, or freeze, or get hit with the "system software could not be run correctly" Message.
Also, I fear it's a problem with your Storage device. Try the different one you mentioned if it's not already NTFS.

I have tried mana gunz, irisman as well as multiman to transfer the iso file but it's not letting me. Is there something I'm doing wrong? The external hard drive appears to be working just fine when I play the last of us off of it. Not sure why it's doing this. Any other method I can try?

using the other flash drive will be my last resort if needed since it's a company issued flash drive and is meant to be used for work, thanks for the suggestion.

Update:

Hi guys, My brother sent me his 500 gb external drive, as soon as I received I immediately checked if it's on ntfs and it was. I placed every single thing that I worked on the new 500 gb external ntfs hard drive but the ps3 is not even detecting it. Do I have to do something separately on this new 500 gb ntfs external hard drive for it to show like the other ntfs that I had?

Update: Found the problem, the new ntfs drive needed to be on MBR format so I had to convert it, it's now working 100%

For anyone else who's having the same problems like I did, if you're reading from the future and if you're like me who's not confident or doesn't know what he's doing or really new to the scene, here is a complete list of the things I've done. I hope this will help you too.

1. Updated the PS3's custom firmware into Evilnat 4.88
2. Updated multiman, webman to the latest versions
3. Downloaded Irisman and prepiso. Installed them into the ps3. Note: prepiso will be used so your ps3 can scan for undetected ntfs drive
4. Download ps3 iso tools <--- This will be used on your PC to convert folder files format games into ISO
5. Formatted my external hard drive from Fat32 into NTFS
6. Created a folder inside the NTFS named Games and PS3ISO. Note: Folder files go into Games and iso format goes into PS3ISO
7. Used ps3 iso tools to convert folder file games into iso and then placed them into the new ntfs drive's PS3ISO folder
8. Plug the ntfs drive into the ps3 once you're done with the transfers and conversions on your pc
9. run prep iso so your ps3 can scan for your new ntfs drive
10. Go to webman games, it should show your games listed.

If you're trying to use a new hard drive and formatted it into NTFS and it's still not showing, your new external hard drive may be in GPT format. Apparently, the PS3 cannot understand any drive that's on this format therefore you'll have to convert it into MBR. I used youtube as a reference to fix this but you will need to use your pc as an administrator to run the cmd command. Really easy actually, took me less than 10 mins to do so.

Giving thanks again to Coldheart, Atreyus, AlexRhine and last but not least, MrKnifeGod, you guys rock!!! Thank you for your patience and your guidance, especially if some of my questions are really basic or noobish. Thanks to y'all I now understand this console a lot better than I did on the first day that I was trying to do this.

Thanks again guys!
