As the old Flash Writer is no longer supported, I have to assume you are talking about the Flash Memory Manager on ** ** www.ps3xploit.net > Domain no Longer owned by team** (NEW URL = http://ps3toolset.com) > Domain no Longer owned by team** (NEW URL = http://ps3toolset.com.
It will be updated after 4.87 CFWs are released, until then there is no point because there would be nothing available to install after jailbreak.
 
I have also noticed on occasion filezilla will say connection closed, but is still transferring data. In this scenario, waiting for it to complete transfer gave me successful transfers. It is a bit jarring if/when you encounter this.

Also considering switching from snail transfers (wifi) to a cable, if only from the ps3 to the router. You will literally get around 8-10x the transfer speeds you have over ps3 wifi. You will limit your speed to your wifi connection from your pc to your router, but that can also be increased exponentially with a wired connection in most scenarios.

Also of note, turn down the number of transfers to 6 or less. This improves reliability of transfers quite a bit. I noticed usually around 4-5 transfers at a time if small files rapidly are usually fine, but for long transfers, i set it to single transfers at a time.

Also of note, filezilla is built for ftp servers, for which the ps3 implementation is nice, but not entirely as complete as a pc variant. rightfully so, but it can cause some issues with software not specifically tailored for the implementation being used. There was a ps3 ftp app that was made for pc to ps3 transfer via ftp, but i can't remember the name of it off hand. It did tend to work better than filezilla in most scenarios i've encountered.

No.
For a number of reasons I won't get into in this thread, I decided to keep things as they stand, there will be no PS3 Toolset v1.1 source code release or alternative offline exploitation method provided.
I may review that decision when I reach a later stage of the PS3 Toolset project.

The update is for PyPS3checker which is an excellent tool to check/verify PS3 flash dumps. The update is to add the integrity hashes for 4.87 firmwares.

The flash writer tool has been superseded by the Flash Memory Manager tool as part of the PS3 Toolset - which is still to be updated to support 4.87 OFW/HFW.
