PS2 How to boot into MOD chip Settings ????(Modchip- Super7 E17)

Hello Again guys once again I need your help. I have a PS2 SCPH 90004 slim (datecode 0D) . It has a modchip called Super7 E17 .
I have installed Funtuna but I have to go into memory card browser and backout to launch Funtuna.
I read that If I set my console to autoboot into Dev1 mode I can directly boot into funtuna but I can't seem to boot into any menu no matter what combination I press during booting the console.
Does anyone know the shortcuts to boot into this Modchip's Settings .Is it even possible at all to boot into the settings for this particular modchip???

I'm not familiar with that modchip, but iirc, the wiikey modchip on the wii required a separate disc with the configuration menu. I use a matrix infinity clone with my ps2, and I've only had a matrix infinity before that. that has a button press to enter the configuration menu. I'd google it.

edit: btw, I figure that that modchip might be some sort of clone for another modchip.

Do all modchips have the ability to boot into their specific menu??? I googled it and came across certain forum posts which say that it's possible unfortunately for me no luck till now

I have no idea. I only have experience with matrix infinity. they stopped producing them in like 2007, so infinity chips you get are clones. that's probably true about most chips now.

I did see a post about your modchip when I did a quick google search. someone said he thought you had to hold triangle at boot up to use dev1 mode. there's no config mode for that, possibly for the chip itself as well.

the only phat I've owned got disc read error after several years. I don't know how reliable each model is. that's a question for @TnA or @jolek . I don't know anything about soft modding a ps2 either, so they may be able to help if you have questions about that. I wouldn't waste your money on a premodded system.

  • Not all modchips have menu.
  • Not all modchips have DEV1 support.
  • Not all modchips firmware launching DEV1 mode in the same way.
  • You don't need Fortuna, if You put application under DEV1 (Dev.olution Mode 1 means that firmware will launch i.e "mc0:/BOOT/BOOT.ELF").
  • Not all DEV1 uses the same paths (i.e Ripper 2 Gold launching: "mc0:/\BOOT\BOOT.ELF").

I don't think my modchip has a menu or supports dev1. After perusing through many forums which had links to dead websites I came across a sort of user manual for my modchip on the wayback machine it states that my modchip only has PSX/PS2/ON OFF MODE .
I think i'll get a premodded fat or a 7000x/7700x with a IDE Mod. I have already ordered a USB HDD CASE and component cables for my 90004.
The reason I'm getting premodded systems is because modded systems are easier or the only option in India. I would say it is almost impossible to get a non modded system.
I will post a link later (the website is down right now ) to show IDE Modded 7000x/7700x systems for sale , the online store I'm thinking of getting it from even has 1 year default warranty for the consoles , you can see how popular they are

Then get one, which has a better modchip.

Even ModBo are better.
Very few ModBo even support booting directly from USB, etc.

@Berion explained it exactly!

"Matrix Chips" are not original Matrix at all in India... They are trash... Things like "Matrix 1.99", while there was NEVER a FW "1.99" for the ORIGINAL Matrix Infinity, but last one was 1.93!

Modbo 3.0 are not good either, because they can brick (AFAIR).

Get a ModBo 4 or 5 or 745 or so... You probably won't find any original Matrix Infinity, or DMS4 there.

In those countries, even the chips they install are utterly cheap trash.
Brazil has some halfway decent clones at least.

here is a link for a ide modded ps2 for sale in India (~Link removed~)
the black box is branded as RASILA ( which means "juicy" in hindi) the box serves as a power supply adapter and a hdd enclosure for the ps2 slim the on/off switch at the front is for the fan which cools the hdd there is another variant branded as " God of War" (Yes they come in their own boxes) and yes I know there are pirated games in there but there are no other options .
I will ask them what modchip is installed but they probably have a whole bunch of modded consoles sitting around and they'll just send me one .
These guys also sell a lot of other premodded stuff like multiman ps3's , rgh xbox 360's, PS2 fat with internal HDD etc
Unfortunately for people like me in India there are no other options apart from online sellers like these guys , we would be lost (especially guys like me living in small towns ) without them and they also charge quite a lot of money for a PS2 (140 dollars for a FAT 5000x with internal HDD)
I am seriously considering getting a FAT PS2 as the HDD they'll install in it will be a sata and not IDE which will make it easier for me to load my backups onto the HDD . The network adapter will probably be a fake GAMESTAR adapter with no network capabilities .

140$ for PS2 with NA? Why don't You buy on another shop/reseller/auction outside Your town or even country? Sorry to tell You but if all PS2 have installed modchip and it is so junky as Your current one, it is totally waste of money. You also cannot be sure about solder quality.

In my country You can get "clean PS2" with MC and installed FMCB for ~30$ (+ international sell cost similar). NA You can buy broken and buy SATA replacement from China.

Exactly! Even with import-fees and postage-cost, the price is WAAAAY lower than this ridiculous price they try to charge!

Do you know about China and India's current relation???? The reason I'm thinking about getting one from these guys is because after 2019 Aliexpress and other chinese Etailers has a very greyish legal status in India (chinese Apps banned including PUBG, Etailers also under suspicion) especially with constant border skirmishes and tensions. I live about 300 - 400 km from such a border so you can see why I don't have a lot of options . Sellers like these probably sneak their stuff in or have channels in customs department and with all the boot licking and bribes the price hike is a natural result .

I'm sorry but I don't. If not China then, You still have access to the rest of the planet Earth. Am I right? If not, well, there is nothing I can help in this manner of course. Last time when I experiencing such things was '90 and early '00 when we got out from Russian occupation, so peoples back then still have soviet mentality (packages/mails "from west" stealing, bribing, corruption etc.).

Btw.: I didn't meant to be "mean" with the "xyz is trash" comment. They do their stuff and the Matrix Infinity Firmware isn't updated anyway.

But they have more issues than others and sometimes settings can't be changed or the chip "bricks", etc.

Yeah, why rely on China?
There are a multitude of other places and like I wrote... Even with import-fees and postage, you'd get it cheaper elsewhere!

Where does Matrix infinity 1.93 saves the settings??

I mean the settings you can change from the menu you access by pressing :but tri: + :but cir: at boot.

If I press start for saving, it freezes. I thought the chip itself had some memory to where store the changes. Do I need some path on the memory card? Perhaps it is freezing 'cause it doesn't find the folder where to save.

I couldn't find a single discussion anywhere online about this simple thing, not even in the matrix infinity official pdf manual.
