PS3HEN ManaGunZ v1.35 for HEN + PS2 emu fix

I noticed that ManaGunZ have very annoying issue on HEN that later is hard to "diagnose" why this happened. So. ManaGunZ have cool feature to patch ps2 emulator to support configs, etc. But this feature work also on HEN, when user mount ps2 iso ManaGunZ do auto patching ps2_netemu. New user usually first run ps2 iso, then trying to search why is not working. Ok, ps2 ISO not work on HEN. Then she/he try pkg ps2, but had no idea that emu was actually patched, and there is no chance to run ps2 even from pkg now. So i recompiled ManaGunZ without PS2 emu patching function, and without config support.

ManaGunZ
There are no other changes than that, only ps2 emulator patching is removed by commenting out patch_PS2.
Tested only on CFW , since i don't have HEN. Now tested also on HEN, seems to work fine.

Fix PS2 Emulator
I also created pkg to fix ps2 emulator for HEN, nothing special there. It will just reinstall original emulator to dev_flash. So if you ever tried to mount PS2 ISO on HEN with ManaGunZ, use this pkg to fix emu. Then use ps2 games in ISO.BIN.ENC, or pkg format. Tested only on CFW , since i don't have HEN. Now tested also on HEN, seems to work fine.

Bro please i need this on hen 4.86

I just decrypted ofw 4.86 to check md5 of ps2 netemu. it's: 9F12B168034AC7C99DFFB186501A6F50
Im quoting you here to collect the info :)
For the record... PS3 OFW 4.84/dev_flash/ps2emu/ps2_netemu.self
MD5: 9F12B168034AC7C99DFFB186501A6F50

Im posting this because an easy way to diagnose this problem is with the filemanager integrated inside ManaGunZ
Browse to that path, select and mark the file (with square button), then triangle button and you will see an option to check the MD5
Same MD5 for 4.85 btw (i was checking it right now for curiosity sake)

So is the same MD5 4.84 up to 4.86 :encouragement:

So is there a fix coming in the near future for ManaGunZ to support iso.bin.enc games? Webman can do it, so it is possible.

Seriously though, why doesn't managunz support .bin.enc games yet? Webman and IrisMan both support it. And also scan and load games from game folder like Webman does.

It's in my todo list but as always with me, I work on it when I'm in the mood, I can't predict the futur.

There are 2 ways to play PS2 games in CFW PS3's, with the ISO/CONFIG encrypted... or decrypted

The "PS2 classics" format (with the ISO/CONFIG encrypted) was implemented first in CFW the only way to play PS2 games was by creating a "PS2 classics" format
A couple of years later it ws published the cobra source code, that allowed to play PS2 ISO/CONFIG in decrypted format

And later... it was published managunz... so... when managunz was written zar had to choose in between the 2 methods (it was needed to give priority to one of them to focus his efforts in a single thing) and he gave priority to the decrypted ISO/CONFIG because in some way is more handy than the "PS2 classics" and superceedes it

And thats how it stayed for long time, the fact is the CFW users doesnt have need to use the "PS2 classics" format... so there was almost zero requests to implement "PS2 classics" support in managunz
This order of priorities changed with HAN/HEN... the first time when there was really a need to implement "PS2 classics" support in managunz was with the release of HAN/HEN... since that time zar did show interests in completing this task, but he has been working in other features... eventually he could do it, but dont expect him to give any teaser of what he is working right now though... if it happens probably will happen without any previous advise

Edit:
Is also a matter of tactical implementations... if at some point is published a "CFW like" compatible with all PS3 models then nobody will use HAN/HEN anymore

I'm new to this and have a fat ps3, followed some YouTube tutorials and installed the newest PS3 hen, hfw, multiman and webman. But then installed managunz too and tried to play a ps2 game using it. It froze on the bullet screen. From what I gather managunz has overwritten the ps2 emulator file with one that is not compatible with hen and the fix file on this thread doesn't work with 4.87. I factory reset my ps3 today and installed everything again (except managunz) hoping it'd replace the emulator back to the original - but it didn't. How do I fix the ps2 emulator back to the way it was pre-managunz?

Managunz is not replacing the ps2 emu since some versions ago, so is not posible for that to happen to you... unless you are using an old managunz version

Anyway... if you want to see if your PS3 is affected by this problem what you need to do is to check the MD5 of ps2_netemu.self
If the MD5 is identical to what we have been mentioning in this thread it means you dont have that problem

*And btw, you should not use HEN in a PS3 fat

Wow, thank you. I will look into the md5, but assuming it is intact and I get the ps3 back to non hen factory self what should I be using instead if I'm fairly new to this and just want to be able to play some ps2 titles that are not available as classics using my fat ps3? I've gotten bleemsynch/retroarch going on my psclassic but that's about the extent of my technical history with modding consoles.

The only way to load a PS2 game backup in HEN is if you build a PKG with it following the requirements of a "PS2 classic" game, inside the PKG there is an ISO (encrypted), and optionally a CONFIG (also encrypted). There is a PC tool named "PS2 classics GUI" to prepare this kind of PKG's
But the actual managunz v1.38 doesnt have any feature related with the "PS2 classics" format

In a CFW there are 2 different ways to load a PS2 game backup... the "PS2 classics" fiormat i mentioned above (where the game is a PKG file containing encrypted ISO/CONFIG)... and another way where you just need to place the ISO and CONFIG files (not encrypted) in path dev_hdd/PS2ISO

I guess the method you was trying was the second, but doesnt works in HEN
If you install a CFW and you try again with managunz it should work fine, though

-----------------
The other doubt you had about a posible corruption in the emulator file itself... there are several ways to check it
1) Use a filemanager in PS3, copy the file to USB, connect the USB to PC and check the MD5 of the file in PC
2) Use a FTP, copy the file to PC and check the MD5 of the file in PC
3) Use managunz in PS3, enter the filemanager, select the file (with square button), then display the file options (with triangle button), and select the option "properties"

As said... the MD5 should be identical to the ones we has been mentioning in this thread

Thank you so much for the help. Got my first ps2 game working.
