PS3 MGS Phantom Pain

I ripped MGS phantom pain using irisman and the iso fails to install game data. Ripped again in folder format, moved to PC and used makeps3iso to create the iso. Still the same issue in all managers. Tried using genps3iso with same results.

Right now I'm transferring the iso to my internal HDD to see if it works. The game is checked against IRD and all is good.

If this doesn't work, I'd be happy if anyone could give me some advice. I know I can use the disc, but why do that if I can use my backup and spare both disc and laser..?

Yeah I have just run into this issue with this game last night. Used to work fine as an ISO but last night it refused to boot at all as an ISO or JB folder format. The only issue I used to have was the odd time it would refuse to boot with the SYSCALS disable so I can do the FOB missions, which I am glad to say the PS3 server for this is still running so online features still work.

Was on DEX refused to boot, converted back to CEX again refused to boot, resigned the game to 4.20, nothing.

Used the disc on DEX refused to boot, converted again back to CEX and the disc booted. Confused af, the PS3 hasn't been touched in months so nothing has been changed, at the moment I am just using the disc but I am tempted to just get it off steam for PC to save faffing on, plus the better graphics on PC, as you can get both GZ and TTP for about £25 but then all the progress I did would be wasted if I cannot find a way to import the save.

The only thing I didn't try was resigning the game to 3.55 so you could try this with the ISO.

It's been on my external working fine for several years, but I remember there was certain steps you had to take to get it to work it wouldn't just work like other games. I can't remember what I did though I'm trying to find a tutorial.

The site I used to help get it to work no longer exists, google's not helping either.

Try archive.com, there might be backups of the website that doesn't exist anymore

IIRC MGSV (both GZ and TPP) had an issue that MGS4 had. There was something quirky about the eboot or something...

Edit: Found a post by sandugas, where he states:
MGSV blurays are one of the few "rare" problematic games, there was a time when all PS3 tools used to convert games to ISO was incompatibles with MGS5 (and a special edition of MGS4 too). It was imposible to create an ISO of this bluray games because was not working normally

In PS3 scene basically there are only 2 tools to create an ISO for PS3 (and a lot more that internally uses one of the 2 tools im going to mention)
-makeps3iso (open source)
-genps3iso (closed source, created by E3 ODE hardware manufactures and abandoned when the ODE bussiness was not profitable)

Makeps3iso was updated to fix this problem, but genps3iso not

Sounds like you need the latest version of makeps3iso by estwald\hermes.

I have used archive.org but you can't like search the entire website that doesn't exist anymore can you? I don't have the exact link I would need to search the site and it doesn't exist anymore.

Should read the thread from maxconsole it seems relevant.

If you put the root domain name in "xyz.com", as long as the page your going to was also backed up, you can just browse the webpage as if it was fully up and running

Just when I wanted to ask someone if MGS4 now runs perfect without the need of applying any fixes, damn. If I remember well, the pkg versions are prolematic too, aren't they?

I used PS3 ISO TOOLS v2.2 to generate the ISO with makeps3iso. It doesn't work from internal hdd either.

Really wierd since it passed IRD check.

All the makeps3iso.exe versions distributed with all the rudi rastelli's "PS2 ISO TOOLS" versions are outdated
What you need to do is to download the latest version of makeps3iso.exe and copy it inside the "PS2 ISO TOOLS"
Then create the ISO in "PS2 ISO TOOLS" by selecting the option makeps3iso

Thank you. This worked.
Actually just remembered that you gave the same advice once before, but since then I've went through a couple of HDD's and totally forgot about it.

Thanks for the confirmation :encouragement:

The latest version of makeps3iso.exe have a bugfix specific to solve this problem, the number of games affected by that problem was small... anyway is better to use the latest version of makeps3iso.exe with all games because is intended to superceed all previous makeps3iso.exe versions

I have the PS3 ISO TOOLS and i used genps3iso because makeps3iso didn't work for me for this game. I would like to have the last version of makeps3iso but i don't know where to download it.

This is what you need: [These tools were included with irismanager 4.x]

https://mega.nz/file/WxMllKQJ#1bFKrldDQzh_8WcRz-zT-6gRSzZM8cXQf21EFP_mMKg

Then just replace "makeps3iso.exe" in here with the one in PS3 ISO Tools and also you can replace "fixps3iso.exe" in PS3 ISO Tools with "patchps3iso.exe", just rename patchps3iso.exe to fixps3iso.exe and swap them as well, this is what I did.

So make sure you check the games files with the IRD before and after you build the ISO to make sure its 100% correct or you will end up with issues > PS3 ISO Rebuilder has the ability to do this so you can check on PC before transffering the built ISO back to your PS3.

For me I get a constant partially corrupted file now, the exact same one each time, when ripping MGS:TTP so the IRD fails the MD5 checksum on this one file and causes a black screen for me now as its one of the games SPRX files lol, was going to get another disc, mine is a pre ordered Day One Edition of the game I bought brand new when the game was first released, but I just ended up getting the game on PC instead lol. £25 for both MGS V GZ and TTP with all DLC on Steam, bargin lol.

You can get it from the download links of the first post of this thread https://www.elotrolado.net/hilo_aplicacion-iris-manager-v3-00_1862716

If i remember right, the files you need are inside a zip named "pc iso tools with source v1.97" (or something like that)
When you compare the contents of it with the files inside the "PS3 ISO TOOLS" made by rudi rastelli... you are going to see that there are only 2 files with the same name makeps3iso.exe and extractps3iso.exe
You need to overwrite both with the new versions

The other (named patchps3iso.exe or fixps3iso.exe ...i dont remember) is something i never worryed, this is intended to resign all executable files of the game (EBOOT.BIN ELF, SPRX, etc) with keys used by old firmware versions (usually for people with 3.55 CFW), but nowadays this is not needed

eh..? Just more or less repeat everything I just said above why don't you... the DL link I posted is that folder from irismanager you just mentioned.... I really don't get it when people do this as its completely pointless.

Im giving him the original download link of the files, i was checking the original thread where this files was uploaded trying to compare with your download link and it was not matching, i didnt cared to compare all them but anyway, at that point i had the link ready to paste it here

Also, because what you explained about renaming a file is something not needed to do, we just need makeps3iso.exe and extractps3iso.exe
Actually... if you dont plan to use the PS3 ISO TOOLS made by rudi rastelli to extract the contents of ISO the only thing needed is makeps3iso.exe

You can also replace the "patchps3iso.exe"... just rename it to "fixps3iso.exe". If it isn't renamed it must be executed as admin because it has "patch" in its name (stupid win8 :banghead:).
^^^^^^^

Just repeating some advice by the Dev that made the app ....

i was checking the original thread where this files was uploaded trying to compare with your download link and it was not matching

That's because its from one of my cloud servers were I uploaded the files, as I do a lot of tools and such to back them up, from this post by you in this thread....
