PS2 [MX4SIO/SIO2SD] SD Card Adapter and SD-driver for the PS2 SIO2 interface

This is the ultimate way of copying games in usb or sd card I think. The fragmentation is nothing for PS2 if you copy files in right way. I always make a folder on pc and put all opl files/folders and games in it and check the size of the folder to not exits out of my drive capacity. At the end I set opl manager to that folder, download arts and set know modes and when everything got prepared I do a select all copy and paste in root of the drive.
Seems a lot easier to just defrag the files in the VMC folder. Is there some material advantage to having perfectly unfragmented files?

I went through and set up VMCs on a per-publisher basis and defragged the folder and it all seems to be working just fine. It's not that much of a pain, but it's one more thing to have to remember whenever I shuffle games around in my card.

In English via G-Trad :

Create your VMCs with an old OPL for example OPL v0.9.3, format your SDcards in exFAT (or FAT, it's as you want).
Once done, on the freshly formatted SDcard, immediately create (by a PC) a VMC folder there and paste there first the "generic_0.bin" then the "generic_1.bin". After that, create ALL the folders needed to run OPL and fill them with your data.

This is how I do it and it always works.

To manage my VMCs (which are 8, 16, 32 or 64MB) you can use the game "Gran Turismo 3" which has an excellent manager of "Memory Card" whether Physical or Virtual and in the Memory Slot you want. You can make a mix of any type, it is indifferent to him.

Dummy Data removal to reduce ISO size.
Anyone have any advice on a free ISO editor than can handle all sizes of ISO. I have used the free trial version of UltraISO to succesfully delete dummy data from games such as Pitfal Mayan Adventure and Rubble Roses to reduce ISO size with no impact on game play, however it cannot handle Sonic Mega Collection Plus. (I learned of UltraISO from The Coleco Colem threads for which it works perfectly). Anyburn does not seem to produce a working ISO.

Apologies! FAT32 @ 64k for BDM3, exFAT @ 32k for BDM4. Just read a suggestion to format in 16k which I'm doing now to test Ridge Racer V.

Also, ZSO works great with BDM4 (my partner tried CATZ and DOGZ with perfect success).

Finally, the one game I couldn't get working with BDM4 is Star Ocean 3 (Disc 1).
Got around to formatting to exFAT with 16k clusters. Ridge Racer V still has stuttering audio (even ripped a new ISO) with BDM4 and a Samsung Evo Plus 256Gb SD Card.
Tekken 5 is also quite bad with audio. Guess it's a Namco thing?

Kingston Canvas Select Plus SD card here. 128GB, 128kb allocation size. BDM4. The Japanese versions of Tekken 4, Tekken 5, Soul Caliber 2, Ridge Racer, all work fine. Smooth FMVs, smooth music playback, flawless loading, just like from a disc.

Anyway, anyone know how I can get Vampire Darkstalkers Collection working? I tried a few different settings, but it never proceeds past the initial "Now Loading..." screen.

@Maximus32 also uploaded BDM4 to the PS2-Scene-Discord.
I'll go ahead and attach it here for the sake of testing and comparing with BDM3 and the official OPL Beta-builds.
What is the difference between the "regular" OPL beta version Beta-1917-7d786b3 and the custom BDM4 version Beta-1917-7d786b3-BDM4 ?
Official OPL's github have info that there is already support for MX4SIO in regular versions.
Is it (BDM-version) just pre-set default custom user settings or something more? If it's more than a
pre-set settings, then why doesn't it go straight to the official beta version?

I was wondering the same thing, but with the latest version (Beta-1938) it doesn't see anything on my SD Card anymore...

Weird, I had the stutter issue on RRV with my Lexar card on BDM4 (It was fine on BDM3), but then I used a 64GB Samsung Evo Plus and I get no stuttering on BDM4 either with 16KB or 32KB clusters on exFAT. Tekken 5 is fine as well. Do you have a different card you can try?

I believe it's just that checksumming has been disabled so that it works better on non-deckards

it's certainly none of my business, but something like enabling/disabling checksum checking is logically best viewed as a simple option in the settings. Kind of like "checksum verification - enabled/disabled".

I think it was just a mod for people using M4SIO on phats

UltraISO is NOT suitable for PS1-games nor PS2-games! It breaks the LBA, the PS2-Logo and might even create an image with wrong filesystems. Use shrinker tool (Genie) instead!
If it doesn't help shrinking, you've got to do it manually and should do it with the proper tools like IML2ISO or whatever.

Checksumming is disabled, which increases speed on FAT and 70k Slim, but it decreases card and game-compatibility (in-game).

We already talked about this on the PS2-Scene-Discord and we all would like that, but someone would need to take the time to do it.

Cheers for the info! Still stutters for me (though the Jap version of Ridge Racer V doesn't crackle, but still has periodic "hitches" which freeze the whole game).
Funnily enough, I play PSX games off USB, decided to put Ridge Racer V on USB and that runs flawlessly through OPL. So it's probably a card thing. My Samsung card is definitely legitimate so who knows. Maybe I should run a speed test on it!

I've been catching up on this thread after being away for a couple of months. BDM4 sounds exciting! I didn't see any clarifying comments on if it can still do game saves to physical memory cards. Can someone quickly confirm either way?

Yes, it can use physical memory cards just fine.

Been doing some testing. MC2SIO, Kingston 128gb microSD card, EXFAT format. Changing the allocation size doesnt change anything with regards to how any game performs. I get the same smooth performance in most games (for example, Tekken 5 Japanese version FMVs,) and the same stutters and failed loads in other games (Zero 2 Japanese version FMVs.) Everything performs exactly the same. So if anyone is trying this and not getting better results, you are not alone.

Hi all. I was hoping someone could point me in the direction I need to go to purchase an official MX4SIO from the clever fellows who designed this (if they sell them).

I'd love to contribute to testing etc

Thank you for your help

It's an open project, there is no "official" hardware version. If you're concerned about build quality or differences affecting performance, unfortunately there just isn't enough data out there about this. All I can say is that I'm using one of the supposedly cut-back models which was widely advertised on YouTube, and it works great for me.

@kibato9999 and @nex86 ...Is your PADEMU settings = "Global" and Enabled = "On" ?

What model number is your slim PS2?

MX4SIO with BDM(1) or with BDM3 works for 99% of people here who have tried, so there must be something at your ends. Use GUiFormat and format your SD cards to FAT32 and 16K clusters.

Just a suggestion, try this...

First, install (only) OPL v1.1.0 on your FMCB memory card, then load up OPL v1.1.0 as you normally would for USB games...

(Once on the OPL page where it shows the list of your games)

(1) press the "Start" button on your controller to enter "Menu"
(2) then click on "Settings" and check you have these settings below
(3) "USB Device Start Mode = Auto"
(4) "Default Menu = USB Games"
(5) "Save Changes"

Now return to the list of games and press the "Triangle" button on your controller to enter "Options" and check you have these settings:-

(6) click "Configure PADEMU"
(7) "Settings Mode = Global"
(8) "Enable Pad Emulator = On"
(9) now go back and "Save Changes"

Once all that has been done...

For SCPH-10000 to SCPH-700XX ...install OPL 1627 (BDM) on your FMCB memory card.

For SCPH-75XXX (or higher) ...install OPL 1629 (BDM3) on your FMCB memory card.

You can download OPL 1627 (BDM) or OPL 1629 (BDM3) here at the bottom of Maximus32's post: https://www.psx-place.com/threads/m...-ps2-sio2-interface.29210/page-15#post-275928

Now with MX4SIO inserted, via your PS2, load OPL Beta 1629 (or 1627) to your OPL games list, and see if this worked for you.

:D TnA will kick my ass for these suggestions, but you can try them anyway, you have nothing to lose and it could work.

Thanks this worked for me on a Samsung Evo Select

but how do i make the 2nd Opl show up in the menu after boot? Thanks

I have had a nightmare getting this setup have used multiple SD Cards, OPL builds, & formats FAT32, exFAT etc and seen TnA's link for OPNPS2LD-v1.2.0-Beta-1917-7d786b3-BDM4 and that finally worked and showed games why is that? thanks mate. Thought maybe my card was busted but no other OPL build I can find will display games even the latest 1.2.0 beta releases does not detect games with BDM. Whats the best build someone could link to for the older non dekard PS2 fat/slims?

Also when you guys says to set cluster to 16/32 is it 16/32 kilobytes or 16384/32768 kilobytes? cheers.
