MY hard drive died, can i fix this?

yep that is the correct firmware, don't worry about the qa flag for now. try the rex cobra first, then try qa flag again. if that still doesn't work, you don't HAVE to do it but its recommended, you would have to use the 999 downgrader go back to 3.55.4 then enable qa flag, then i think you can go back to rebug 4.70.1 somone else feel free the chime in. I think the QA might work once you are on rebug rex though.

I have downloaded and copied REBUG_4.70.1_REX_PS3UPDAT.PUP to the USB stick. When trying to flash i get again 80029CCA

In the toolbox, go all the way over to utilities and make sure toggle QA flag says enabled. then make sure you have a FAT32 flash drive in the right usb port and click export flash to file and export flash to file. Then you will want to dump eid root key. they system will beep and reboot. then in the toolbox under dex/cex click rewrite target id in flash

When i go to CEX/DEX it says CEX/DEX functions not available, install rebug rex edition to access these functions

error 80029CCA is a firmware installation error, while downloading the UPDATE it corrupted(Did not finish).
Go into recovery mode(press Ps3 power button hold til it shuts off...press and hold again and wait for 2 beeps and let go ..RECOVERY MODE :).) restore the system.
Download the CEX UPDATE again ...and make sure it goes 100%. Then apply the update again.
Hope that works and helps ya...if na ya might ave to downgrade.
Good luck Padawan.

Ok, done that. The update slowly goes up to 50% then the Blu Ray drive start spinning up and the progress indicator jumps to 100% and after that the console reboots.

Ok, step by step.

Now LV2 Kernel is CEX, Target Type is CEX. When i try to update to flash REBUG_4.70.1_REX_PS3UPDAT (after renaming it) it copies the files to the hard drive, then the update starts and around 38% it jumps to 100% and after the reboot i am still on 4.70 firmware

Toggle QA Flag is on enabled now. What am i still doing wrong?

Which tool should i use, multiman or is there anything better?

Actually, you should be good to go now. If the firmware install said 100% and it actually booted up you should now be on 4.70.1 CEX (REX) but now you can install any firmware you want (as long as its not a DEX firmware, but really they are uncommon). As of now, I think your best bet is to spoof if you need psn access, but all should be working.

I like multiman personally, however, due to webman I haven't found a need to have it for a long time so I usually just run a vanilla rebug install (other than fake save owner on).

Thanks a lot again. I will get myself now the multiman. The console won't be used online so this is not a problem. Is there a easy way that i copy games onto the internal hard drive?

Yep, in multiman, if you put your disc in the drive it will show up and you can rip it to the harddrive, or any other location you want to.

Zar Why the dislike?

Are you able to backup disc games with your manager as well? I have never tried it your manager as I usually don't have a backup manager on my system at all as all my games are on net0. Can your manager read from that directly like webman/multiman?

Ok, for some odd reason when i copy a game to a USB stick and insert it into the left USB port multiman finds it and i can copy it propery and even start after that. BUT, when i connect a USB drive the PS3 does not recognize it. It is a 500GB FAT32 drive
