Dear friends,

Im new here. Ive watched many tutorials in Youtube how to jailbreak my PS3. I Have a Fat Ps3 that is blocked.

Since it has many years I dont use, when I turn on, it updated automatically to the last 4.87 official firmware.

Now I want to jaibreak it.

Ive download the HFW 4.87 file, put in folders PS3 -> UPDATE -> HFW_4.87.1_PS3UPDAT.PUP

When I tried to use the locally updated, it says: "Didnt find the update date" . the Pendrive is in FAT32.

The pendrive is working, I put music and video, and it open with no problems.

How can I solve it? Really thanks!

Hi there and welcome to the forum!

You have to actually name the file PS3UPDAT.PUP ; remove everything in front of that! :) Also, please follow MrMario's tutorial (by 'follow', I mean do not skip not even a second of it) here if you want to install HEN (adapt to 4.87 where needed):

I don't know your exact PS3 model, but since you said it's a fat, you probably can go for a custom firmware as well, if you want.. an advantage would be, for example, that you don't have to start anything manually (like you have to enable HEN every time you power up your console) and I'm sure there are many others, but I'm kind of a noob, so I can't tell you a lot more.

However, here's MrMario's tutorial on Jailbreaking and then installing a CFW (Custom FirmWare). . Please follow any of them very closely and adapt to 4.87 where needed.

Good luck! I can confirm BOTH tutorials work perfectly on 4.87 since I followed them myself during the last week.

Hi!

Really thanks. Ive tried to do the CFW tutorial, but in the end still doesnt work.

I could not find the 4.87 REBUG file, so I downloaded the COBRA (https://www.psx-place.com/threads/cfw-4-87-2-evilnat-cobra-cex.32057):
Download: CFW EVILNAT 4.87.2 COBRA [CEX]
MD5: 69F7F3A5DE1F85EFD8E79E8122C73D05

There are many files in the page, I just downloaded the first one. Should I download another?

I did the same steps after, and everything went well, just the APLLIED LOADED PATCH part, the Tutorial took some minutores, while, my it was instantly. I guess this is the problem... I think the problem is with Cobra.

When it finish the local update, it doenst appear the Folder - Package Manager, so I cant install the homebrew.

Could you help me? Is it possible for me to install exactly as the tutorial, even if my firmware is 4.87?

Thanks!!

You're very welcome. Indeed, I think Evilnat's CFW is the only one right now based on 4.87. It is possible for you to revert to an older firmware (like 4.86) and install CFW released for that, but I am not sure what the steps are.

Regarding the few minutes vs almost instantly, I think this is @bguerville's magic used in the latest version of the BgToolset.. I also noticed it was VERY fast for me compared to what MrMario was getting in the video. But this is just the patch that allows you to install the custom firmware you just mentioned. I can't figure out what you did next. How did you try to install Evilnat's CFW? You'll only get the package manager AFTER you install that, as far as I'm aware.

So, to be more precise, just tread Evilnat's CFW as MrMario treats Rebug (WARNING: I highly recommend installing it from Safe Mode if "Updating from Storage" does not work ; happened in my case). Rebug hasn't (yet?) been updated to 4.87.

That's correct - up to now the only 4.87 CFW has been Evilnat's Cobra CFW along with its noBD and noBT variants for consoles with damaged Blu-ray Disc drives and/or Bluetooth modules. You can install a lower CFW version (as low as the 'Minimum Applicable Firmware Version' as shown in the Flash Memory Manager within the PS3 Toolset, once you have enabled the system's QA flag. There are a few tools for this - I personally used habib's standalone toggler but you should also be able to use Rebug Toolbox to do it, even if not on Rebug CFW.

@shucrut Just to be clear, did you manage to successfully apply the Flash Memory Manager patch? From your post I am not sure exactly what your situation is, but it seems as if you managed to patch your flash but are having trouble installing the Evilnat CFW you downloaded? If you could please clarify this that would be helpful :)
