PS2 [Open PS2 Loader] Game Bug Reports

The real stutter problem we are talking about is incredibly noticeable! It happens at the same points as normal, but the game actually freeze up for a moment. I can't reproduce the problem 'cause once solved it won't happen anymore using the same Ps2/Na/HDD configuration.

But every time I set a new HDD the problem arise again. It arise after I changed the BITFUNX board with the current maxdiypower too. It arise the stutter and the non working pad problem too. But after solved, the problem does not reappear anymore until a HW configs change.
Sounds like problems with HDD fragmentation or something similar.

I wish I could check this out on my setup, with the retail disc. However, I simply can't right now. I'm broke at the moment and can't afford even one of the cheap GT4 discs. I'll be sure to check it out as soon as I can.

BTW! I have Gran Turismo 3 PAL and the FMVs stutter with 0.9.3 unless the right DMA mode is selected. IIRC, UDMA1 worked the best for me. It stuttered if the DMA mode was either too fast or too slow.

I never need any MODE with GT3. FMV doesn't stutter at all.

The GT4 thing have nothing to do with fragmentation. It's just a pulldown "micro-stutter". @TnA analyzed the videos. These previews aren't recorded at 60fps (like the intro i.e.), neither at 25/30, but 24fps, like films.

The real stuttering problem too can't be related to fragmentations, 'cause as I said I had it and solved with every HDD just cold loading the HDD modules with ULe (or FMCB configurator).

I ain't no trustin' some strangers on the net, shunny.

Maybe I can borrow a Phone capable of 60fps recording from a friend. But it won't happen very soon.

It stutters like hell on my setup, unless I use the correct DMA mode.

I suspect it's the same with GT4, but I have no means of checking it out right now.

In case you hadn't noticed yet: we all get vastly different results based on our setups, no the OPL version we're using. That's why I would appreciate if you stopped talking in absolutes here.

There's no need to be so touchy :P

Anyway, what about fragmentation. I Always make sure to make 100% unfragmented installations. What about you??
It maybe could make some differences. Even if I remember that one time @sp193 said that fragmentation doesn't matter if I remember well. It was a Topic at PSX-SCENE, I see if I can find it.

I don't use a large HDD to begin with. I figured it would be too much of a hassle to handle large game lists, so I just settled on 80 GB. I can fit about 25 games on that and it's not like I can possibly need more in a given period. I actually complete video games, not just switch them around in short bursts. For example, if I start GT4, it will be for 100% completion, so I'll be playing just that one game for a month or two.

However, I only install games with sp193's HDGL Installer and always check it with the HDDCK app, also by sp193. I never get any issues that way.

@Peppe90: I liked the IGR-Post on the last site, because it was correct(ly explained and 'imagined')... Yes, i agree to all of that post.

Regarding the talk(ing) about 'absolutes'.:
Well, he/she is right about that!

He/She made that error him-/herself before (and actually most people do, because it is logical to assume on a 'first shot', that it should work the same on all setups) and he/she obviously learned from it...

But I understand that it sometimes feels like a grumpy grandfather/grandmother is talking/writing. (NO pun or insult intended... I am just a bit kidding!)

Does anyone have the original disc at hand? I can get it (from a carton/package, where my collection is currently stored), but am not sure if it will be today... probably rather tomorrow...

Fragmentation of games on HDD (not the files, but how the partitions could be scattered around the disc) CAN have an influence, but it is very unlikely to cause SIGNIFICANT things...
But it could, for example if a head has to jump back and forth quite often, due to it possibly streaming from one part of the game and 'on the other side' loading some other game-chunks from another part which wouldn't be 'too far away' from each other on a disc, but could be scattered along the whole surface of the HDD...

Oh! ...and there WAS a fragmentation-issue, which caused OPL to not recognize the second layer of the DVD9-Games, if that layer was either not continuous or at least physically/logically placed 'after' where the first layer was placed! I am not sure when it got fixed, but it is a rather old fix. ;)

Well... My SSD doesn't have any seeks, so it/fragmentation and possible issues based on these, don't apply for that.

Oh... and @Grahf's post made me laught, so it got a like as well, lol. :D

I never had much time for playing… I like the having all games at hand. Especially when a friend/relative comes home and he/she can find every game he/she played/remembers :D

Plus I've fun testing and trying to make things to work :D

Are you talking about you?? (...I'm saying 'cause You're the only one without gender specification in the profile :D )

It seems I'm the only one with the original game at hand.

Thank you for all the effort you put into testing. I do hope you will eventually find the time to actually play these games, though.

I started Xenogears last year (yet to finish), soon after I started Siren and FFX. I plan to finish these games soo or later :D

Ooooops!
I mean HIM and i am also male...

I could have spared a few seconds, by simply clicking on his Handle...

It seems I'm the only one with the original game at hand.
So? Does it 'stutter' as well from the disc?

There are "absolutely" only 2 ways to not fragmented the games:

1. only installing games until the HDD is filled up
2. installing, then if space is needed, always delete starting from the last installed game.

@Grahf You do so??

Not really. I just install stuff with the app by sp193 and then check with his HDDCK. I don't have any issues since then. I had fragmentation issues with WinHIIP.

WinHIIP INTENTIONALLY tries to fit games into some of the empty 'slots', when a game has been deleted 'in-between'!

You should copy the PAL version to your HDD and then make a comparison with a steady camera. Do not compare PAL and NTSC games.

Would you mind dumping and installing your PAL-Version and compare that against the disc's behavior?

Edit: @Grahf was faster.
