I don't get it, really!

For years a hack was published that does exact the same. And the sounds could be copyrighted, as they are identically with the original sony files...

That "Hack" doesn't work on newer CFW's. I tried it, it refused to work on REBUG 4.80.1 or ones after. It just crashed my PS3. In fact non of the "hacks" I found from the past work on newer CFW's and half of the links don't work anymore. There's only one other one that does work on newer CFWs other than mine.

And copyright?? Then REBUG CFW's must be breaching this as they use the same coldboot sounds as the original in OFW. I highly doubt they are bothered about a little "ding" bit of sound. As a games dev we were not bothered by such things, just piracy of the games we made, Plus MultiMAN use's the Windows ME start up sounds on boot, so this must be the same.

And as for copyright there is a term under " fair use" for the usage of such things or half of the PS3 hacking scene would be subjected to civil and criminal charges of copyright breaches.

I have nothing more to say on it, don't like it... don't use it. It's for people who don't want to have PS3's damaged or soft bricked by hacks from years ago that don't work anymore believing that they still do. If you check the dev wiki it will tell you the alterations made.

Firmware files are released to the public for installing on the console.
These files where taken from those public releases and installed on a PS3.

No copyright violations far as i am concerned.
XMB mods have to be updated, They are not on for all.

Please no back seat moderating. Use the report button.rather then clogging threads

Good for you.... don't care...

The main point of me doing this was so it was in one handy place, so people don't have to search through loads of SHADY, and dodgy sites for any that MIGHT work, there's only one other site I trust for this sort of thing, and there isn't one on this sit for people who use it. And there was another reason for it being released, updated.

The patches are on the dev wiki for all to find, I did this pure and simply because I could.

PS. There always one kretin who doesn't get the point in anything and got to twist about it like a child.

PPS. Also on REBUG D-REX and....???? your point being.... ???

Don't let it get to you lad. It's a handy little resource you've added, and a safe and reliable way to restore the original coldboot with the original files and step by step instructions on how to do so. Nice one. :)

Thank's lad,

Am not guna let it lol, As a games dev we used to get more insulting stuff than this on a daily basis emailed in :D HAHA he's probably playing the games I helped to make and also been playing the games the person in my family have been making across all the platforms for the last 30 years and still does, now head graphics dev of a games dev company here in the UK :D and some of them have been rated as some of the best games of all time :D

I am just adding a little extra to an already massive contribution to the gaming scene :D

More XMB stuff to come, from basic stuff to others, and game graphics mods....

Dope, like before Christmas or something I was thinking about fixing the Original Gameboot but there was no solid guide or anything just things about extracting from OFW below 2.80 or something like that and I just forgot it cause it seemed to complicated for me, I am sure I would understand it better now but I don't have to since you just did it for me. :-p Thanks Mate :D

Your welcome,

The sprx from that lower of a FW version most likely won't work on newer one's. This one was taken from 4.80 OFW and patched or was it 4.82?? cannot remember lol but it works lol..... Been meaning to update to overflow for an hour to see if it works on 4.84 or am going to wait till I finish my CFW's base and test it on that. Might just do overflow to be quicker lol. if it doesn't work I'll have to take the new sprx from the 4.84 ofw pup and patch that for 4.84 CFW, but am willing to bet that this one will still work lol.

I believe "vendor" is another important one. it should be a vsh module. I'm not sure what might happen if you change that. "template" should use the credentials of the original file, so it won't matter if done that way.

Ahh this brings back memories @pinky should remember this :D

Great job lad, btw will this only activate in the PlayStation3 Game Format, or PS1 and PS2 as well? If i recall correctly, which i do, the older firmwares till 2.80, the game boot only activated on PS3 format, PS1 and PS2 displayed a fading wave, similar to 3.00 firmware.

I would love to replicate, but my programing knowledge its beyond 0 :D

It should bring up the Gameboot when you launch anything, PS3 and PS2 defo works but its should bring it up on everything really, PS3, PS2, PS1, PSP, Apps.

Am looking into activating the game boot cycle where you can launch 5 different gameboots. But have them display different ones depending on what you launch:

1. PS3 Logo > PS3 Games
2.PS2 Logo > PS2 Games
3.PSone Logo> PSX games
4.PSP Logo> PSP games
5. Apps and anything else

Plus having the wave change depending on it as well. I can already make the wave change now to different colours. eg the cold boot has starts black screen with a half red & clear wave that fades into the coldboot and the red more or less highlights the REBUG logo. When the gameboots comes on the way i have the waves set to change to half green and half blue. Plus the xmb background colour is permanently blue, it does not change month by month by month or darken at night.

But I have not included the modded waves with this. Plus they would just be the standard wave for now, but in various colour combos. Was meaning to release a waves pack for this but got caught up in making my own CFW and amking my own installer for the xmb so it would be more simple to install any of the mods.

this may be possible through the custom_render.sprx . it contains some coding for the gameboot. you can separate content type (i.e. GD+AE) etc. if you're unsure of the alphanumeric code, you can check the category_game.xml. I can't be sure, but I think ps1 and ps2 are recognizable content types.

it should be possible av seen it done in the past, just not sure if it was for different things or it just went through the gameboots, want to add it to my CFW but be my own work.

I haven't messed with the gameboot aside from making a full screen one. I know that you can manipulate the gameboot inside of it.
