PS3 PKGi PS3 v1.2.2 released

as I mentioned, the app actually supports any kind of text database, (.csv, .tsv, etc). You only need to define a "dbformat.txt" file ( https://github.com/bucanero/pkgi-ps3#user-defined-db-format ). You can easily build your own by following the examples.

About categories and other type of content: check the latest version 1.1.2 . I've added support for mutiple database files, so now you can load data for many types of content, and then filter it from the app as needed.
Why not just incl the files in the pkg on next update?

well, I never thought about it, but yes maybe it makes sense to add PKGi to the "Network" section on XMB. Btw, it's just a category change in the PARAM.SFO.

For now, if you want, you can edit it yourself with any param.sfo editor and then overwrite the file. You might need to rebuild the database for the change to take effect.
Ohhhhh!

Yes, background downloads will show up after a reboot on the internal download manager (XMB -> Network -> Download manager).
My suggestion is to queue everything you need, and then do one reboot at the end.

btw no need for conversion tools. Since version 1.0.5 you can use any text database file without doing any conversion. You just need to define a "dbformat.txt" file so the app knows how to handle the custom format.
Check here for examples on how to define a format file for your list:
https://github.com/bucanero/pkgi-ps3#user-defined-db-format
Think I'll stick to the conversion way for now till I fully get it. Much more easier than how you're explaining it.

@DeViL303 , I've added the categories feature we were discussing earlier . Do you think I missed any meaningful category?
(btw, I've only recycled the unused "flags" column for the content type value, so any old database will just tag items as "unknown")
  • Unknown
  • Game
  • DLC
  • Theme
  • Avatar
  • Demo
  • Manager
  • Emulator
  • Application
  • Tool
Looks great.

Thats cool about backwards compatibility with old databases too.

I know they would fit under applications, or under official XMB categories, but you could have a separate one for No-PSN apps. And if someone could create a DB file from nopsn.com that would be great :)

Yes, I wasn't sure about adding a specific NoPSN category or not (or use the regular "application" category). It's a simple change now that the whole categorization feature is done.

As I was saying to Zar, now it starts to make sense to build some .pkg lists (as you said for NoPSN apps) and bundle it together as a simple "homebrew store". One question about the NoPSN would be if the owner(s) of nopsn.com wouldn't mind linking their files or not.

I have not had much time to check this out, but really a cool project.

You can link to files on nopsn.com if you like, no problems :D

thanks for this amazing tool @bucanero !

I wanted to suggest a feature: Select multiple items from the list, them the app would prepare all stuff that we've selected and it would automatically reboot the console to start downloading. usefull if you want to preselect some stuff and let it downloading while you walk away from the console to do your daily affairs.

thanks for your feedback! :)
it could be a nice feature, even for direct downloads. The user would build a queue list by selecting items, and then the app will process everything when the user "starts" the queue.

I'll keep it in mind next time I get into the pkgi-ps3 code

Hi! Thanks for this awesome tool! Im wondering if its possible to download packages directly to an ext hdd instead of internal hdd?

thanks :)

thanks for your feedback. Recently someone was also requesting the option to save .pkg files to an external device (USB).
I'd suggest to open an issue on the GitHub repository ( https://github.com/bucanero/pkgi-ps3/issues ) so I can have some visibility of the request and how many users actually need it. Then if there's a chance I'll have it in mind for the next version.

Ok guys here's what i did. just throw these in USRDIR.

How to use
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Simply toggle between Games and DLCs in the pkgi menu.

You should know better than that, I should have given you a day off for each rap you just posted.

I have a suggestion. Instead of downloading pkg to hdd0 then installing them why not use a buffer to extract pkg directly to game folder to reduce the installation time by half. Then rebuilding database takes only a minute. This way those huge 20GB+ games dont take half a day to install.

I wrote a short code to generate a proper pkgi.txt from another source, without the rap column. Still haven't tested it.

Nice one! I added a few source files to the app, but pkgi after launching it, saying "Refreshing... 263647.06 kb". I left my Ps3 for about 15 minutes, but still refreshing, the console is not frozen, just the app itself. I also added the online database URLS to the file. I tried it without them as well, but same hangup. I have 7 game categories defined in my lists.
