PS3 PNG to GIM

The original is located at position X=0, Y=0 and have a size of X=1200, Y=128

And the image you want to add should be located at X=0, Y=0 and it needs to have a minimal of X=150, Y=150 (im cropping it as an square because this is more convenient, it simplifyes things)
Btw, for the record...
The image i made to calculate positions/sizes is ok... but i failed when looking at it and counting pixels
Your image should have size X=300, Y=300

And another btw... the black plane at back we was talking about is not needed because you said you want to use it in the gameboot, and the official gameboot already have a black background

Here ... check out the ones I just edited, I don't have a good image editing skill, but I think they look good.

Man ... I'm bored ... I can't turn any images into gim, I used all RandomDude rcomage and only works versions 1.7 and 1.8 ... version 1.9 which has the option to choose the type of gim doesn't work ... when I open the application it says that the PC is missing an MSVCP143.dll file ... I already installed this dll and rcomage still does not open !!. This version of rcomage was the one I used most to replace images ... but now I'm facing this problem. I have some ideas in mind, but the PC doesn't seem to be on my side, I haven't replaced the gameboot image yet ... because of this problem.

Is manual conversion with gimconv not working?

If you think maybe the settings are wrong..different images and rcos can use different settings. You can check his database, and just use the same gimconv settings as his database says.

@DeViL303 @sandungas

How to call an icon eg Now playing that is present in explore_music.rco in another category?

I mean custom entries icons is called in explore_full.rco but adding the icon of other category in it, will make it lose the transparency.

Is there anyway to call this from other rco and keep its transparency?

@DeViL303...by the way ... how do you turn images into image.bin? ... i mean ... i have those icons on the PS4 buttons that you sent me, they have a nice design, would i be able to turn those images to image.bin and add them to the texts. Is it too hard to do that?

I don't know how to do it on this way
Ah shit, I posted a link explaining it back on the first page (#9). You must have missed it.

OK, I will try make it as easy as possible. Really its best if you know the manual way, even if you have other tools too.

  1. Extract my GimConv zip to folder on your PC with no spaces in the name, for example = C:/gimconv/
  2. Extract your rco to another folder using any version of rcomage. for example to = C:/myrco/ - DONT let it convert to PNG
  3. Take your custom tex_ps3logo.png you have created and place it in the C:/gimconv folder from step 1
  4. Click on the C:/gimconv/Click_to_Convert_tex_ps3logo.png_to_GIM.bat
  5. Take the tex_ps3logo.gim from C:/gimconv/ and place it into C:/myrco/images/ overwriting the gim that is there.
  6. Repack your rco using the same version of rcomage that you used to extract it.
  7. Thats it.

Yes its hard, harder than this png to gim really. Also there are no public tools for it yet either. Maybe someday. ;)

Hmmm....okay ... I'm curious now, @LuanTeles added the X and O buttons with a 3D look on impose_plugin.rco, very different from the standard icons.
They have a kind of "running" animation .... How did you do it @LuanTeles?

Those are different, just normal gims inside the impose plugin rco but with an animation script running. See my custom_render_plugin/coldboot/gameboot thread for more info on those animations.

Ahhh ... so that's fine ... So that means I can use the PS4 buttons with this method. I want to add them to impulse_plugin.rco and other places like: Change the L1 / L2, R1 / R2, O, Start icons of the web browser.

Yeah, a lot of the time the button icons are in the rcos, only rarely read from imagefont.bin.

Personally I dont like the faded colours of the ps4 button icons, very cartoony. The vita icons are much nicer however, with shading to look like real buttons. Or you can find nicer button icons on google images.

I am working on some imagefont.bin mods too but on hold for now.

These PSVita icons have a better resolution. If I have difficulty adding PS4 buttons .. could you leave these PSVita images.bin here?

Not good enought, it have pixelation and some "garbage" pixels at the edges
I made one for you, scaled and cropped at the correct size, i took it from here: https://1000logos.net/playstation-logo/
https://www.sendspace.com/file/njy7ib

But... im uploading only the .png, is like an exercise :P
You need to do the conversion to GIM, with this command:
Code:
GimConv.exe tex_ps3logo.png -o tex_ps3logo.gim -ps3dxt3
The resulting tex_ps3logo.gim should have a MD5: 82E5D7DE70CC3303F8405E2A323F761D
This is how you will know if you did it correctly, if you have that MD5 is ok :)

I give you 24 hours to complete the task, otherway i will ban you
nah... just joking, i will give you the gim :P

Hehe, yes you need to get used to gimconv.exe anyway because you are interested in xmb mods and soon or later you are going to need to deal with gim files, are a bit problematic because they allows for different settings when you create the gim, but the commands are simple
And remember... "cd dirname" to enter in a directory, "cd.." to go 1 directory up"... and the most important the TAB key... is magic because it can autocomplete dir and filenames, also adds quotes automatically when needed

As example, you are inside a folder with 200 files... one of them is gimconv.exe and other is text_ps3logo.png so you can type this:

gimc TAB tex_ TAB -o tex_ TAB (and then delete 3 characers to replace the file extension png by gim)

Also, remember the arrows up and down allows to recover the previous commands you typed (so you can recover something you wrote before... then edit it a bit to change few characters)

-----------------------------------------
Btw... after you convert the png i uploaded to gim... you should not create a custom_render_plugin.rco with it (yet)

By replacing the image (only), what you are going to get is this:
bLmHzVt.jpg

I mentioned it before, the sizeX and sizeY of the image is hardcoded in the xml... is needed to change this values... but this is another chapter of the history, i will explain to you later :)

This might be why we seem to have a pixel limit on rco images, but maybe we dont really if the sizeX and sizeY is correct. Maybe it tries to squash it into the shape allowed if its the wrong proportions, but if it has too many pixels to fit then we get white box.
