ps3 games even if they are renamed, the title id is still read by PARAM.sfo if I'm not mistaken, instead for PS2 games the title id must be put in the title or can it be read from some file inside the ISO?

For PS3, the title id is found in the PARAM.SFO, but it's found also at offset 0x810 of the ISO. So, for PS3 is relatively easy to get the title id.

In /setup.ps3 the option PARAM.SFO when is disabled, the file name of the ISO or the name of the game folder is used instead of the title.

PS1 and PS2 ISOs don't have a PARAM.SFO. The game id is usually found in the file SYSTEM.CNF, but it would require extra processing parsing the ISO to get that information. To reduce the time of file scanning (and a lot of extra development) the title id must be included in the file name.

For PS2 Classics (.BIN.ENC) it is a bit more complex to get the title id automatically. Although the file has a header with a content id, it has the title id for the PS2 Classic (NPxx-99999); not the one of the original ISO (SLxx-99999). Additionally the .BIN.ENC is encrypted.

So the easiest way to get the title id is to read it from the file name. Anyway it's optional, but if the title id is included you will get automatic cover display and auto configuration.

1) The CONFIG is applied automatically only if the ISO or .BIN.ENC has the title id included in the file name.

The title id should be enclosed between square brackets or parentheses.

2) Yes. If the game already has one CONFIG, the file is used without modification. If there isn't a title id or if the CONFIG auto-selected is bad, the user has to put the CONFIG file manually.

Ahhhhhh its awesome to discover this discussion of yours today
been awhile since i wanted to install your PS3 Config file to my CFW console.

Actually all my PS2 iso are installed on my internal HDD in the PS2ISO folder

(1) could you show us how to exactly name the games iso correctly ?
you mentionned title id enclosed between square brackets of parentheses but if you could show us a single exemple if will be easier to properly name our iso.

(2) what the latest PS2 CONFIG file (version or release date ?) where to download it

(3) Finally how to proceed to install the file correctly (step by step)

Im know im late to this , its TODAY that I will finally finish this and im sure plenty of psx-place members that didnt not discovered this yet will enjoy your answers Aldostools :)

Many thanks in advance for your reply to my 3x questions and late merry christmas & Happy New Year 2021 to you and your loved ones ! ;)

1) My Game [SLES_123.45].ISO or My Game [SLES-12345].iso or My Game (SLES12345).BIN.ENC
These are only some examples. There are multiple possible variations.
2) https://github.com/aldostools/webMAN-MOD/releases or Brewology always have the latest
3) The database for ISO is already included in webMAN installer. Install the database only if you use PS2 Classics (e.g. HEN).
Install the PKG as usual. Mount the game. webMAN MOD does the rest.

I dont use PS2 Classics , I always use the "my games" folder in the xmb menu , i click the PS2 game , it mount automatically and i click on the disc icon to start it.

What i need to do it i proceed this way ?
after i rename all my game like you showed to me , Did i still need to install the PS2CONFIG_20201227.pkg before trying to play them ?

its really complex for average people like me who speak another language.
if only a youtube tutorial could exist to show the step by step , it would be easier

I tried to read online , i dont have managunz or ps2 classic homebrews , i never downloaded/used them
when i CFW my ps3 I was told/read somewhere that now managunz & Ps2 classic was not needed anymore.
I dont know if its true, me i have simply multiman & webman mod 1.47.28 installed , installed my PS2 ISOs internally in PS2ISO folder , go in "my game" click to mount the game and click on PS2 disc icon on xmb menu to start them

Some never worked , so i read a lots and understood i would need your PS2Config pkg file to resolve the issues on somes of them.

I just need to know , to make thing properly , if i should erase/reinstall a most recent mmcm & webman mod , rename all my game with ID and what next....simply install this package of yours : PS2CONFIG_20201227.pkg (49.2Mb) and i will be good to go ?

Please be little patient with me Aldostools , you make a REAL difference in my world and i only need 5min of your time.

I just checked and it seem that i dont have installed any PS2Config manually (pkg)
if i update with latest webman 1.47.31 , did i will be okay or it will still be better for me to install your PS2CONFIG_20201227.pkg ?

Im sorry to not be more smart and not been born using english natively :(

After your answer i will not bother you anymore and will wish you a nice holidays :)

Hello aldostools ,

I need to test this config file for this game : PS2 PAL Commando Strike Force (Game ID : SLES-52768)
I found 3x version here : http://ps3.aldostools.org/ps2config.html

(1) wich one i need to select (CUSTOM , GX or SOFT) ?
I use a PS3 Slim CFW Cobra Rebug 4.86.1 Lite Edition with Webman Mod 1.47.31 (full installation)

(2) if i need to install this one individually by myself , where i need to go in multiman to drop it ?

(3) on https://www.psdevwiki.com/ps3/PS2_Classics_Emulator_Compatibility_List
this specific game show :

PAL and USA Version have the same bug. The game plays flawlessly the first mission, but the rest of the missions happens an strange bug, you appear in the map but with no weapons and the mission yo cannot finish him because even the enemies aren't there, in terms of framerate the game plays good but I repeat. Only the first mission can be played

Its why i need to test this specific ISO now in 2021 to understand if with the right config file the game is now playable and we can get access to the 2th mission....

EDIT : theses informations on psdvwiki date years ago , so maybe now with your config files the game is fixed... ??

Thanks for your clear answers
Thanks :)

@Coro , @aldostools :

Okay I renamed my PS2 ISO like this : TRUE CRIME New York City[SLES_238.18].iso
but the game have issues...
Did ALL the Config Files in PKG format someone gave link to me are ALL CUSTOM or NET or GX or SOFT ? or ALL theses versions are ALL included in the latest pkg I downloaded ? (PS2CONFIG_20201128.pkg)

When Aldostools mention : "If there isn't a title id or if the CONFIG auto-selected is bad, the user has to put the CONFIG file manually."

HOW i put the CONFIG file manually ? I need the path using multiman/mmcm please...

@John1971 Name your iso/config like this:

*game name*.iso
*game name*.iso.CONFIG

For example:

True Crime - NYC.iso
True Crime - NYC.iso.CONFIG

This is in dev_hdd0/PS2ISO. Also make sure CONFIG is capitalized. Afaik every letter has to be capitalized or else it will not work.

Kuri Kuri Mix doesn't need a config. Also, test Commando Strike Force and report back if you still can. I am curious about it. ;)

Thanks you so much MrJaredbeta !
I will do some testing tomorrow morning and get back to you

but I tested Commando Strike Force and the game (SLES) is working , i reached 2th level flawlessly !! Youppi !! :)

Hi,

I have this 'PS2CONFIG' folder inside my games folder since september 2019 (when I first installed HEN). I don't know or remember why it's there, but as far as I use PS2 classics GUI to encrypt iso+config file and play PS2 games (I use HEN), I guess I don't need this folder and I can deleite it, isn't?

Another folder (this is a little off topic, sorry) that I don't know exactly what It is is 'XMBMANPLS'. It seems that is a webMAN folder, which I'm using, so I should not deleite it, but I want to be sure, because I'm cleaning my HDD of useless files and folders.

Thanks in advance.

That folder is used by webMAN MOD for the auto-select the CONFIG when a PS2 ISO doesn't have one already.

webMAN MOD always creates the folder when you install or update it.

You can delete it if you don't use it, but it will be created again the next time you install webMAN MOD.
It only consumes 60MB if you installed the standalone package or less than 4MB when webMAN installs it.

XMBMANPLS folder has the webMAN menu. It can be deleted, but the XMB options for setup will be missing.

a) Ok, I see. So, as far I can't mount PS2 isos (because of HEN), and my PS2 games are copied to internal HDD after encryping/pkg them with PS2 Classics GUI, webMAN doesn't load anything from PS2CONFIG folder in that case, I am right? I that case I'm going to deleite it.

b) I will keep the XMBMANPLS one, then.

c) Another little off topic: because I'm cleaning my HDD of useful content... Is there any PS3, HEN, webMAN or Multiman tool to defrag HDD? I read that 'Rebuild data base' is like defrag, but I am not sure.

a) webMAN MOD only installs the CONFIG files for ISO/CFW. HEN users need to install the standalone PS2CONFIG package which is not included by default because it weight 60MB. That package includes the CONFIG database needed for BIN.ENC (PS2 Classics).

b) Good.

c) Rebuild database as its name says it rebuilds the XMB database removing broken icons and scanning missing content (e.g. installed PSN games not showing on XMB).

Restore File System is closer to defrag, but it isn't exactly that. If you're having HDD issues, I suggest to backup your content (home directory, ERK, registry, etc.), format the HDD and reinstall CFW/HFW + reinstall your files.

a) Ok, thanks! So... you mean that when I launch a PS2 game directly from XMB (without using webMAN to mount it), it loads config files from PS2CONFIG?

c) Ok. I'm not having HDD issues. Yeah, format HDD and reintall stuff again would be the best, but it's too much work (reinstalling games, updates, hombrew, saves...) and HDD has no issues.
