PS3 PS3 FAT CECHC04 - COK-002 - GLOD - no video on HDMI and Component

It's not the board so much as the interposer, solder balls and BGA pads on both the interposer and board you need to worry about. Those copper BGA pads are fractions of a millimeter thick. Applying extreme downward pressure isn't great for them and it definitely can warp the board even though it's thick. The FR4 material the board is made from is actually flexible and will bend. It's designed to, as it gets hot during operation it'll begin to take on a permanent warp over time.

Extreme downward pressure :D
I guess in an ideal world, the 'mod' would apply about the same amount of pressure (at the center of the CELL-pcb) than the stock heatsink mount will apply (to the board/bga/cell). Then the whole package is clamped like in a vice, nothing will get broken.
Ofcourse there may be some kind of user error, a too thick rubber may stress the bga or damage something, like you said.

So here's my question, have you done a CPU reball on a PS3?

Nope.

Your comments are based on theory as I don't know anyone that has used pressure in the way I have to recover the console.

You haven't recovered the console. You've botched the electrical connections on the bottom of the CPU by using pressure exceeding the design to force the failing BGA joints to establish a connection.

If not, would you like to put this to the test? I am happy to send you one of the GLOD consoles I have used the pressure mod on. You then perform a CPU reball and assuming you actually recover the console we can then see how long it lasts.

No I would not. I suggest contacting a reputable repair technician local to you and paying them to carry out the required repair.

Your comments are based on theory as I don't know anyone that has used pressure in the way I have to recover the console.

Have you asked yourself the question as to why that might be?

All theory's have to be put into practice and I'm more than happy to put this to the test. You can play the.console or send it back to me and I can give it to a friend to test.

I'm not interested in repairing or playing your consoles for you.

With regards to the xbox 360 I beg to differ. I know because I know people that tried the bolt method and the console would not last more than a few months

Sure. I did a bolt mod back in 2012 before I knew any better and it lasted around 2 years before kicking the bucket. It's anecdotal at best and isn't a lasting repair. That why I compared your botch pressure method to the botch "bolt" mod.

None of the 6 I have recovered have failed and like I said, one of them is nearly a year old.

Right. A few things to point out here. One, you don't have a large sample size. Two, none of them have been running for longer than a year and three, you haven't recovered any of them. You've botched them together using pressure on both a chip and a board not designed for it. I hope you're not selling or charging for these!

Absolutely not, I don't think you have watched my videos. Firstly this is experimental and I'm giving them away to family and friends to test. (This is why i offered you a free console but you have simply ignored that!) Your asking questions I have answered in my videos so I'm guessing you haven't watched them. I only sell consoles that have never had a fault and are sealed. I then perform a referbishment process to prolong the life of the console.

I did buy one that had the tokins replaced, I think it might be from you, but it failed my stress test and didn't last more than an hour.

Also what your suggesting isn't financially viable, to get a quality reball is 130 pounds and it's extra if you want the RSX and CPU de-lidded. You can buy a working one that has never had any faults for that price. Also every repair shop online will not guarantee a successful repair and will take a 30 pounds non refundable deposit if the console can't be fixed. The problem with this is you could be literally paying someone to destroy your console.

So keep an open mind, nobody before myself has applied the pressure in the way that I have, what if it actually works? I am happy to send you a GLOD console which works with pressure for you to do a reball and we can put this to the test. You can ignore this of course or stand by what you say and do it.

Once you have completed the repair you can send it back to me and I will send a pressure modded one back to you and we can see which one fails first. I'm not disagreeing with what you are saying, I am suggesting however the mod is given the chance to either prove itself or fail like you say it will, which of course may not happen that is why we test.

Here are my final thoughts on this topic

When I first did this mod I was sure it would fail after a few hours. When it didn't I then performed the mod on more consoles to see if it was a one off. To date I have done this to six consoles and even now I'm sure it will fail but every time I have been proved wrong. All six consoles are still working and my nephew that plays the console everyday reports it's still going with no issues. When the console lasted more than a few months I started to think well it will probably not last a year. And now the very first one I did this mod on is coming up to the one year mark. All the consoles are played everyday and all the consoles have webman and are running at 32 percent fan speed as a minimum fan speed. I'm sure this is probably helping as there will be less heat contraction when it's shut down.

I am sure these consoles will fail and I'm just waiting for one of my friends or family to give me the bad news. However to date this has not happened and all my expectations have been exceeded. That's why I actually bought one of Ebay and performed the mod on camera. I then went onto play the last of us from start to finish clocking up more than 20 hours of gameplay in a short period of time. This console I still have and I run it everyday for about 3 hours and there is no sign of it giving up. I know friends that have had a reball and it's failed after 6 months. These consoles are exceeding this which I find it's nothing short of amazing.

So yes like you I acknowledge this is not a true fix however I belive we must test to prove our theory correct. I have not only been proved wrong it's helped me to also understand that a strained CPU substrate can cause the CPU tokins to work harder which then can lead to CPU tokin failure. That's why I now tag on tokins as part of this mod as I have discovered this prevents unexpected shutdowns.

So to sum up if you have the tools, knowledge and expertise to perform a CPU reball then do it, or if you know someone you can trust with the above qualities then sure get them to do it. But don't pay a repair company to do this work as my friends have pointed out, it's likely they will just perform a reflow leaving your console prone to failure within 6 months. Not only that it costs a fortune and if they kill your console they will take 30 pounds just so you can have it back not working.

So based on my current findings I recommend the pressure mod, even if you use it to recover your data so you can buy a new one this is by far a better solution than paying a repair company to carry out a reball fix on your console. Hell, you can make sure your data is always backed up every day so if it fails you can buy a new one then. And of course there is the possibility it never fails and you have saved yourself a fortune in repair costs.

So knowledge, expertise, experience, know-how, equipment or know someone that can = CPU reball.

None of the above = Pressure mod and daily backup of data incase it fails.

I think this is a honest and fair conclusion

What do you mean is this for real, yes the BC models are temperamental and need servicing every few years. If not they are likely to fail due to the fact its an old system that needs care and attention

Console number 7 modified to boot from a GLOD failure. To date I have revived 7 consoles with all of them working since the mod with no failures. Please note: This is not an actual fix, it's a mod to get the console to boot. To date the first one I did is now 13 months old, has run well over 70 hours of gameplay and is running with no issues to this day. All the other consoles are still running with no issues so the evidence points this to being a successful modification with looks like it will last. Obviously I am still testing this and I eventually hope to get to about 20 of these consoles modded to get a clear picture of how successful this mod is.

I will be selling these as spares or repairs but as working on eBay. This will be on the understanding the buyer let's me know how the console is running every few months. If your reading this and want one if these for yourself then let me know, I need as many people to test this mod as possible, obviously it will be at a spares or repair price so if it fails you can use the console for parts or attempt a reball or reflow yourself. Console will be running custom firmware, webman will ensure console never goes above 65 degrees, this is part of the modification so less heat equals less contraction of the board.

After testing this console needs to be set at 33 percent fan speed, that might be to loud for some people but not for a serious gamer.

Please note this mod only works if you have a green light with no picture and the controller is not connecting to the motherboard. Or if your console boots but sometimes freezes displaying graphic anomalies. You must see a flicker of hard drive activity, obviously hard drive needs to be connected to the console when trying to boot. This is the exact scenario that's required for this mod to work. I had a console that had a green light issue but when you turned it off and on again had a yellow light issue. This mod will not address the YLOD issue so won't work to fix that fault.

My recordings are mostly in real time so feel free to fast forward to the actual mod.

Hey guys! I have this cechk03 at my place. Friend told me that is CFW and insane loud. I'm thinking of NEC tokins are dieing. But piggybacking it should be help, or just makes it worse? Thank you

It's either naked snakes eraser mod or a CPU delid that's required. Tantalum capacitors are only required if its failing to boot or it suffers from unexpected shutdowns.

Webman is showing the fan at 24 percent, have you tried to set the speed in manual?

Yes. but it is audible its running at max.
Tried everything. If Im going to thecfw tools and set it to manual 40% it stays the same
disassebly begins now

You need to rule out a software problem first. The best way to do this is to install official firmware and do a system restore. If thus doesn't fix the fan issue then go back to CFW and install webman again. Only then open your console, its either a faulty fan or a faulty temperature sensor although I'm not sure its that as webman reports the temps are low.

Can I do it without losing all the data? Its been eraser modded, the fan is 24% by display but its sitting still aroun 99%. temps are idle 44C CELL 42RSX

Okay, try "restoring default settings" in safe mode, does the fan go to 99 percent when in safe mode?

Okay try restoring default settings, it's unlikely that will work but worth a try. If not then it's likely you have something wrong with the fan, do you have another?

Fan seems okay. I need to try this full facory method. but i feel its something else.
I have an RLOD waiting to piggybacked, etc, but know nothing about the fan. It turns off you know. :)

Uninstall webman and try a reinstall just in case webman is messing with the settings. I have never seen this fault, but then again this console keeps surprising us
