PS3 PS3 randomly shuts down when playing

I was playing MW2 and out of nowhere mid game the console shut down with 3 beeps and then consistent red light flashing.

I'm guessing this is an overheating issue or could it be something else?

I had to replace the GPU on my console when that happened and sent it to a shop so its probably a hardware issue

I replaced the thermal paste but for some odd reason my ps3 black screen freezes when loading multiman. Any ideas?
Ensure your blu-ray drive is correctly connected. Those black screens are symptomes of missing or bad drive logic board.

Its definitely the blue ray drive. I couldn't reconnect it as the ribbon cable got damaged upon taking it apart. Is there a way to bypass this and still use it without the blue ray drive connected?

So I was able to install the NoBD firmware which fixed it. However now I'm having issues loading an iso. Is there a certain way to do it with noBD?

noBD cfw is not a magic solution. Better to try fixing your drive connector.
That said you may try webman or irisman.

If it happens more frequently recently in your case during playing games, because of heavy load on GPU, nec/tokin capacitors on GPU are probaly no longer storing enough electricity and the voltage on GPU is reduced to that point, that GPU can no longer work stable and your console shuts down with YLOD and three beeps. Best way to check it is to fetch the error codes from SYSCON to get in common what exactly is going wrong to properly determne the issue. If your console is working stable in XMB and is jailbroken, you can get the error codes using this homebrew: Releases · bucanero/ps3-advanced-toolset (github.com)

I have noticed sometimes it boots with a blinking from yellow to green light temporary. Does that mean anything?

if you got webmanmod installed its because of it from what I recall, nothing to worry about, it always does that on boot
I do indeed have WebManMod installed, so what I'll do is I have to order a new BD ribbon cable anyways. I already applied new thermal paste, so I'll wait for the ribbon cable to come in, replace it and then I'll go from there. See if it still shuts down mid-game.

That's the best option. Then reinstall a regular cfw.

So new ribbon cable was put in and now every time I try to update the firmware back to 4.90 PEX I get error 8002F14E. And I can't get the PS3 back to before I tried updating as every time I restart after the error it just reattempts the update.

The only thing that is truly broken is the latch on the connected but videos said you can't wedge a bit of cardboard to hold the cable in the connector. It seems sturdy enough.

Any ideas?
