PS3 savegame corrupted after upgrade CFW

Hello, gentlemans.

I would like to ask if there is a method to "repair" savefile corrupted after upgrade my CFW with games with "installed game data" from before update CFW to 4.81 (from 3.55). Seems to load games with
"installed game data" from previous CFW (for ex.: 3.55) will corrupt your savefile if you play on newer CFW (4.81 in my case). I didn't delete the old "installed game data" (my mistake).

I tried Rebuild Database, but not luck; restore my savefile from MMOS, but not luck. The PS3 doesn't recognize my old backup after of that the PS3 corrupted my savefile after load the game with the installed game data. Seems to the PS3 doesn't recognize my old backup after of that the game corrupted the savefile. The only thing i saw witch can work is FORMAT my HDD, but no sure...

I only corrupted 3 or 4 games (luckily) before i figure out the problem, so i don't know if it's worth.

Any clue or format my HHD?

Thank you.

CFW have nothing to do with saves.

Some games, keeping saves in "dev_hdd0/game/<GameID>/USRDIR/<somewhere>" like i.e Uncharted 3 or LBP but "corruption" can only possible (?) affect when data was cached on CFW with old Cobra and user jump to CFW with newer Cobra (this issue was fixed as I remember in around 7.1). So still, it's not Your case.

I have finished two hundred games on PS3, from 2.64 to 4.81, OFW and many CFWs, backuping and sometimes restoring saves. I have never any problems.

Also I don't see a reason why console doesn't recognize old backup (older than "save corruption" after CFW upd).

Your problem is probably with dying HDD... ;) Check S.M.A.R.T.

Well, the funny thing is i played Diablo III with my old save on CFW 4.81 with "installed game data" (in this case only the update, no game data mandatory), but after i update my the game from v1.01 to v1.02, the savegame got corrupted (corrupted or invalid, i don't remember). The error is 80029208, only on The Last of Us savegame, the other games don't say that. I only get savegames corrupted if i play games with "installed game data" before to update my CFW (eboot.bin 3.55 probably). If i delete "installed game data" and reinstall the game data, the savegame don't get corrupted.

I checked filesystem from ps3 (i don't know if this is reliable). The other method would be insert the HDD on my PC and check.

Thank you.

Yes, You should detach it and check it on PC (remember to not agree to any modifications proposed by operating system!). All symptoms looks for me like HDD problem.

http://www.psdevwiki.com/ps3/Error_Codes
Code:
0x80029208 Error loading user profile after update

If You have NAND console, maybe it's only xRegistry.sys corruption.

Try "Restore file system" in recovery mode with installed games updates.

I did Restore file system three times already and Rebuild Database, but not luck. I will try one more time to discard that.

If You have NAND console, maybe it's only xRegistry.sys corruption.

I see 2 paths:

- Delete xRegistry.sys from dev_flash2/etc/ and reset settings from XMB
- Restore the .bak from dev_flash/etc/backup to dev_flash2/etc/

i can only see S.M.A.R.T? Can i do read test (not writing)?

Thank you, both.

What is your PS3 model? CECH-XXX?

I think that your CVTRM is corrupted (well known for CECH-L). But I will wait for your answer with next steps.

This question doesn't make sense. ;) S.M.A.R.T counting several types of events. There are three type of tests precisions and Your HDD always performing quick tests all over time when it's turned on. You cannot disabling it, so You cannot turn off writings.

About registry: I don't have NAND model, so I don't know if You can just delete this file. On NOR is on HDD and after deleting, it's replacing by clean one somewhere from flash.

Ok. Yes, i have CECH-25xx, so i have NOR.

I replaced the xregistry. I will check my old savedata and see what happens, after that, i will check my HDD.

Thank you.

If You replaced registry by empty one, You lost ownership of all saves and trophies... because NP Account ID is zeroed. You must edit this file and write there Your own unique NPAID matched to this in saves/trp.

No needed in my case. The ps3 recognize my already existents profiles (i deleted my xregistry.sys and backup) and didn't lost my saves. Well, if that was the case i can use xregistry editor or Bruteforce Save Data (for trp also).

Note: i never go online, so i don't have Np Account ID assigned :)

P.S.: Probably i will format HDD, not a big fuss.

EDIT: Ok, the HDD is "perfect". SMART is ok. I will format the HDD and then install the same CFW 4.81.

@Berion @kozarovv I changed the thermal paste and now, when i turn on the ps3 "with HDD inserted", the ps3 turn off after 2 seconds aprox. If i turn on the PS3 without HDD inserted, the play work perfectly. Is it problem of Thermal paste or any wrong connection?

The HDD is OK (smart, and formatted on pc).

:(.

Sorry double post.

That is likely to happen when you abruptly turn off your console in the game. (pressing the power button).I've lost my trophies when i was playing Batman Arkham City.

Paste S.M.A.R.T report here so we all can judge.

@zeromant I always quit game by PSB (via "mini XMB" or just from simple menu list). But I always doing it when game doesn't save or unlocking trophy. ;) But if user turn off console via switch or power cord, only punishment will be waiting for fschk (few times I experienced unexpected power loss).

I kinda freaked out when i've lost all of my B:AC trophies lol. I was lucky enough when my savegame was intact. I guess lesson learned for me (?)

I formatted the HDD, but it's not my problem now :( (PS3 shutdown with HDD internal Connected, without HDD works fine. I readded thermal paste).

Note: i never shutdown the ps3 in game.
You can make a surface scan of the hdd with MHDD, this is going to tell you for sure if there is some problem with it. Is going to tell you the S.M.A.R.T. attributes also
There is a manual @kozarovv wrote in the forum about how to use MHDD and how to make the surface scan, search for it

P.S.
About the savegames... if the reason why they was corrupted was becaue the console crashed in the middle of a "save" process you can bet that are really corrupted
Sometimes gets corrupted too because at the time the game boots it loads a save and inmediatlly it "updates" another save (or the same save)
When something like this happens the most probable is are unrecoverable

I already did a test surface with AOMEI Partition Assistant Pro Edition 6.0 (I have Hard Disk Sentinel, Data Lifeguard Diagnostic, etc). I already posted S.M.A.R.T above.

Thank you.

If those tools are saying the hdd is ok... but the PS3 refuses to work normally with it... i would suspect of that tools

MHDD surface scan test takes around 8 hours to complete

I will see and try "MHDD" tutorial from here..

P.S.: i didn't do "Push power button (this step is removing power from capacitors)" after extract PS3 hdd, but not important

Thank you.
