PS3 slim fan speed

I hope you get it sorted, my friend. it's no fun being worried about temps all the time. that's how it was with me and the 360. it was so crippling in fact that I never used the system, despite owning one of the more desirable models for full hacks..

Ok here is report from the past 1 hour and 5 minutes temp monitoring :) I monitored temperatures and fan speed with webman. Turn on PS3, turn on webman temp monitor and then I started movian, because I want to avoid XMB to overheating RSX in the beginning.

Movian temps:
start CPU38 GPU33 Fan20%
5min CPU53 GPU50 Fan20%
10min CPU59 GPU59 Fan23%
15min CPU61 GPU62 Fan24%
20min CPU62 GPU63 Fan25%
30min CPU62 GPU64 Fan26%

and it was stable in movian on those temps CPU62 GPU64 Fan 26%. Then I exit to XMB and temps on RSX goes for 30sec to 65C, for 1,5min to 66C and for 2,5 min to 67C, so I had next situation.

XMB temps
35min CPU63 GPU67 Fan27%
40min CPU63 GPU67 Fan27%
50min CPU64 GPU68 Fan27%

and it was pretty much stable in XMB with CPU64 GPU67 Fan27%. Then I started Uncharted 2 and played for the rest of the test and temps are.

Uncharted 2 temps
53min CPU66 GPU70 Fan28%
1h CPU69 GPU73 Fan28%
1h05m CPU69 GPU73 Fan29%

And it was stable at CPU69 GPU73 Fan29%. Whenever temps are changing always go first with RSX and then like that temp drag also CELL temp up.

What do you think guys is this normal behaviour for this model? Temp in my room is approximately 20-24C, I can only imagine what temps will be at high temps in the middle of the summer :) Also I think that something is wrong with cooler base on RSX or under RSX IHS and cooling is inefficient on that side so RSX temp is always higher and drag the cell temp also.

Hmmmm.... youve got a quite hot machine there for hovering at the 70ºs, i suggest cranking the speed to 35% and report the results.

Yes, with that fan speed it will not be a problem for cooling. When I set max temp 68C in webman max fan speed under uncharted 2 was 32%, and fan settle at 28-29% again.

isn't harmful for Fan itself ?
nope, maybe for your ears :) Try start webman monitoring, long press start+select till hear beep, and monitor temps all the time in uncharted 2 and give us report of highest temp after half hour of gameplay.

With 35% fan speed ?

I deleted this masterpiece on my external hdd. Should i play GOW3 instead?
Ok try uncharted 3 then or 1 or something demanding like the last of us. Try with fan on auto, let the PS3 syscon to control the fan for this test, also monitor fan speed.

I just tryed "Uncharted 2" and play first mission for 30 minutes with this settings:

And here the results:

- Start the game in main menu: 59°C CPU, 59°C RSX, 24% Fan
- 15 minute: 63°C CPU, 67°C RSX, 36% Fan
- 30 minute: 65°C CPU, 67°C RSX, 38% Fan

All that was with syscon controll, right ? (in other words... factory fan speeds)
To me looks normal results, i had the same overall

Uncharted 2 temps
53min CPU66 GPU70 Fan28%
1h CPU69 GPU73 Fan28%
1h05m CPU69 GPU73 Fan29%
If the temperature in XMB before entering the game was around 65ºC... then the amount of time you spend inside a game doesnt matters :)

The point is... if you enter in a game in 65ºC you are going to see inmeditally the temperatures rises up a bit (but not much), even in the main menu of the game, or in the "pause" screen... you are going to have the "base" temperature of that game
From that base temeprature... is where appears the "peaks" but this peaks happens when you do something with huge graphic load in screen
Is very hard to meassure or even to see this peaks... but if you want to use a game for stress tests try GTAV... go to the sea, pick one of theat "water bikes (not sure how are named in english)... go to a point in the middle of the sea... and then start driving in circles while moving the camera in the opposite direction (and dont look at the screen, lol, epyleptic warning)
Keep doing that for a couple of minutes and you are going to see the effects of that temperarture "peaks"

-----------
A different way to explain why doesnt matters how many time you spend inside a game....
Enter in the game with 65ºC
Do what i mentioned in GTAV as faster as posible (is only going to take you 5 minutes)... and you will get max temperature (even bigger than if you play for 8 hours non stop)

Edit:
Credits to the "epyleptic temperature stress test" from GTAV to kozarovv btw... he had the idea (before that i was using the last of us for stress tests, but this one in GTAV is easyer to do)

@sandungas which setting i must choose for Fan control?

Dynamic fan or SYSCON ?
(If Dynamic fan, How much fan speed and Auto at?? )
Choosing "syscon mode" is mostly to see the speeds factory settings... if you are curious about it
In other words... choosing "syscon mode" is like not doing anything

The other modes to control the fan speeds can be labeled as "static" or "dynamic"
I dont recommend using static, i dont like it for many reasons
So yeah... for normal use choose dynamic... and try to find the speeds you think the noise level is aceptable for you

Yes all with syscon control. Someone in this thread said that the RSX chip is problematic one and that cell can take temperatures better? The 2504b model that I had before this had always hotter cpu then rsx, so I had situations in game like 72C CPU and 69C RSX is that better situation than opposite RSX at 73 and CPU 69C?
