PS3 PS3 "Tools" related question....

Do we currently have a set of tools that will allow the creation of pkg files for the pc? or has that not been made yet and will those pkg files work for the current versions of cfw? Reason im asking is a couple of my backups have a couple files that refuse to copy to both my 64 GB cruzer Glide and my 120GB kingston portable SSD even though both have plenty of space for those files
 
make a pkg of just the PARAM.SFO (ignore errors about no EBOOT.BIN and ICON0.PNG). then, copy over the rest of the files. the PARAM.SFO is all the system needs.

ummm ok but what program do I use for that? I wasnt specifically referring to the program called "ps3 tools". I meant tools in general...
 
iirc, you can use ps3 tools for this or make_package_nonpdrm.exe and its package.conf. ps3 tools uses that app actually. I'm not entirely sure if it's sony code or the work of a dev.

There are several tools for PC, the most commonly used are TrueAncestor pkg repacker & the Ps3tools suite.
Both are available from our resources section.
Ps3tools offers very practical entries in the context menu on Windows. You can right click on any folder containing at least a param.sfo file & choose "Make PKG".

As to your issues copying pkg files onto a FAT32 USB device, it is hard to say for sure what the cause might be without more details. "Refusing to copy" is very vague.
Most likely, the pkg files are not fulfilling FAT32 requirements ie their size > 4Gb, in which case you should use PKG Linker 2.0 to transfer your files over the network.
 
@bguerville , I had forgotten about true ancestor. ;)

@op, true ancestor is a fantastic set of tools. I mostly use the edat rebuilder one, but the others are very nice as well. :)

refusing to copy as in say Kingdom hearts video files or such being greater than 4gb but the 120gb ssd has more than enough space and it refuses to copy it to the device anyway
but its alright. I started using filezilla yesterday and that seems to be working pretty well so far

he means that fat32 has a 4GB limit, so no files larger than 4GBs can be copied to a drive with that file system.

It's perfectly normal. Fat32 has a 4Gb file size limit by design.
