PS3 (Research/Experimental) - NEC/TOKIN Capacitors Replacement - YLOD

Mine has Held up pretty good also.

This seems to be the only time it has crashed since i replaced 1 CELL NEC.

if you're running CFW could you rebuild database in the XMB as a test for me?(For me the system has to be cool i.e around 50C)

i think i'll remove all the NECs and bridge all the pairs individually(the positive points), that shouldn't hurt it right?
Nope, Rebuilded the Database, still runs normally, no shutdowns or anything, just had to reinstall Webman as Rebuilding the Database screws with the instalation, other than that normal operation. [emoji23]

Hmm... interesting. Mine only did it when the system was cold, max fan speed using TemMON. More proof that these NECs are just a ticking time bomb lol.

well tomorrow have the reminder caps coming in the mail, so I'll post a update/photo of what I did & how it went when I'm done with that.

so this is what I meant earlier, just to kind of better explain what I meant. I get continuity between these following pads color coded, and it doesn't matter which pad, top or bottom, they all share.

Is this okay? Can someone else confirm? I feel like the pictures shared in earlier threads make it sound like the outer pads are positive and the inner are negative (ground?) which seemingly means the three light blue pads are really off? Or do the tantalum caps not care about this lol.

Id appreciate others confirming, I am good at following directions, not so much knowledgeable on electrical engineering.

Cheers

So following this picture I should bridge both lines with one wire on each side where the red is marked? I am getting my capacitors today and want to make sure I do this correctly.

You just need 1 wire for CELL
And 1 wire for RSX

But you are free to solder together 400000 wires instead of 1... electrically is fine
So 1 wire for the RSX and one for the CELL, just like i mentioned, but only one is needed, so there is indeed continuity between the tantalums, still waiting on a update from @Luisile from his case, since he almost repalced all the NECs on the board! Time to wrap the reballing myth boys, oh wait it was already wrapped :rolling:

Nopes, the red lines painted by delita are connected in internal layers of the motherboard
That red lines are the V_IN of ALL the tokins

No

Please someone upload good photos of a motherboard (both sides) with the tokins removed so we can paint in top of them
Like the photos uploaded by delita, but in bigger size if posible

And yes that is mine next to one of my Slims.... It has a date with your Phats lad..... but I am guessing that you would rather use it for some DIY De-liding of CELL's..... :-p :rolling: :rolling: :rolling: :rolling:
So if your going to do it you might as well do it properly and use a proper knife and not some kitchen crap...lol
