RetroArch CE (Unofficial - Community Edition)

PS3 RetroArch CE (Unofficial - Community Edition) Beta 4

@Crystal is Mame 0.125 by Ole from FB NEo Plus RL available in RetroArch PSX-Place CE?
If yes, do you have a list of all roms compatible with it?

Thanks in advance.

So there's this great fan-made RPG for the Genesis called Pier Solar and the Great Architects. I read there is a Sega CD version, but when I tried to run it with Genesis Plus GX I got this...

I don't suppose there's some solution to this? (BTW, this game requires the Japanese Mega CD bios, despite there being only US and European versions of the game.)

It was developed by Watermelon Games and it's not a Sega CD game but standard Mega Drive game which runs from Cartridge BUT also supports the Mega CD add on (CD soundtrack only).

Stick the sound disc in your Mega CD and the cartridge in your Mega Drive.

The game should then detect the CD automatically.

How Genesis plus Gx handles this I'm not sure but you can't load the CD like a standard game.

WOW.. it's an homebrew project... impressive!!

Mega Drive development scene is still going. There are a lot of new games to the system.

@Crystal take a look in this recent game, it's beautiful. I like to play them in my own Mega Drive with Everdrive =)

@ZeroOne does it work like MSU-MD hacks?
These hacks searchs for MP3 tracks and it loads instead of the original from the ROM.

There are ROAD RASH 2 and Rock in Roll Racing hacks. I don't know if it's compatible with Retroarch Community edition, is it?
Example of Road Rash 2 Remastered Sountrack
PS: If interested in the soundtrack, you can buy it from here: https://www.retrorgb.com/road-rash-ii-msu-md-released.html

I found a reddit post about MSU-MD compatibility and how to use it in genesis-plus-gx (but still don't know if in the PS3 it's possible):

@JediKnight007 maybe if you follow my links above (reddit one) you can understand how MSU-MD works and try to emulate it. Probably you would need to get the ISO image compatible with your ROM, if it's USA, then get the Soundtrack ISO from USA as well. Then edit the CUE of the ISO and change TRACK1 to call the ROM (for example, rename piersolar-usa.md (unpack the zip) to Pier Solar and the Great Architects Enhanced Soundtrack Disc (USA) (Track 1).bin

Probably something like that would make this game work with soundtrack as MD-MSU. But I don't know if the RetroarchCE Genesis GX is compatible with it, you must test it. And please report it here =D

I think that combination only works on the Wii or GameCube version of GPGX.
I don't think Genesis Plus GX supports this functionality.
it's an homebrew project
Watermelon Games are/were an independent development studio made/published Mega Drive games.

Pier Solar was ported to the PS3 and other platforms https://store.playstation.com/en-us/product/UP2122-CUSA00551_00-HDDBOOT000000001
does it work like MSU-MD hacks?
I don't think it's exactly the same but it's possible as MSU-MD was based on this official supported hardware functionality.

You're probably right re: convert it to MSU-MD as the Mega CD is only reading the CD audio tracks. I would imagine it's possible to rip the audio off the CD and create an MSU-MD version.

Hi,

RetroArch Community Edition was working really well for two month, until it doesn't ... Now when I try to load RetroArch, it just go back XMB.

Before Community Edition I was using RetroArch 1.7.0 then 1.7.7, and I experienced the same problem, it works fine for some weeks, then for no apparent reason RetroArch doesnt work anymore.

I could reinstall RetroArch again and again every two month, as its working when I reinstall it, but it's becoming a bit annoying.

Maybe someone have an idea of what could be wrong with my PS3 and RetroArch ?

My PS3 is a slim model 25xx with CFW Evilnat 4.87.2 and everything is running fine except this little issue with retroarch.

I started looking into converting the game/enhanced audio CD version to MSU-MD.

Found a post on krikkz's forum re: conversion completed/confirmed working and an archive containing the MSU-MD version 'msu-md directory listing - Archive'

https://www.bing.com/search?q=MSU-M...s=n&sk=&cvid=68D8D664AA0F4092ADA30C5EADAAA48F
Great, thanks! I found the Pier Solar patch plus OST in the Archive.org.

Here there are some instructions for Retroarch:

Hey Jediknight007 long time no see! How you been bro?

Any reason for just not wanting to play the native PS3 port? This enhanced version of the game was even ported over to Dreamcast and it is much better visually than the original version.

I think it's a matter of preference. The art of mega drive / genesis version feels more consistent, it's all pixel art. And the Dreamcast / PS3 is a mix of pixel art + HD digitally painted backgrounds.

EDIT: I just read somewhere that you can switch graphics from 16bit to HD or vice-versa. I just don't know if there are scanlines option like Retroarch.

HDD space issues, mainly. Multiple gigs for the PS3 port vs a couple hundred megs for the Sega CD. Actually, I've gotten about 2/3 the way through the standard Genesis version, and somehow I doubt I'd be able to transfer that save to the Sega CD version, even if I could get it to work.

Last time I checked, MSU-MD was not supported by any emulator, but that was almost a year ago.

Delete retroarch.cfg

When I updated to 4.88 HFW and Hen 3.03, Retroarch CE Beta 3 started to kick back to the xmb menu on launch.
