RetroArch CE (Unofficial - Community Edition)

PS3 RetroArch CE (Unofficial - Community Edition) Beta 4

Thank you for your kind replies and the pc-fx core.

You know the whole fba 2012 dat file gets confusing,
is your fba 2012 core based like the libretro page you posted on the
FBA 0.2.97.24?

I made a set for the ps4 and there they used as fba 2012 core the
FB Alpha 2012 v0.2.97.29 dat file?

Load the core and check at the bottom left.

Unfortunatly to avoid many other (greater) problems, Retroarch for PS3 needs to be restarted to flush all resources and works correctly after a game.

A workaround to the issue reported by @greenchili could be to store the variables / indexes in a temporary file.
So when RetroArch is restarted it can return to the last selected files in the previous session.

I'm not sure if the scope of your project involves this kind of changes. If not, it would be nice if someone suggest it to RA developers.

Never know that
its good to know :)
I will restart after each game to avoid freezing or other things... ;)

Close content "restarts" retroarch does it not? If I close content on the xbox one it takes me back to the playlist. I'll ask them on the discord if they had to do anything special to get that behavior.

hey crystal i try to launch retroarch but it comeback to xmb... i have reinstall it without success, now i try to delete it

solved! i delete all cfg

i have a question = what is salamander cfg?

New cores: a5200, GearColeco, fMSX.

a5200 core worked with Choplifter, but the frame rate was about 15 FPS. But I may have had Logging turned on. EDIT - yup, Logging slowed the game down.

fMSX ran fine, but you have to go to Controls and set the Device Type to Emulated Keyboard (Joystick + Emulated Keyboard may also work depending on the game).

I'm having problems with VICE C64 Emulation using HEN4.88 on my PS3 superslim.

With a fresh install of beta 4 community edition I find Commodore (C64 VICE x64sc, accurate) too slow and the sound is slow. C64 (VICE DTV) crashes, C64 ( x64, fast) works but is too fast and highly inaccurate. Not sure what C64 SuperCPU is all about but it's also way too slow.

I know VICE is excellent on other hardware and I would love to emulate the C64 properly on the PS3. Any help would be appreciated.

"Close Content" will close the rom you currently have loaded and keep that same loaded core.

I already know that. I was using that as an example of how the xbox one retroarch works. When I do that it puts me back into the playlist of the last game that I selected not the main menu like other console versions do. I remember when it first started out the xbox one retroarch used to crash a lot but they eventually got that resolved. I can't remember if it always took me back to the game selected when it didn't crash. Either way it sounds like right now the xbox one does not have to force a reset like the PS3, PS4 or presumably the Wii-U versions of retroarch do.

I incorrectly presumed that maybe this was a console specific issue to all consoles. But it is looking more like possibly a memory issue? Hard to say. I just wanted to point it out.. cause going through and testing a large playlist can get rather tedious when I'm kicked back to the main menu everytime I exit out of a game.

Keep in mind your comparing some official with unofficial ports
PS3 and PS4 version are currently unofficial ports. (ps4 never has seen an official port)

Also, functionality will vary and behaviors will vary from port to port and from console to device ect..

Also keep in mind, If RetroArch crashes, things are not saved to the CFG file or history, that is the same if you quit from ingame xmb and not quit retroarch from the RetroArch menu.

Kicking back to XMB is an inconvenience but often is working as it should if there is an error, instead of black screen freezing or lock ups that require a reboot of the console (which should be done by holding power button not unplugging).

With so many core's (emuators) those things will happen, sometimes its an error on the app but sometimes its errors from Roms used or improper setup with the bios or setup files, depending on core. Reports are great keep them up, just don't expect quick fixes as its a hobby project for dev's, but reports help especially on some issues that need multiple user feedback.

I recompiled the scumm core, but in the lite version. The drives inside are so many that if you compile it in the complete version the core will no longer start as the PS3 does not have enough RAM, without even loading a game.
An alternative is to divide the core into several versions to use the appropriate one depending on the game to be loaded.Let me know what you think about it.

Yes, it's just used to restart retroarch using last core used. If this file is corrupt (and sometimes it happens) you have to delete it, otherwise retroarch won't start.
Yeah but only this salamander.cfg file, no need to delete retroarch.cfg....

it happened to me a couple of times, when messing around with snes msu1 and genesis msu games, btw ty again for all the updates, Crystal!!

Arcade Games that need pgm.zip bios, it seems to be broken, for sure in fba 2012, I think also in mame 2003 plus...

For Example:
Knights of Valour
kov.zip

I did verify rom with romcenter and right datfile, so it isnt the romset, its the emulator...
same on pfbneo ps4, btw..:)

Yes, please split the core into multiple cores like you already did with other cores.

Thanks for the awesome work that you're doing! :love heart::cheerful::love heart:

BTW would it be possible to add a check for R1+R2+L1+L2 when the EBOOT is launched?
So when that combo is pressed, salamander cfg is deleted in case it is corrupted. This would avoid us to browse the file system to find the correct file and delete it.
