I have 2 PS3s (cecha variants) that both of them have tosted gpus.I searched a bit on ebay and found some replacements but i have some doubts about them so my question is have anyone tried reballing any of these and actually worked and lasted?Since the gpus are the dgb variants is it safe to use any of the other 90nm variants such as bgd and plain gb?Also do you know anyone that does reballings (im from europe)?

Thanks for the reply.you are probably right.i actually do have a working slim that i got soon after my original died and i thought maybe these were worth fixing since there are so many ways to do it nowadays.apparently the nec fix that i read in another thread isnt for mine as they only worked after heating a bit the chips itself

As long as the 1st 4 numbers are the same yes its safe to use those other versions u mentioned. There is a simple Ohms test u can try on the BGA to see if its in OK specs but that doesn't give 100% guarantee still, tho if its out of spec then at least u know it wont work. The thing with Ebay is proving they are faulty with out attaching them to the mother board. Once they have had an attempted reball they wont replace them if u think they are faulty as they can then blame its ur re-balling method that could have killed the BGA. So yeah its is a bit of a hit and miss but they can work tho. Remember these BGAs are all 2nd hand and are not NEW at all even if they claim they are.

Thanks for the tip about the ohms test didnt think at all about that will definately try it .you are right about ebay those are the excact reasons why i was worried because as you said unless you reball it on the motherboard you will never know if they work or not.anyway will probably order one and see how it goes

I don't know about the ps3, but a reball is pretty good for a 360. a reflow is more like a patch, but the price of reballing, since the solder balls have to be done by hand, is more expensive than a reflow. $80 sounds about right, but it's not worth it. if the ps3 was still $600, I'd say go for it, but the system is ancient and very inexpensive now.
