PS3 Stop PS3 Update Loop

So, a guy brought to me his PS3 because he wanted me to install a CFW on it. It's a PS3 Slim CECH-2000. He told me that the BluRay drive stopped working, and so I took that into account until I just turned it on... He started the update process on the PS3, turned it on and already was stuck on the update. It goes all the way up to about 68% and then throws an error of course, 8002F14E, surely due to the faulty drive. On top of that, I don't know to which version it was updating to, and if I ask I probably won't get an answer, but being so recent I assume it's 4.83, which on top of all will make the jailbreak not possible... Tried getting to recovery without success, the PS3 will boot straight to the update even while keeping the power button pressed. Is there a way to stop this update at all so to not find myself on version 4.83?

If console is on OFW, then you need to fix BD (maybe is possible), or use hardware flasher with no-bd fw. Console on CFW can be updated using no-bd firmware.

There is a easy fix for the brd loop but before attempting to fix it,i would try getting the ps3 into recovery mode so you can reinstall a fresh 4.82 pup back on it.If you cant do this then you have no other choice but to continue the update.

However,to fix the brd you need to make sure the light can still flash blue. You would pretty much have to take it apart, get into the brd and then trick the disk drive into thinking there is a disk inside. That will allow the update to complete.

Console Is on OFW yes, I know that with CFW you can do that but it's not I knew this thing was updating. Got the PS3, turned it on and was already like this. I could check into the BD but damn, I have no flasher.

Nah as I wrote already on the main post, I tried to get into recovery without success. So there is no way to stop the update? Something such as swapping HDDs won't work? Cause damn. Also what do you mean with the flashing blue light?

Actually nevermind, only the fats and the very early slims have a blue light that indicates the blue ray drive.

You would have to do the same thing i said before and trick the console into thinking that there is a disk inside, but you probably wont be able to tell if its working since the mid 2000 slims dont have a light indicator for when a disk is inside the blueray drive.

Mmmhmmh. And how do I do that? Is there some guide? If I can't jailbreak this at least I'll check if I can get it running again. It's a shame the update can't be stopped at all

Actually, before taking it apart, put a disk inside the disk drive first. It doesnt matter if it doesnt read the disk with a droken laser,it just needs to put the console into blueraydrive mode.

So do this first.

-put a disk inside the disk drive

-turn the ps3 off

-turn it back on

-see if the update completes.

If that doesnt work then you are going to have to open it up.

You will have to take it apart and open up the disk drive
.....OK.... this now took an interesting scenario..... uuuh...
I just tried to insert a disc inside the PS3. I wanted to see if there were flashing blue lights whatsoever, was inserting the disc and it went almost all the way in... inside the PS3 chassis.

The BD Drive is not broken, THERE IS NO BD DRIVE AT ALL, the heck? Checked under the PS3 and the warranty sticker is not there. I have a strong feeling someone scammed this guy... Lol. I will post updates later, and ask him what this thing went through and if he bought it used.

So it wont suck the disk all the way in.That means you have to take it apart then.

No no, it's not that the problem, maybe I expressed myself wrongly, there is no BD Drive at all. I used a flashlight and I can see the inside of the chassis of the console, there literally is no BD Drive, while this guy told me it was just broken. He either bought it used already like this, or brought it to someone who scammed him hard, I can't do anything without checking with him first

Ah,then your screwed since you cant remarry a new drive to it.

Isn't it possible to get a replacement?

Well if it had cfw you could get a new brd and remarry it to a new brd which is one of the features rebug custom firmware has

But since its stuck on a update and you dont have the original brd,you cant swap it out since ps3 motherboards are pretty much married to there brd.
