PS3 stuck on HFW 4.85 can't install CFW

Hi,
I recently got a Phat PS3 from a thrift store. It's a CECHG01. I followed the directions pretty much to a tee. I was a little confused on the MD5 checking but I was able to installed hybrid custom firmware and successfully install the exploitation and patch the system, it did however take me 2 tries to get the exploitation installed. I closed out the browser restarted the system and tried to install rebug lite 4.85.1 and i got an error message around 78% stating "The Data is corrupted (8002F957)"
Troubling shooting steps I have taken
I have used 4 different flash drives 512mb, 16gb, 32gb, and a 3.0 16gb all fat32
I tried installing the firmware in the recovery menu with the same error
I tried installing a different custom firmware 4.85 FERROX Cobra 8.20
I tried re-formatting and restoring the system which took about 2 hours
I spent hours searching the forums and couldn't find anything.
All with the same out come.

If it is the MD5 and it doesn't match what do i do?

If anyone could give me some Ideas it would me much appreciated.

bluetooth or bluray drive work? imo, the easiest way to check the md5 and compare it is hash tab. that will add another menu under properties for the pup.
 
Wow Thanks for the fast reply! Just tested a BR Movie and Skyrim game both played.
I don't know how to test the BT but I did read that if the BD or BT was dead you wouldn't be able to install firmware however I was able to install the HFW. I got the MD5 checker. I am not sure what you mean by "that will add another menu under properties for the pup." are you talking about in the MD5 Checker it's self?
 
I also just tried putting in a new HD in the system.... Still no go :(
On PyPs3Chcker I get this messaged when I try to check my patched hex dump

Man did you Do those :
  • 1-check flash_485.hex MD5 : 2D74B066E7453E6B1336E36C410FB1EB if matches or not?
  • 2-use flash Dumper (NAND) First then
  • 3-use flash writer (NAND),no reboot (to check if dump is good after applying patches or no with one of those tools PS3DumpChecker/PyPS3tools) then
  • 4-use flash dumper (NAND) again after writing patched hex to Flash CoreOS
In your situation your dump should be with 239MB Size before and after using flash writer

Also error code 8002F957 meaning your PUP file is modified and PS3 doesn't have the patches to disable ECDSA signature Check in :
  • LV0 : iso loader
  • SPU_PKG_RVK_VERIFIER
to allow installation of modified firmware aka MFW/CFW or Dualboot FW so this prove that Flash Writer didn't apply neccessary patches to allow you to install CFW
