hi guys

is this game really what people are saying it is? that it is very good game?

i am trying to find a some sort of horror games to play on, something bit like dead space.

I played it briefly, and it seemed good from what I played. it's probably THE GAME for the ps3. it's possibly one of the most taxing games on the system as well, so make sure to have the fans set well.

^This. Especially if you have a Phat unit. Up there with Uncharted 2, Killzone 2, etc. Do a soft back up of your files or a full back-up utility just in case it crashes or something worse because these games utilize a cache partition on the hard drive too while using the flash partitions.

Excellent game though. Loved it when it released and still love it today. Showed how a 7 year old system could still be just as graphically amazing as the next gen consoles at the time (PS4 and XONE released later in the year and some wondered if it was even necessary to make next gen consoles since the PS3 and the 360 could still push out great games). Great survival horror game too, but not super scary like Resident Evil or Dead Space. More focused on story, characters and art design.

Great game. No game come close to its level on Playstation. I wouldn't comment too much on the game to avoid spoilers.

If you have PS3, play it on that. On PS4 remastered version, the 60 FPS makes the gameplay more smoother, but the game was ORIGINALLY developed to unlock the power of PS3 and its SPEs of CELL. The original PS3 version still has better lighting and particle effects. When they remastered the game, they could not emulate same PS3 graphics on PS4 for some reasons (obviously the CELL).

If you have a 4K TV or a big size 1080p TV, then play PS4 version. If you have normal size 1080p TV or a full HD monitor, i would advice you to play PS3 version.

"The Last of Us" is not a horror game, more like adventure game.

It is awesome (which I cannot say about sequel on PS4 ^^), one of the best PS3 titles. But if You expecting "Dead Space in Mushroom Kingdom", You will be probably disappointed. Better in this scenario are "Resident Evil 0" (port from GC), "Resident Evil" (port of remake from GC) and "Resident Evil: Code Veronica X (port from DC and PS2)".

Dead Space, especially first in trilogy (quadrology?) is like old Resident Evil games before RE4 comes (and like RE2 and RE3 remakes on PS4 but far worst than PSX versions).

(...) because these games utilize a cache partition on the hard drive too while using the flash partitions.

None of LV2 apps have access to eFlash/VFLASH.

thank you very much guys, i will try get it and see if i like it.

when i typed in horror ps3 game, this one popped up.

yeah i have xbox 360 and ps3 but i have lent my xbox out so will use my ps3 instead for this game.

I'm usually not that into horror games, but one that I do like is resident evil 4. isn't that on the ps2? I remember playing it on the wii at least. it might've been ported to the switch. if it has been, I think I'll pick it up at some point.

edit: it looks like re4 has been on every system since the cube, including the switch and the ps4. I noticed that the switch also has 5 and 6, but I've never played either of those.

yeah resident evil 4 is very popular, both my brother in law used to be on it all the time.

you mentioned that last of us might heat up the ps3 alot, having second thoughts now as i really want to look after this ps3, i have changed the thermal paste and the temps(to me) are really good so i might just give it a go.

yeah, it and a couple other games are the recommended ones when it comes to judging how well your ps3 does under stress. it took me three game dumps to get a good copy of the last of us. something was wrong with all three of them, but I managed to merge the good files together (thanks to the ird). however, I haven't played the game much. I guess I'm a little paranoid about heat. I, like most people, are ambivalent when you hear the fan kick on high speed like: it's doing what it's supposed to, but could it be overheating? that's the irony with having access to a temp gauge.

i have managed to get a decent condition ps3 and last thing i want is to break it.

i will test it with the game when i get it, hopefully itl be fine.

I'm too used to the wii u and the switch. I can sometimes hear their fans, but it's not often (usually only when it's completely quiet). with how much power some of these machines have in them, I'm always a little apprehensive about the cooling system. the ps5's is supposed to be pretty good. in the q and a section of the system, sony claims the system runs cooler than the ps4, so I guess we'll have to wait to see.

Game can NEVER break a console. A stressful game to system may show you the weakness in system which is already there. The Temps of your PS3 you posted in other threads are just fine and you won't have any problem with running TLOU. Just keep the auto fan control at 70c. I would advice keeping minimum fan speed at 35%.

What happens is that in stressful games, the Temps are usually high in gameplay but they drop significantly during cut scenes. When Temps drop, your fan speed also drops. When cut scenes are over, the game play resumes & Temps can rise very rapidly in CELL & RSX. To compensate with sudden rise of Temps, the FAN speed will also rise. Some people don't like this fan noise of ramping up & down in console. So just keep your minimum fan speed at 35%.

By the way, TLOU is not the most stressful game on PS3. The most stressful games are GTA5 and Uncharted 3 in my opinion.

i am not really taht bothered about ps5 or ps4, i still have a new ps4 on 7.02 still boxed up ready for webkit.

i still really like ps3, so far the game i play is infamous.

thank you, i have set auto to 68 and minimum fan speed at 35.

i have got uncharted 2, have you played that and is it stressful like uncharted 3?

Uncharted 2 is not much stress on PS3.

By stressful games, its really about pushing up performance of CELL & its SPEs. Naughty Dogs had mastered the game development on CELL. This video explains how SPEs in CELL are utilized.

By Uncharted 3 & TLOU, Naughty Dogs have been pushing the limits of CELL by fully utilizing the SPEs. That's why CELL was so hot & pushed up the Temps.

Very bad manufacturing flaw of PS3 is that they built CELL by sealing it with that useless Silicon shit & average quality thermal paste under the IHS which eventually created problems after some years of usage. And thermal paste under IHS was extremely hard to replace.

yeah i nearly went and try to delid it but so many people have broke their ps3 because of it, i wont do it till its the last option.

Outside of the ps3 environment, that chip was developed to run at higher temps. The MAJOR issue they had was using nVidia graphics, because nvidia notoriously runs hotter (and usually faster) than radeon equivalents. The reason the Wii never had the graphics problem was because of their choice to use AMD(ATI at the time) technology for graphics. PS4/5 use AMD graphics (and an AMD CPU), which seem to run cooler and suffer less issues overall.

That being said, I used to LOVE nvidia after the 3dfx acquisition (which gave nvidia tons of insight on SLI). I still like them, when the cost/performance ratio is better, but generally i've had good success with amd/ati graphics cards over the years. :)

that's what I was thinking as well regarding the cell and higher temps. I think they were going to try running graphics off of it, and when they couldn't get it to work, they put in a cheap gpu that handles high temps like the 360 does, which is poorly. my phat 360 does run cooler than my slim ps3 btw by about 8-10C.

nVidia chips had problems in 90nm models of FAT PS3s. The last Gen of fat models & later slim & super slim models with RSX lithiography of 65nm and lower were not a problem.

CELL can tolerate high temps but cannot tolerate the failure of cooling system. When thermal paste under IHS fails significantly (it decays steadily with time & usage), it pushes CELL easily above 90c which CELL can't tolerate.

nVidia does have a history of shady graphics chips which has frustrated many Graphics card owners including me. Unfortunately there are only two options in GPU market Nvidia or AMD.

I'm really considering buying resident evil 4 on the switch. it's only $19.99. I might pick up 5 and 6. there's a three-pack, but I think it's retail only. how is 5 and 6? I think I remember a lot of hate for 5.
