[TUT] Using PS3 as a Net Server for another PS3 with Webman MOD

Following nice addition in webMan MOD by [MENTION=89]aldostools[/MENTION] and @m@tsum0to (believe me someday i learn how to correctly mention you :)) I decided to write this simple tut for multi PS3 users. What is this? With this tutorial you can learn how to share games from one PS3 to another just by using internet connection.

Requrements:

- Minimum two jailbroken PS3 consoles able to run custom plugins
- Webman MOD 1.43.19 or newer with full version installed (webftp_server_full.sprx) on server console
- Any Webman or Webman MOD (mmCM should also work) installed on client PS3
- Router (best results will be on LAN, wifi is crap on PS3)
- Basic knowledge about using netsrv (you can learn here: http://www.psx-place.com/forum/tutorials-and-guides/ps3-net-server-tutorial-1618.html#post11141)

Downloads:

- Webman MOD 1.43.19 (2015-12-06 ~09:00 AM): webMAN_MOD_1.43.19_Updater

StepsInstructions
1

  • Install the FULL version of webMAN MOD 1.43.19 (webftp_server_full.sprx) on the PS3 that will act as server. This version automatic start act like a server when you turn on PS3. On client PS3 i suggest to use different version (but not lite) unless you want to cross share both PS3.
2

  • Both consoles must be in the same network. This mean that need to be connected to one router (advanced configurations are probably also possible, but i can't test them) and port 38008 must be open in the firewall because server PS3 using that port.
3

  • Go to PS3 setting on client console and check your IP adress, You can obtain this adress also on /cpursx.ps3 in webman.
4

  • Go to /setup.ps3 (or go to webman setting in XMB) of the PS3 that will act as client and enter the IP address of the PS3 console that will act as PS3 server. Also put the check mark next to the field to enable the server.
5

  • On server PS3 use standard iso folders (ISO in parts are supported from webmanMOD 1.43.20). For now are supported: PS3ISO, PSXISO, BDISO, DVDISO. Unsupported: [strike]splited ISO[/strike], PS2ISO, PSPISO
6

  • Turn on both PS3s and on client PS3 use Refresh HTML or Refresh XML, select the game and mount the /net game as you normally do when using the PC as server. You can also use the file manager to mount the game. If you are using "Scan content at startup" You can just restart your PS3 to refresh game list on client PS3.
7

  • Start the game, play and enjoy it!

As you can see both PS3 need to be turned on, so is not solution for everyone. But still is useful for few people that using two or more PS3 in home. Also slim PS3 (45nm) idling in XMB is still less power usage that some computers so is kind of alternative for everyone with some old PCs.

More about PS3 server addition in webMan MOD:
Code:
The ps3netsvr service running on the PS3 has certain limitations:
- Only ISOs are supported (PS3ISO, PSXISO, BDISO, DVDISO). [strike]Support for multi-part ISOs will be added later.[/strike] Suport added in 1.43.20
- File copy is supported (e.g. videos, pkg, music, etc.)
- A maximum of 3 net clients are supported.
- Games in JB folders (GAMES or GAMEZ) are not supported, and I do not have plans to add virtual ISO.
- The games stored in different the devices are listed in merged folders (e.g. /net0/PS3ISO will list the files from /dev_hdd0, /dev_usb000, /dev_usb001, /dev_ms, etc.)
- NTFS devices are not supported.

Tutorial is based on [MENTION=89]aldostools[/MENTION] post: http://www.psx-place.com/forum/webman-mod/webman-mod-information-thread-27-post28922.html#post28922

NOTE: Remember that new PS3 server function is still in "testing/work in progress" state, that mean some functions can not work properly, can be buged, or even don't work at all. If something don't work for you, first double check that you have correct setup, and please don't report speed issues if you are using Wi-Fi connection, we know is slow and nothing can change this. If something will change i will add proper note or correction to tutorial if needed.

Thank you, but aldo is improving features so fast that i need to update some parts here when i get free time. BTW. I also updated: http://www.psx-place.com/forum/tutorials-and-guides/ps3-net-server-tutorial-1618.html#post11141 for use with mmCM and IRISMAN. But still is not what i want, but for now is all i can do (24 hours is totally too low value for one day.. Waiting for fix :p).

We need 36 hours days. :) I have been saying same thing for sometime now.. Its only slow when your at work. LOL .. any other time time goes by to fast.

As a user I just want to say, Aldo does good work Despite the undue crap he had to deal with from that other hax site. I for one appreciate everything aldo has done since then. And to be completely honest I was amazed to find A ps3 related site aldo was still a member of, I use Xp as my first choice OS and therefore I have ps3tools by aldo integrated into the os(who doesn't I wonder), I also use win 10 and I also have aldo's ps3tools inatalled on that to, If the guy never makes an update ever again, I will feel sad but I will never expect him to, but I will still feel sad believing aldo is out of the game Because some people expect to much from him...

I tried this yesterday with MULTIMAN. So I wanted to transfer my games from the old PS3 to the new PS3 that are on the internal disk. Both PS3 via LAN on the router. Both CFW 4.90 and the latest Multiman installed. I can access Multiman from one PS3 to the other PS3 using the file manager. I also see the folders and their contents. Only the games folder, which I wanted to copy from one PS3 to the other, is empty. Am I doing something wrong or doesn't this work?

So I don't want to load and play my games from one PS3 to the other PS3 via network, I just want to transfer files from one to the other. So this doesn't work?
What would then be the fastest way to transfer this from a PS3 (games are on the internal HDD) to a new PS3 (again on the internal HDD)?

If I recall correctly multiMAN lets copy the files using ps3netsrv protocol through it's File Manager.
Maybe the issue is that the destination folder needs to fix the read/write permission.

I haven't used that feature in over a decade, so I barely remember the steps.
Or maybe it stopped working at some point without being noticed, due it is not a commonly used feature.
