PS2 [Tutorial] FMCB Installation with Free DVD Boot

I am from Malaysia so i believe mine should be a model for Asia...i think
If you got a model ending with 06, it is for Asia.

Given our region, I think it's best for people to not assume, as I struggle to imagine most people from our region playing Japanese games with their local sets lol.
When I got my first PS2, it was the local set - an NTSC-J model. When I went to look for a used console (I wanted an expansion-bay model), I also saw an Oceania set (SCPH-39002) and a US (SCPH-39001) set. The local set I got was a modded console.

G is for Asia?

E: Europe
U: North America
J: Japan
In DVDVERA, I have 3.11G. So yes, it is for Asia.

I could make an installer with everything bundled inside. @sp193 do I have your permission to make that mod and post it?
Sorry, but I'm not sure what you're referring to. If you meant Free DVD Boot, I'm not even involved with that project. You should ask the folks behind it.
If you meant my FMCB Installer, that doesn't support the CD/DVD.

I mean your installer.
I know it does not support CDVD and it does NOT matter.
I am asking your permission to modify it.
I can bundle every required file INSIDE the ELF, so FMCB can be easily installable from any device.

Additional support for ability to boot installer from other devices might be good or bad idea...
Upside:
- Additional device to launch and install FMCB
- If someone have a "dead" USB ports nothing* else will work

Downside:
- what will happen if a PS2 will have a problem with reading disc?

Recently FreeDVDBoot was released and some people have a problem with this exploit.
These problems mostly are related with:
- quality of a disc
- writing speed, used burner (laptop or PC)
- condition of a laser in PS2
- sometimes modchip

Currently If you have a BSOD after launching FMCB installer through USB,
it means that USB device is not fully compatible.
The simplest solution is to try another one.
I never seen a report that someone have a problem with coping files through FMCB Installer with USB device.

If something will have a problem with disc, installation may stop e.g. at 50%,
because laser have a problem with reading this disc.
Of course file system on USB device maybe corrupted, but it can be fixed...

* - except of a way to fix them

The reason why I put them outside, is so that they can be replaced. Also because having everything embedded into the ELF will mean that every file becomes loaded into EE RAM. So if you have 32MB of files, will there be enough RAM? The CJK font itself was about 16MB or something, from what I remember.

It was deliberately designed to have no support for CD/DVD, since it seemed unlikely for people to use it. To even use this method, the user would need a modded console and/or some disc-based exploit. If the user has no USB disk - then how will homebrew be copied to the PS2 and run? From a recordable disc?
If everything will be run from CD/DVD and the memory card, it feels like we're back in 2003 (before we had the homebrew USB drivers).

It's great that you would like to help, but perhaps it is best to work on some other area, like to help improve USBHDFSD etc. Or LaunchELF, if you say that that the late versions have problems...

Currently If you have a BSOD after launching FMCB installer through USB,
it means that USB device is not fully compatible.

As long as it was booted from a USB disk, it will continuously attempt to access the disk.
Some devices cannot be initialized correctly after a warm reset (e.g. transition between 2 pieces of software). Unplugging and re-connecting the device may cause it to start working.

Just saying... Imagine this case scenario:
A guy haves a 790XX, he always played via discs as he haves no friend to ask for install him FMCB and also can't not buy a MC with FMCB online because of the country's limitations (Cuba by example). Using FDVDB was his solution, but then, after burning uLE he realizes his two USB ports are damaged. His only solution is to install them from disc. The installer could have everything ready like a noobie package, extra apps can be placed on the disc and they can be copied via uLE. Also @sp193, I will trim part of the font to only have the chars used in the translation so we can save some serious space. So, what do you think about it?

So it is as I was saying: without USB, how does homebrew work? Will you use your memory card for everything? If one wants to change the homebrew there, does this mean a new disc is burned?

But it is up to you. I will not stop you from doing what you want and the source code is there anyway.
If you want to make a new bundle, please start a new thread because I don't want to be bothered for an unrelated project.

OK, I will call it "Unofficial FMCB AIO Installer" and I think it will make clear that it is a separated project.

Does this person from example has got modchip?
If not, he\she will not have an ability to copy wanted homebrew.
From what I remember if someone will insert "burned" CD\DVD,
PS2 will not read it (RSOD\unable to play at wLe).

Workaround for that maybe patch that disc (DVD) with ESR Patcher.
I don't remember but probably only "esr_r.._mcard.elf" will allow to boot and manage that kind of a disc.

Unofficial FMCB AIO Installer with some versions* maybe also workaround...

* - e.g. V1 most wanted apps. Only MC will be limitation in that.

If he\she has got modchip... there is probably no point to install FMCB.

Also why not try to find a way to fix broken USB ports?

False. My updated uLE haves support to read DVD Video discs and it is bundled with FDVDB.

No need to, just edit the FDVDB ISO and done.

Also why not try to find a way to fix broken USB ports?
Because repair parts are not always available in every places and some people in some countries (like Cuba) can not import them easily.
Just keep thinking in the worst case scenario.

I wrote about "normally" burned CD\DVD disc, e.g. disc with only (ELFs) apps.
Not a prepared DVD-Video disc.
Later I add info about workaround.

No need to, just edit the FDVDB ISO and done.

That is a good solution\workaround.

I understand, but it may be e.g. blown fuse.
Without even look at it, it is impossible to tell.

BTW What about move post related to "Unofficial FMCB AIO Installer" elsewhere?

Alright so After doing what Coro has asked me to do i can confirm it DOES work for my console version (3.10G) which means anyone who has this console version can try it out but just make sure ur disk is new and easy to be read :encouragement::encouragement:
