is your USB stick FAT32 and in the far right USB port?

path /tmp/petitboot/mnt/sda1 is old use /var/petitboot/mnt/sda1
 
I tried this and I am stucked on create hdd region. I got this:

if I use this script, i can't load Live. Without it I can load, but i don't have any free space to give partitions.

Did you install the patched firmware i linked then use the Restore PS3 System option in safe mode? If not then that is most likely why it isn't working.

Bare in mind that the Restore PS3 System option is needed so that it allocates HDD space for OtherOS to go onto, plus this option also formats your HDD as well so be warned.
 
Can the current PS3 e.g. "home" directory (users, activations, etc), xregistry, etc be backed up and then restored ("rebuild database") after installing modified rebug .pup and successfully creating the otheros partition?

I would assume you'd be able to but i've never tired something like that so i wouldn't really know myself.
 
Is an otheros++ partition detected by rebug after a patched.PUP is installed and "restore system" format or is it only after a full setup (install patched.PUP, "restore system", toolbox processes, petitboot, etc) is completed?

If you already have a partition with OtherOS++ installed on it, then you don't need a patched PUP. The patched PUP is to make the partition to install OtherOS++, and nothing more.
 
guys any option to let red ribbon load automatic once i run the ps3 with out switch from tool box ?

When you boot into Linux via the Rebug Toolbox, if you just shut down the PS3 through Linux, it should automatically launch to Petitboot when you turn it back on.

Hello my friends, I'm new here, and was following the tutorial and successfully installed RedRibbon on my PS3 Slim CECH-2001B 250Gb with that patched Rebug 4.81.1 REX posted here.

Oddly I can't connect to ethernet, even from cable neither wifi. There's something I can do to turn my ethernet On? If cable works it will be enough for me.

Hey guys, I solved my problem.
If more people came here to bring this question, just know that you need to disconnect from Wifi on GameOS, so you connect manually to Cable. I'm wondering if something more I made adjusting on Rebug Toolbox... b'cuz I clicked and turned on some stuff like "add boot for PS2 games if using GameOS". But for now is just this.
 
I keep getting this warning when trying to install red ribbon onto my PS3. Automatic partition does not seem to work and the install fails... The error is: Warning: The resulting partition is not properly aligned for best performance. I can't seem to get the distro to install at all. Any one else have this problem?

I have a couple of questions to ask....:oops:

1) I am running, system firmware 4.81, LV2 Kernel CEX, COBRA 7.5 Can I safely follow this guide?
2) Will I have hardware acceleration with this method? (Will I be able to mine crypto for example with the built in graphics card?)
3) Can I install red ribbon on an external hardrive, to save some fuss? How will this guide be modified then?
4) I have trouble understanding what OtherOS , GameOS etc means. What is the Boot OtherOS option in my rebug toolbox going to do?
5) What package manager is RedRibbon using?

I keep getting stuck with the update, I have tried different version several times, keep getting error message, the data is corrupted. Any help much appreciated, hope the thread isn't dea, would love to finally get Linux running on a ps3
